. Visually, this is the best video in the CTA collection. Aurally it is seriusly diminished by the whistle from the slipstram of the train. It sounds exactly like a tea kettle throughout the video. . I presently have this muted on loop. I hope a new, improved nighttime Brown Line video can be done soon. It is great to run at my desk while I am working and to spend time with just loosening up the mind.
Enjoy your trip. and yes its easy from Ohare just go to the subway terminal under the airport and within 35-45 minutes there will be several subway stops downtown in the Loop to get off of
I miss sitting in the very back seat on the brown line after school and watching everything go by. As a adult, I use some of the videos as background noise for sleeping!
Wow Chicago is beautiful you guys have some of the best views from the operators cab I’m a train operator from septa I was on the el from 2000 till 04 before transferring to the orange line I wish we had views like this when I was on the el
I just love these videos that the CTA has produced ... I rode the 'L' several years ago when visiting Chicago x 2 ... and really enjoyed riding ... one really gets a picturesque view of Chicago on these trips. Thanks for sharing them so other railfans can view them. Riding around the loop was really cool and I've enjoyed other people's videos of trains passing Tower 18.
easy solution : turn off sound and open another youtube browser and find a video music/ sounds you prefer. Heck I do it a lot if i don't care for the music on some travel videos

Было бы интересно у них узнать, что это за конструкции по бокам после станции Армитаж - может для дополнительных путей? ) Сам бы спросил, но мой английский оставляет желать лучшего )
@@bxpete19 This is after rush hour, the only time of day when the Brown Line runs 8 car trains, which the platforms are built for. The rest of the time, ridership warrants only 4 car trains
At first the whistling was a little obnoxious, but once I got used to it and understood it was from the design of the front door I learned to live with it.
The engineer needs to close his window to stop the whistling, and get a camera with NIGHT VISION. Does the CTA still run all night? It’s truly amazing how they build structures like this, truly amazing.
The operator keeps the window open for ventilation, also it’s not the windows lol, the cars are old and the HVAC is a little messed up on the 3200 series cars and it’s the doors that create those whistles.
One of the more interesting things about Chicago is that have a California Avenue, a Sacramento Avenue, but a Francisco, rather than a SAN Francisco Avenue :)
@@PRHILL9696 On the fast speed video of this, its mix music. The only thing better would be to have Farley Jack Master Funk or White Boy Mike, Bad Boy Bill, Julian Jumping Perez, etc. Have them do the mixes for the videos. That would make it classic Chitown! Have a great weekend bro!
Disturbing sound: A not totally closed side window in the driver's cabin. Proof: At 12:34 you hear the impact of a second train (kind of a mild "shock wave" --> sudden change of the whistling sound). AND at downtown extended regions with no sound (wind shadow of large buildings).
20:58-Wow, an information screen _that actually displays information about trains coming and going_ instead of ads! TTC (Toronto Transit Commission), take note!
Washington--Wabash. Its new...they tore down 2 stations (Randolph-Wabash and Madison-Wabash), to consolidate into this one station, making those with bad hips walk an extra block. But aesthetically, it at least shows, the CTA architects have a sense of humor. like passengers being swallowed up by a giant clam.
I'm trying to get over the fact that the CTA motorman doesn't have his or her front cab headlights on during this time of day 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 ? Great Video although
Dear CTA media relations department. When recording these videos it'd be nice to check the videos before you release them so that there aren't any obstructive sounds that may prohibit the viewer from enjoying the train ride and train sounds. Also if you guys could start putting the series number of that header car in the description so us rail fanners will know what type of train is being used in the video. Thanks
CTA Connections' videos of the brown line are really jinxed. The first one, about 2015, was plagued by trackwork slowdowns (between every stop south of Addison/Lincoln)....this one, by the annoying "whistling"...and the latest one, 2021 in a winter storm, has the windshield (with no wiper) clouded up the the sleet. May as well forget it.....No technology can overcome its scars.....shamed before God and Men.
