John what you are showing will happen anyways without the door being closed if the snail wasnt put back on properly in the first place. You have to time the clock. I have experienced the same thing that you are discussing with the door open on a clock. Move the snail one gear tooth and it fixes it.

Could you show where the lever attached to the shut off stops the cuckoo? I have one that fell off during shipment.

Would removing the weights be a option

I latch the door and it doesn’t make noise but when I open it the bird comes out and it doesn’t make a noise until the hour or half hour. The problem is that the times it cuckoos is wrong now. Is there a way to get it to stay accurate to the time
