Yoel and Mari react to Bass Pro Shop (Cabela's) seeing guns for the first time and massive amounts of hunting gear. In Cuba, guns are not allowed and hunting just isnt a thing. He is shocked and amazed by the fishing gear, the boats, and everything else.

Not gonna lie, that's still the reaction I get when going into BPS for the millionth time lol. But in all seriousness, I'll never forget when a member of my family (in his late 60's) was able to visit from Cuba. As I was showing him around my house, his entire demeanor changed when I showed him my gun collection. I cleared my AR-15 and put it in his hands. He spoke slower, in a more serious tone, like he was reliving the horrors of his past on the island. Then he uttered a simple but powerful line: "Lo que nosotros hicieramos en Cuba con esto"/"The things we'd do with this in Cuba." He need not say more, I knew exactly what he was talking about. Thank you Yoel and Mari for sharing your story, the Cuban-American story, and for helping Americans realize that many of the things that get taken for granted in this, the greatest country on Earth, are not even possible in other parts of the world. God Bless the USA. God Bless Cuba. Patria y Vida.

One thing I saw was that he didn't fear firearms, but he did respect them. That is what would make him a good firearm owner. Taking him to a gun range would make an awesome video, in my opinion. As a side note, after taking safety classes, start them (yes, both of them) out on a BB gun, to learn trigger discipline and aiming. Then, a .22LR rifle, to get used to a little recoil and the report. Then, if they seem comfortable, an AR. Then, a 9mm handgun. If they want to try something bigger after that, it's up to them. I have a feeling that Yoel, especially, will be all the more appreciative of America.

The only way we can have the same mindset as Yoel reactions is to live in Cuba or a 3rd world country for a month. Or put ourselves in a situation where resources are limited giving us no other option but to deal with it. I use to hate shopping at Wal-mart because the quality items (except food) wasn't up to par but after working in Guam. My perspective living in the US has changed for good and I love Wal-mart once again! Although Guam is NOT 3rd world being a US territory, they lack materials such as tools, clothing, and food. Items were expensive. They have 1 K-mart, 1 Homedepot but no Wal-mart. That's it. Finding tools to do the job right was a pain in the a$$. You had to improvise most of the time making your job difficult, longer, and quality was poor. Put it this way - Wal-mart had more supplies than Homedepot. Just to give you an idea of the situation. Phone service...I don't even want to into that but it sucked. Living conditions was definitelty outdated. And dogs can roam free. The locals don't chain their dogs so good luck taking your morning jog, do bike instead. Guam almost felt like a 3rd world in some ways. When I got back home, the first thing I did I took a drive to Wal-mart. Soon as I stepped into the entrance and looked around I instantly felt what I have taking advantage for a long time living in the US - *I'm priviledge.* All the negative opinions about living here flushed out of my system. I felt half of what Yoel reaction was and it's truly a humble experience. Now I didn't kiss/hug the floor at Wal-mart, but I'm sure I would have if I actually lived/work in Cuba. Life must have been rough for those guys and I feel for them...

@@Lex-Rex That's not the same as going to walmart and paying $6 for a fishing license. Try to use the miniscule amount of brain cells you have to rationalize that. As a fellow Cuban I can fully understand the sensory overload Yoel is experiencing seeing stuff that all of us here in the USA take for granted. From imagining what guns look like or what fishing poles feel like, to actually being able to see them first hand and touching them, that was a surreal experience for Yoel. That said, the most real part for him was sitting on the boat and thinking of all the fellow Cubans who have made it to the US and the ones who fell along the way. What always strikes in these "first time" videos is Joel's transition from awe, to happiness... and ultimately sadness, because he's thinking of his family, friends and countrymen back home. Just the idea of not being able to purchase a fishing rod of all things is an alien concept to me. Just think how one simple tool can help to feed a family. I'm sure that's exactly what Joel is thinking... instead of waiting in a government line for food, you can catch food yourself.

I love how in every video Yoel talks about what freedom is. Back in the day when I was 19 I almost married a Cuban woman and so I got to know her family very well, unfortunately her father passed before she and I met. I know her mother wasn't thrilled we were dating and her two HUGE older brothers probably weren't too excited about it either I'm a blue eyed blonde haired gringo and I cant speak or understand a word of Spanish (well, maybe a couple of words). I'm sure they envisioned her with a Cuban man and they probably only tolerated me because we made each-other so happy. But even still, they were always very friendly and welcoming to me. Her family had a good sized ranch and they were always throwing parties. When we began dating she invited me to come and she introduced me to her extended family and friends. It was amazing and I'm not a real party/social kind of guy but those people know how to have fun and, it was so interesting to see such a different culture and try the different foods etc. During the party I noticed her older brother arguing with some of the family members about something. Later when we were kind of off to the side, I asked my girlfriend what he was so upset about and she said he was angry that the other family members were not speaking English while I was there. Apparently before I arrived he requested everyone speak English so I wouldn't feel uncomfortable not being able to understand anyone. I spoke with him later and told him how much I appreciated the gesture but I really liked hearing their language and having my girlfriend translate. Now remember, I'm in their home, at their family event and honestly they probably didn't even like me but their little sister did and that was good enough for them. I just tell this story because when I watch these videos and I hear his Spanish accent it reminds me of her, and her family and how amazingly genuine and conscientious these people are.

