I appreciate that you don't spend half your time having to um .... and ah....., or look things up in the rulebook. You make it easier to understand by being straightforward.
@@OneStopCoopShop Guess it depends on which theme appeals to you. Being from the UK, I was always going to get Pendragon but I have all the current P500 COIN games on order. Still think Cuba Libre is the easiest and best entry to the series.
Just started playing Cuba Libre on TTS and your video has been a great help. Realy like the flow charts for the non player turns. There none on the TTS games I can find. Didi they come in the box set, or did you get them somewhere else?
My 2nd time watching this through. Never heard of COIN games until a month ago, now I am obsessed with this one and looking for my next level, which will probably be People Power or Andean Abyss if I can find a copy. Great video! First time watching couldn't make sense of how the bots worked, but now after several solo games under my belt I can follow pretty well. One question: as I understand it at the beginning of the Propaganda! round at the step "Victory?" when one player has met their victory conditions, I don't think it means that player has won the game, but just that the game ends after the last Support: step "Game End?" If that player maintains their lead at that point then they do win, although another player may have also reached their victory conditions during the "Support:" phase of the "Propaganda!" round. I don't think it would have made a difference here much a difference here. Is that the way you see it now or am I wrong?
Great playthrough - very helpful. One question. I'm still very much learning the game, but couldn't 26J put a base in Santiago de Cuba at 16:15 as well? Should you have done an equal chance roll between that city and Sierra Maestra?
One Stop Co-op Shop I have “fire on the lake” and “distant plain” , the flow charts for solo play are so difficult to get your head around and there are no good educational videos on the net for solo play of either of these two.
@Dr. D of Astrology Liberty or Death was my second COIN after Andean Abyss (the first one and still a good pick to start the series). I love the American Revolution and I have a blast with that game. I just know I need to free up a full afternoon to play one game.
@Dr. D of Astrology In wargames, "too long" is never what will prevent me from playing a game, if I have fun. We talk about simulating years of war, it takes time. Actually, this is why I love wargames :)
@@jasonwebber heck yes! Congrats :) And don't worry too much about the AI. Make your best effort to play them right, and you'll be fine. That's the best any of us can do with a heavy game like this.
The flow charts ARE sometimes overwhelming, though the more you play the simpler it gets. I discuss this in the review tomorrow. And yes, agreeing with @mrsamtheman80 below, reading the history details in the rules and then playing the events, it all felt thematic.
@@OneStopCoopShop Freedom: The Underground Railroad is the most historically rich game I've enjoyed. I can see that the flow charts get easier from repeated plays, but the barrier to entry is high.
I want to play that one at some point, especially with the new solo bot, but haven't had the chance. But I do have a play of Pendragon on the channel if you want more COIN.
Mike, I love the games you do. They are so refreshing, but damn it man, you need to talk to colin on what mic he uses. You sound like your playing with the mic in the other room. Sorry, if mean, just want to get max enjoyment from your vids
I appreciate the feedback, but can you explain what you mean? I don't generally get complaints about the sound quality. "Playing with the mic in the other room?" Do you mean reverb? Ambient noise? Just trying to figure out what I can try to fix :)
@@OneStopCoopShop sure thing! I more or less saying you sound distant. Like you are speaking far away from the mic. I guess, listen to Colin's playthroughs. He sounds like he is in your ear. Very loud, clear, and concise, almost like he is doing voice over post video. What kind of mic are you using for your video? What post-processing program? Are you using an independent mixer at all?
@@bryannothem1505 Good feedback. I think for a first step, I'm going to try to upgrade to a headset microphone instead of the lav I'm using currently. The lav keeps it a bit too far away, and also has the issue of modulating levels as I move my head in different directions. We will see how it goes! Certainly won't change the next few videos while I wait for delivery :)
@@OneStopCoopShop Up to you! I think a headset would work great and allow you to hear how you sound in real time as well. A good mixer can help even out levels on the fly. Let me know if you need any help or looking for good brands to use. Love the videos otherwise, lighting is great, rules are clear, and the gameplay is engaging. Keep up the good work!
@@bryannothem1505 if you get a minute, can you check my new video today (Kilforth review) and let me know your thoughts on the sound. I didn't get to order a new mic yet, but I did adjust some settings, placement, etc.
It’s a lot to jump into! What worked for me was to play a few turns controlling all 4 factions, to get a sense for how they worked. Then I did solo play, and it made a bit more sense :)
@@OneStopCoopShop it seems overly complicated with a somewhat dry theme, and just doesn’t look like much fun. I can’t imagine anybody in my game group enjoying this, and there are lots of solo games I enjoy. I don’t think this would survive in my collection.
Sounds about right :) I enjoy other games in the COIN series more, but I also think only certain gamers are going to want to play big wargames with lots of tokens and chits and lots of AI management like this.
I think it's great. As someone with mild brain onset dementia the COIN series has really helped my brain health. Learning games like this are incredible for your brain especially if you are playing the physical versions as opposed to Vassil etc.
@@BadAssBradders I’d just say that there are lots of challenging games out there that are a blast to play, solo or multi-player. This doesn’t look like one of them to me.
