WOW! I’ve been dreaming of coming here to mine for fire agates for years, and I finally got the chance. Although I wasn't as prepared as I should have been, I know I'll be ready next time and will find many more beautiful fire agates. Plus, I had the delightful experience of petting burros in the charming town of Oatman, Arizona.

I do too , usually it's hot and dry out there ... this year, it was hot and humid, and that's much worse, LOL

@@huntingrocks you happened to arrive during Monsoon Season, which is when we have the higher humidity, and random, evening storms. :) I would even say to wait until November. Many times, it has not cooled down until after October 31st. At this time, snakes will be in brumation, so it's generally a safer time to go rock hounding in the desert locations. My husband and I like to go on our rock hounding trips to Northern Arizona in the summer, and save the desert for wintertime when there is snow up north. Arizona is really the most amazing place in the country for a rock hound to reside. There is a treasure trove of minerals to be found here! Keep coming back, you will not regret it! :)

@user-zl5cn4ex4o yeah I used to live out there a long time ago I had forgotten how humid it gets during monsoon season. But I do love how pretty it makes the desert.

@@huntingrocks ahh yes, Springtime is gorgeous after the rains. That's wildflower harvesting time! Autumn up north in Sedona, Oak Creek is amazing, also. That is wonderful that you used to live here! It has grown by leaps and bounds for sure! Another location you may want to try is the Perlite Caves in Superior, AZ for Apache Tears! You can dig large ones out of the Perlite Walls, and there are smaller ones that have fallen to the ground all over the place!

@@TinaScherling The desert really is beautiful , mist people only see it as a barren waste but there is so much life to it. And thank you for the info on the locations , I hope to make a South West trip next year in the late fall or winter , going to turn my self into a snowbird LOL

Haha brother it was a toaster oven out there and what's worse is the humidity was actually up from all the weird late in the year rain they had. You would LOVE playing with it, and no doubt could make some super pretty stuff.

Thanks for the adventure, Master Jeff. I could practically feel the heat through my screen. It’s been more humid than usual in Utah this summer also. I don’t know how people can stand living in that all the time. You found some really pretty stuff though. Looking forward to seeing what you found on your creek walk.

Being from St.Louis we k8nd of just grow accustomed to always feeling like we are in a steam basket, but this heat felt like an industrial steam pipe broke on me LOL . Its some cool and exciting stuff and was one of my most favorite videos to edit yet lol

Man, you are brave to even think about hard rock mining, in that weather. Of course, there, that weather is all the time! Maybe not triple digits in the late fall or early winter. Those were some awesome fire agates! The formations and those colors are just beautiful. How do you polish them? Do you contour polished them like they do with the Mexican fire agate? Can you do an episode on polishing them? I think that would be awesome! Thanks Jeff, for always taking the time to explain exactly what you are looking for and how to do it And even better, do it for us, and take us along virtually! It's the only way to mine!💗

Lisa, I'm not sure. Brave is the word you were going for. I think you meant "Wacko" LOL I for sure will hit it again but I think I'm going to do it in the fall or spring next time, may hold off me next year trip till it cools off and do the south west. The polishing them is still something I'm learning and have been practicing on , next week's video I find my pieces that are great for practice. I love to give folks and idea of what I'm doing and why incase some one else has a better idea and can toss me some pointers and of course vice versa for any one who already mines it and sees what I do and says "Hey why didn't I think of that" And I think I will do a polishing video, it may be wrong but it will be fun lol

That looks like an awesome place to mine! I’ll be adding that to my bucket list! In the cooler months, though, I can’t handle that kind of heat. You found some very nice bubbly pieces. Can’t wait to see what you do with them ❤ Oh just give Hamilton a kiss! He’s a sweet boy! 😂

Haha I'm gonna go out there again but it's gonna be in the fall, I was used to the heat out there when I was a kid but they had had so much rain it was actually humid in the desert .Scientifically speaking they had enough rain in February and March to not be a desert 😮

You did good for 4 hrs with the heat and humidity! That's some mighty tuff work there but very rewarding. They sure are beautiful pieces. Thanks for taking us along 👋😀

That was the crazy thing was the humidity usually out there you can spray your self down with a mister bottle and stay cool but this year the humidity was so high nothing was evaporating ... it was like some sort of sick amd twisted sauna lol

Thank you very, very much for those kind words. I love getting out and showing people where they can hunt for stuff from paymines to free . And I really enjoy doing it for the folks who can't get out and do it, coming up in the next few videos I'm getting ready to shoot I'm getting some new gear so I can wear a camera on my head so people can see just what I see and of course thebone I use now for close up shots. I want people to feel like they are more in the action.

Looked like some super hard stuff, but it was oozing with agate. That'll keep you pushing forward. Glad you had the sense to get out of the heat though. Hope you can get back out there in cooler weather like you said. It looks exhausting yet rewarding. That's fixin's for a good time if your brain isn't cooking.

It was amazing but so weird out there this year, the humidity was crazy high, it's never crazy high out there in June , but apperently they had massive rains in February and April it was June and the desert was still green , I lived out there for 8 years as a kid and never saw that

What's your plan of attack for polishing those
@huntingrocks
@huntingrocks Месяц назад
So I'm still learning and have been checking out other youtube videos, some of em I have polished down the more bubbly parts of the chalcedony and then I'm going to start slowly polishing with a rotary tool, that's how I have seen people get the most bubbly looking fire out of them. Next week's video I do a creek walk where I found more but not as nice so I am experimenting with it to see how it turns out. Fingers crossed
@Bigfoot903Outdoors
@Bigfoot903Outdoors Месяц назад
@huntingrocks I've heard that you can use a rotary tool and different grits of valve grinding compound working up to a buffing compound to accomplish a nice shine