My oldest son has been teaching my beautiful granddaughters about gun safety.. and they’re pretty darn good shooting their targets. Both girls love it! Oh! 3 and 5. My son was taught young and he’s passed his tradition to his babies! The younger they are, the better they learn! There’s no such thing as a play gun in our lives. It’s a responsibility that is strictly enforced. Have fun learning! Always be safe!! Also if you’re in Nebraska. We have lots of gun-shops. and 1 Cabelas where I’m at and one in Sidney.. they’re awesome too. I think bass pro shops bought Cabelas out..

In reading the comments, it is so heart warming to see how many people have the same reaction as I did watching this video: seeing a man who has lacked freedom and prosperity come in to a store in the USA and be so amazed. We cry for those less fortunate and we are thankful for the bounty we are blessed with. We wish everyone across the world to have such freedom and opportunities. One of my professors in college recounted the reactions of several people from poverty stricken countries upon entering one of our grocery stores when they first arrived in America: they thought that much of the produce must surely be wax just for display. A friend from China told me how she made herself sick on cake, fruits, etc when she first came here. She was from a poor area and such things were expensive there. Even in this covid pandemic, we still have plentiful amounts of food in all our stores. There are more empty spaces than we are used to seeing, but there's still enormous amounts of food. Friends, we are blessed. Let's pray for those less fortunate. ❤️

Absolutely love this. His expression and his honesty and the fact that he shared stories in relation to what he's seen. He truly appreciates the new experience and it shows. I'm from the Midwest so I take these trips all the time, but seeing his expression really makes me feel like a take things like this for granted. Great video 👍

Yoel, el cazador de caza mayor. You bad man, you made me cry talking about the Cubans who lost their lives trying to cross from Cuba to Florida. I am a man and you made my eyes cry tears.

I'm Dutch. Former police officer, former army officer, former sport shooter and survival instructor since 1986. Sure we have outdoor shops here that are pretty big but nothing like Cabela's. The variation, the size, the decorations, etc. We don't have the gun section since that's illegal in my country but the staff was very nice and I did get to feel a lot of guns even though they knew I'm Dutch so I could not buy one. But could take pictures even with a Tommy gun. The staff is so nice there. Drop me off in the morning and pick me up in the evening and I'll have a wonderful day at Cabela's. Big shout out. I can only imagine coming from a country where there is none of this all how impressive this must be.

I am just sitting here crying. This man is experiencing freedom. And yes, the benefits of capitalism. Why am i crying? Because so many fools in our country want to throw it all away. For what? To be like Cuba? It's sickening. I bet this man will have no problem saying the pledge of allegiance, or singing the national anthem. Bass Pro Shop is just one store. But it isn't about corporate greed. It's about Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That is America. Let's try to keep it, yes?

I hear you. It's no wonder they don't treat illegal immigrants the same when it comes to Cubans because they know they will vote the socialists out. It's sad what has been allowed to happen to our country.

Blindly pledging to something, especially something that is currently so corrupt, seems too much like something that would happen in North Korea. Not to mention the pledge was written by a socialist.

I agree to some extent. But understand that sometimes people fearmonger or call leftists and socialists to folks who just want to fix some issues in the USA. I mean, for sure I am against socialism and definitely I am pro capitalism, but I do not like corporate welfare, where government is always bailing big corporations, and I also believe that having a larger than normal wealth gap is not a positive thing either. Most people tergiverse things and make it sound like some people in the Democratic Party want to get rid of Capitalism altogether, which is not intellectually honest, as that will NEVER happen in USA! well... at least that's my opinion, but I understand the point "better to be safe than sorry" and everyone is free to vote for whoever they want.

I'm sooo very happy that you made this video. Too often we are spoiled and ungrateful for what we have. By bringing Yoel into these places for the first time and seeing his reaction is priceless!! The best part is in the boat when he talk about capitalism. Our young do not know the huge suffering and loss the people in socialist countries have to endure. Thank you both and God bless you!!!

As someone that frequents these stores it was very insightful to see that other perspective of someone who really doesn't seem like he's seen a gun in real life outside of the military holding them. And the way he talks about fishing being illegal, I cannot imagine one of the things I enjoy to do most being illegal. I like the taking him to a gun range idea, but I think an even better video would be to take him fishing on the ocean. I know youre in AZ but the Gulf and TX isn't too far away.
