Thank you so much, our cub cadet was one year old, would not turn over, charge battery still nothing, thought it was going to be the solenoid, but once we disconnected the lights like you suggested it turn right over, how crazy. We live in a village and the code officer was itching to give us a ticket. ( Our grass can't be over 4 inches) Hubby is mowing the lawn now. Thank you once again.
@@d.e.m.p.s.e.y Thanks to your video, I found the same headlight wiring issue with my 2016 Cub Cadet XT2 today. This has been a problem for 2 years. THANK YOU!!
Thanks for video and comment. Have a 2015 XT1 and have occasionally had issues starting. Replaced the battery last year and ignition switch this winter ( thought it might be hogged out). Was going to change the oil today after not starting it for a month. Wouldnt turn over. Was thinking maybe a solenoid issue and came upon this video. Saw this comment and decided to unplug headlights. Turned over and started on first try after disconnecting.
Cub was running and just plain would not restart. No clicking, no power to the meter. Spent 2 days continuity testing solenoid with battery, and all 3 other safety switches (PTO, BRAKE AND SEAT). Disabled seat switch but removing the electrical bus in the connector. All other switches and solenoid tested AOK! Replaced ignition because old one was pretty worn out. Junk plastic anyway. STILL NOTHING. NO POWER. CHECKED GROUND AOK. Then I heard your great tip about the headlights. Could it be that simple? Just went outside and disconnected them. BAMB! Power restored and started right up! Thank you!!! Although a frustrating experience, you saved me a trip to the repair shop! And I learned a lot about removing and testing these safety switches. Great job! Thanks again.
@@d.e.m.p.s.e.y Yes amazing! Even the dealer never mentioned it. Wait till I see him! Lol! Note: Headlight wires look ok at first glance. Likely the LED circuit board seen on the back of the lights are shorted out.
EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID. I have the XT1, but same problem getting to the solenoid. That engineer should be let go. That could have been put ANYWHERE and wires taken to it. I cant reach it. I saw on youtube using jumper cables and touch the starter. I DOOD IT, and thats what itll be! Temps above 90, heat index 103-113, nope nope. And again right on that battery. I use that metal strap, hook to a battery plug, and UP IT COMES. I rule oit the starter since it runs when cranked, and sets so i can back up. F ON SOLENOID CUB CADET. And right in proprietary stuff. Lowes sells the machine, ought to stock the odd parts. Good review, i would have liked seeing how you actually got that solenoid and wires off. I did a quick squirt of electric cleaner once and got it to key start, that was my only time though. Thanks.
I have worked a variety of jobs over the years. Everything from construction to factories. In my experience it was obvious that engineers gave no thought to maintenance and repair of their designs. They should have to work for 6 months in factory engineering depts or equipment repair sops before they get their licence. I know at least one factory where a line had to be shut down for a whole day every six months while they changed a filter.
My XT2 must be newer. The battery was dated March 2020, so when it wouldn't start I assumed the battery was dead. The solenoid is different (bigger and more metal) and is bolted to the engine close to the starter, a much better location. I have ordered one for ~$56 and will install it this week (Nov. 22, 2023).
I have a XT2 like yours that is 2 years old. I have a issue where it just clicks and will not start. It sat at the dealer for 6 weeks and when he finally looked at it he said it was fine. I replaced the battery because it sounded weak but now it is nothing so I have ordered a solenoid. I kinda wish I had just bought a big box store model instead of spending so much and still having issues
I'm trying to replace same selenoid. Took the old one out and wasn't easy to see how the two small wires were oriented. Red right - green left or red left - green right. Or does it matter?
Before I fixed the solenoid the fuse under the seat would blow every time, it ended up being a combination of a short in the front lights and the solenoid being bad.
Yep, just wrote that solenoid comment "Underneath the battery" for another video. I pushed out the wiring harness retainers and finally got the solenoid out of my XT-1. I was certain the issue was the solenoid BUT it tests out perfect (Unless it is playing possum on me). I hope it's not the key switch because its location is not easy to reach either--impossible yes!!! I cannot see other reasons for faulty starting but I will have to check them all. Yeah, the battery retainer is a POS.
Yeah I'm not happy with my new xt2 either. After cutting I back down on the fuel, dis engage the blades, lift the deck, then turn the key to off, but it shakes & sputters for about 8 ta 10 seconds like it doesn't want to shut off then finally it shuts off. The dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It happens every dam time so I'm not happy with mine.
I agree with you about the design of the CC. Worst and most inconvenient EVER. Is there a way for me to by-pass the ridiculous safety lock outs. I can't find anything on y/tube about how to do that. For now, I have to start with my deck engaged but that's not the worst of it. I have to play with the engaging lever till I find a sweet spot for it to even start. Takes up to 5 minutes and I better hit it then. Is it possible it is my solenoid? and, how can I by-pass all this Ralph Nader inspired crap? Thanks and Thanks for your video.Saw a guy selling a XT1 on marketplace for 200$ with 54 hours on it because it wouldn't go forward all the time. I told him about the grass build up issue under the pedal. I should have bought it but I'm so disgusted wit CC, I wouldn't pull the trigger. Thanks again!
I'm glad the video was helpful! I know there are videos of how to bypass the seat safety mechanism but I don't post anything on that because I don't want anyone to get hurt. Honestly disconnecting the lighting harness seems to solve the problem for a lot of people regarding the fuse blowing out. Solenoid was easy to replace once I found where the heck it was, it's just in a really tough spot but it's not an expensive part so I would just replace it and hopefully that solves at least part of the problem for you. Good luck 🤞💪💪
@@d.e.m.p.s.e.y I'm so done with all these "safety" features. I've already by-passed the seat but maybe the solenoid will finish me up with all this stuff. I grew up in the 60s and saw all these "features" being forced on us. I can't find any videos on bypassing more than the seat on a CC. Not many on the CC at all...
@@MrRainbowrooster I totally hear ya! I bet it's a solenoid, the Oregon generic was 10 bucks for me and worked no problem so hopefully that's the quick fix!
Yeah... 80 bucks for the solenoid for my cub cadet .. everything else is like 10-15 lol. Mines fairly new as well.. i wouldn't be surprised if they sell these things with faulty parts like that out of greed to make huge profits on absurd markups on their replacement parts. Likely won't be buying a cub cadet the next time around.
Man that was a lot of crying 😂🤣 bro put that s*** in there how YOU want it, it doesn’t have to be in there like they have it. I’m jk with the crying joke, good video thanks for taking the time to make it.
While I found your video informative in finding where in the F that solonoid is, as i was having a similar issue yet the point of interest overlooked .........a new starter, new solenoid and alot of aggravation , yet the no start issue was a result of a corrosion buildup on the ground just under that battery.. What an absolute SOB ball-breaking bullshit situation!!!
I would get a high quality heavy duty metal body Cole Hersee solenoid its better than these Trombetta solenoids. I had one burn out, the second one go out and the cole hersee is a charm. They are on Amazon or Ebay get a 200 Amp continous duty cole hersee solenoid the best out there.
Yes, I love my XT-1. It is now starting season 7. The zerks on the wheels fell off but oh well !!! I am tempted to buy the seat optional arm rests but...
