John Deere is supposed to be really reliable. I can not say the same for my Cub Cadet GT1554 made by MTD. I have a John Deere that must be 10 years older and more hours (both have hour meters) and still the John Deere runs flawlessly by comparison. The John Deere has a 17 HP single cylinder engine and the Cub Cadet has a Kohler 27 HP twin cylinder but needs work. The twin cylinder runs more smoothly of course when it is working. All other parts on the tractor still work. The thing has 860 hours on it. I just replaced the mower deck belt too. I don't want to put any more money into the Cub Cadet. The John Deere has 1300 hours and still runs fine. It seems like it will last quite a long time still. John Deere uses Kawasaki engines. My Cub Cadet has the Kohler Courage engine which I hear is junk. My neighbor runs a lawn care business and his stand on mowers have Kohler Command engines and he is not happy with them either. The Command line is supposed to be Kohler's commercial quality engine and they are junk too it seems. I guess I should avoid Kohler like the plague and MTD just the same.
No really, the John Deere is a real yard tractor built by John Deere back in the day, the Cub Cadet is a cheap MTD made machine not half the machine as the Deere. I have a 1973 Cub Cadet built by International and it would compare to the John Deere!
I have the JD 110. It’s built like a tank. I totally rebuilt it, when I lifted the rear axle to put it on the bench it took me 3 tries to lift it 28” off the ground. The cast iron rear end is bullet proof. Also it didn’t push well, so I drained the molasses’s out of the rear end and flushed it with varsol then added the proper weight oil. It now pushes easily. I don’t think it was ever changed since 1973 the year it was made. Each bolt cracked loose and turned out by hand, better steel than the garbage we receive from China..!!!
I know what you mean, I have a 1973 Cub Cadet 149 built like a army tank. I had to put a new tiller belt on it the other day and I had to take off the hood and grill to do it, the grill alone weighed 20lbs made out of cast-iron.
Those early 3000 don't have much for lugging ability. My Original Cub Cadet will pull my thresher, on steel, down the flat gravel driveway. My 3225 won't move it to begin with.
Ralulles2013 yeah its an old tractor.. its a 74. & my buddie probaly weighed like 150 i was about 220. so i guess it really wasnt even.. still had fun though lol
An apples to oranges comparison. A GARDEN tractor which probably has a locking rear axle against a 150 lb lighter lawn tractor. Hopefully neither one of these guys votes or has kids,
I know the video was for fun and not for educational purposes. If it were, both machines would need to be hydros, and have same weight on both of them to make it fair as well as same tires. People do need to chill out though, this was just for shits and giggles.
Not really a fair pull. The JD probably has about a 200lb advantage over the newer cub. You put a real cub... I'm talkin' a International Harvester cub cadet, not a MTD throw away cub, up against That JD 110 and it'll pull it to next week lol. Hell... even my IH 70 out pulled my JD 112. Not saying the JD isn't a good tractor but my 112 crapped out but my 70 is still going strong lol I love my cubs but I wouldn't take a new one if I was paid! Belt driven, stamped steel crap!..... good clean fun you guys are having tho, n that's what matters most.
Those old john Deere are true work horses and are very heavy they would kick any cub cadet or other garden tractors as excluding the x500 and x700 series by JD just in weight.
