Fuld says that he did not locate a copy of Hermann piece. The 'official' publication date of the piece (1879 ) is just an allegation of an internet site created in 2006 to give access to amateurs to partitions and musical scores. Fuld reports that a Russian musicologist told him that song was first published by an S. Gerdel as arranger in 1884, but it seems this partition is also lost. Who is this S. Gerdel is a mystery. By the way, Florian Hermann is also a kind of a mystery. Almost nothing is known about his life, not even the exact date of birth. Sources neither agree on his nationality. The oldest transcription of the song is from 1897, some years after Sindo Garay claimed to have composed it, at the beginnings of 1890's. The song began indeed to be popular around 1910. It had been claimed that it was anonymous.
