Another way for the 1001 pieces problem could be that we approximate 1001 as 1000 and assume it to be 10*10*10 by that logic a number greater that 27 cuts and 28 cuts is the closest.

Same for 504 pieces? As 8×8×8=512 ; 21 cuts And 8×8×7=488 comes out 20 cuts So adding one more cut we can approximate 21 cuts

In 1 Dimension, when we are cutting then if we cut across both diagonals and one in centre gives us 6 pieces.

@@aur_karo_mba Usually in the questions it given that a larger cube is cut into smaller cubes or that the cuts are made parallel to the faces of the cube (at least in all the questions that I've come across). In both these cases diagonal cuts can't be made.

if we cut x in one D , then x+1 pieces , to optimise we do x/3 cuts each in all dimensions and get (x/3+1)(x/3+1)(x/3+1) pieces

If I didn't knew that 1001 is the multiplication of 3 consequitive prime numbers then how would I be able to find the terms possible

1001 is of form 6k-1, so to confirm if its not prime, take sqrt(1001), approx 30, try dividing 1001 with prime numbers below 30, 1,3,5,7: 7 you will get one, then try to factorise, you will get 143=11*13. keep doing small exercises while solving question, this is the beauty of maths.

27 identical cubes are arranged to form a large cube. How many such cubes are required to completely cover the large cube so that the figure obtained is also a cube? Can anybody please solve this question? The answer to this is 98. But what is the method?

Rashi Bhatnaga see, the new cube formed will have dimensions as 5x5x5 , total 125 cubes. inside it we have 27 cubes. difference would be 125-27=98

Hi sir, in example 2 where 6 cuts are shown. I could have also taken (3+2+1) which would give 24 pieces. Why (2+2+2) is taken into consideration?

@@utsachatterjee no we ain't taking closest numbers to each other. Emphasise on the point that we need to make maximum number of pieces from a given number of cuts. And thus, 2+2+2 will give 27 pieces. Otherwise, it can be cut in various ways. Hope you got the point .

For making fifteen cuts sir did 5+5+5 cuts =(6*6*6)=216 cuts. Can we also do this as (3+3+3+3+3)cuts giving (4*4*4*4*4) =1024 cuts. Will that be wrong. It would be very helpful if sir or any one of you can explain me this.

U can cut a cube in only 3 dimensions (5+5+5). For 3 cuts on each side there should be 5 dimensions which is impossible.

sir but when we do 28 cuts ,via logic it should be 9+9+10=810 seems like 1001 is an exception.

When we make 28 cuts as 9+9+10 the maximum pieces we will get is 10×10×11 =1100 in the question sir did not mention maximum pieces

I think the concept is not correctly explained in here. if we just want to obtain the maximum number of pieces and not by parallel cuts only then the best possible way to obtain the maximum number of cuts is to divide the cuts equally in 3 dimensions and taking any plane of the cube and making 2/3 of the cuts in the plane itself and that too as intersecting lines and the other 1/3 in a direction perpendicular to the before chosen plane in a parallel fashion