Thank you for the video. It would be informative to list "Chicago Transit Authority" at the beginning of the video so persons not familiar with CTA know these trains are around Chicago Illinois.
Chicago is lovely at night with its city lights, you know. However, what was that whistle blowing? It sounded like a pressure cooker as the train kept moving. Must be wearing down, the train. All these trips it has taken, it is bound to break down sometime. It is in dire need of repair it seems.
Either a window is open or the end door is loose allowing air to breeze past. I also heard that the camera may be outside the train, but I can't confirm that.
The night view is the best, wish all the lines had a night version. Unfortunately, the wind whistling or whatever is a deal breaker... Just too annoying, although I suppose I can watch with the sound off. Maybe a redo with the window cranked all the way up? 🙉
Drew Steitz Cameras are outside the train. The time lapse videos however have music. If you’re still looking for a real time video at night without the wind, the Blue Line to O’Hare and Green Line to Ashland/63rd & Cottage Grove were filmed early morning.
Unfortunately the whistle is caused by the aerodynamics of the train itself, and is not something that the operator can do anything about. I imagine it must be quite annoying for them. Although they do seem to be fixing the problem with the refurbished cars as I'm hearing the whistle less now than I used to.
Camera and mic mounted outside? Is that the wind noise? Turn off the sound to enjoy a view of Chicago at night. To those commenting on the few people on the platform on the inbound leg of this circle trip, it's evening on a warm night at 8PM and few people are commuting inbound at that time. Now if you watch after the train goes around the downtown "Loop" and starts its return journey (43:36 in the video) there are some "outbound" commuters from the CBD to the northern areas of the City and suburbs. The outbound portion of the video happens around 8:45 PM, after the evening rush is over.
А что за конструкции после станции Армитаж по бокам? Для дополнительных путей? И почему так много снесённых станций? Вроде, в отличии от многих станций на зелёной линии, снесённые на коричневой располагались в достаточно населённых местах.
I love this trip at night, but the whistling is awful. I hope this can either be remade or someone with some audio expertise can either eliminate or at least significantly tone down the whistling.
There is one long stretch which contains the locations of a number of demolished stations and only one existing one. I would wonder why those neighborhoods are not being served by the system. The city at night is a special view! But perhaps you could try a new video without the whistle.
HALLO.....!!!!!! VERY BEAUTIFUL......!!!!!! I,,M MOTION.......!!!!! I,,M GOING.....!!!! I,,M RIDE....!!!! I,,M GO...!!! COOL TRAIN....!!! I,,M IN CAB...!!! WITH A BREEZE........
you can take CTA to cubs games think white sox also and I know there is a metra stop for sox park AKA guaranteed rate field make sure you bring protection around the sox games area isn't the greatest
Did this train have no headlights or something? The rail bed between stations should not be completely dark and invisible when a train is about to pass over it. Oh I see... the headlights are simply trained unusually high. Well... what's the point of that??
The 2400, 2600 and 3200 series L's all had this situation due to front door design. There is a one foot strip of safety rubber near the handle that was installed to minimize the damage one would endure to their fingers if that door slammed shut on them while walking between cars. The sound is caused by the wind passing thru the rubber and the door jamb, it has nothing to do with buildings!
@@QuarioQuario54321 Yes, the 5000 series trains are not made with the foot long safety strip and the doors are more rounded off at the top of the door and are not sharp 90 degree angles like the previous series. There is a very good CTA website made by an insider "chicago-l (dot) org" with plenty of photos and you can see the design difference in some side by side pictures.
I'm sorry but I stopped watching after the first stop because that screechy whistling noise, that sounded like it was coming from an opened window or something, was driving me crazy!!!!😬😵💫😬😵💫😬😵💫 Sounded like someone scraping their nails on a chalkboard.
This video should have been made during the day and not at night. The view would have been better and clearer than the night view seen here in this video.
