I'm just watching Gameday ... Alzolay is facing Marte, 3-5 on the day. You have a critical at-bat, 2 outs, and a hot hitter. Alzolay pitches two well in the zone. I can't speak to the action on the ball before it got to the zone, but these two pitches were inches apart, on the same vertical. Almost like throwing the same pitch to the same spot. If I didn't outright walk this guy, I would have tried my luck around the edges and outside the zone. If he walks, he walks. I would not have put two pitches in the same place well inside the zone. Next inning, the two pitches thrown by Smyley have the same exact relationship to each other in space ... a few inches apart, on the same vertical, but a little higher in the zone. Never throw two pitches in the same place back to back? Unless you really feel like you're going to fool somebody. The batter doesn't have to make any adjustment--he just executed this swing the pitch before. Boom. Alzolay was one out away from the win. Also, Busch on 3rd with 1 out. Just have to make solid contact and either fly deep or keep it on the ground and he's home. Frustrating.

Fucking finally, a win in extras.
