The scene was horrifying. I think I went into shock for awhile after. Then later they hung that young woman. That was a hard episode to watch. This series was incredible. Great actors and great stories.
33beluga she didn't like the weather or the set which is why she left and went home to Dublin, poor woman. Us Irish are tougher than that but nowadays there are too many wimps around.
@@cattlewranglerwalsh116 Is that true? I've heard very vague reasons why the show took a different direction around the end of season 2 with her character's death. I heard that some writer/producer changes caused her departure but I suspect her departure is what caused a scrambling for new story lines that were controversial among show insiders. The show continued to interest me and hold my interest and had some real clever, well done moments and characters after that season (Heyerdahl's character brilliant but needed to be offed at end of season two, regardless of Lily)...but for me the show peaked right at the moment before she died. And even that could've been aided by having Thor bite the bullet at the end of the season instead of letting him get away with it for years. The Mormon thing was good but having to find Bohannon another love interest from the Mormons was a stretch and really dominated the rest of the three seasons. Chinese girl fabulous but also a real stretch, esp his taking slow boat to China (much larger world back then) to find her and do what, where exactly?
Instead of killing off the character of Lilly, the writers should have had her needing to go east or even to England. Then at the end of the last season, Cullen should have gone to rejoin Lilly, not taken a ship to China, of all places!!! Seems like the writers scribbled out that ending in five minutes, just to be done with it. That was an awful ending to a great series.
I just found this series. I just finished season two. I haven't started season three, yet. I don't really have any motivation to. I really liked Lily Bell. I don't want to watch the show without her.
This was definitely one of the few romance stories that I have admired in all my years of watching movies and shows. They say that love is at first sight but Cullen and Lily's relationship throws that shit out the window. Their love for each other was built slowly overtime and not only that but it was built in the most realistic manner.
@@ICDisappear no more happy movies for us viewers ...they just give us crap to watch these days ....its OK for them...could at least send Lilly away to England or something with Cullen coming to visit her in last episode..which would keep us on tip toes ...nope ..!!!!!
A romance for the ages.....the looks they gave one another were electrical yet so subtle. The chemistry between them grew a great realization in Cullen..... that life can go on after losing his family. So so sad she had to die. Sigh. Very heartbreaking and it did change the show dramatically. Thanks for the video! Love it
one of the best shows I have ever seen. After lilly died it was very sad lilly and you have played each charter very well. Whoever came up with this show is an amazing open mined person wish there was more people like thay. Loved the show I could watch it over and over. Loved It
The first two seasons of Hell on Wheels were a masterpiece. The love scene between Cullen and Lily was beautiful. You could see that Cullen was finally letting go of so much pain from the loss of his wife and children and Lily, having overcome the loss of her own husband was the perfect person to guide him through that. Season three disappointed me so much because the whole romance and tragic loss was seemingly forgotten save for one odd reference. As far as I'm concerned the series ended with Cullen planting that railroad flag.
In Season 5 when he falls in love with Mei is also a very beautifully crafted romance. And its ending was as sad as when Lily died. Great show and characters. In most shows there always seem to be characters that were miscast, not so with Hell on Wheels. All were so good, especially the 2 main adversaries, Cullen and The Swede.
Lily should not have been killed off so soon in this wonderful show. The chemistry that Lily and Cullen had together made the show. It was the shows lost,
The chemisrty between Cullen Bohannon and Lilly Bell in my opinion was one of the best parts of the show. I never really got the same feeling with any of the other 'relationships' he was in after season 2....still a great series though🖤
Lily Bell's death was a puzzling and unexpected thing. She was undoubtedly the female lead on the show. I have continued to see the next seasons of the show and the weirdest thing is that there has never been a word, a thought or a regret from Cullen about her. Never! Not even when the Swede was hanged. The authors after all those protest emails could at least mention her and remember her in subsequent episodes. Lily Bell was a strong character from Hell on Wheels ... or not?
This was a GREAT series, I miss new Episodes! Cullen was Never allowed to live his life without being brought back down by other events he had no choice in.
Still after all this time Lilys death at the hands of the crazy man still haunts me! She was great in her 2 seasons on HOW. She was such a bright lite on the screen. The fact that Thor is still alive also makes me angry. He needs to die by Cullens hands. Ruths needless death is another sore spot for me. Thanks for this video even if it does bring back some sad memories.
Every woman that Mr Bohannon have in this series end up dead or was dead And they all were gorgeous corregious adventurer and Strong character women I wish to go back in time to meet my great great great grandma I'm pretty sure she was one this very strong and decisive people that forged our country as well as her family costumes and traditions ahh those very great women made it possible for all of US to be here And for that I am eternally grateful
yea..i just finished season 2 and was totally expecting to see that relationship blossom more over time...and not get to see that....is pretty fucked up!
I actually think he and Mei are a better fit... They both have that toughness, passion, support and understanding, that Bohannon and Lily just didn't quite have.
never did figure out why they killed her off and let Swede go. He was a great actor but he needed to go at end of season 2 for all he'd done...not counting Lily. Lily and Bohannon should've gone on for the remainder of the show and the plot should've taken another path besides getting too bogged down with the Mormons (though there were some interesting and well done episodes in that vein, I must admit). I heard that the actress or some of the writers/production team (key members thereof) wanted to do something else...but I don't know for sure. If they did off her later, it could have resulted in him meeting Kasha who loved him, instead of having her killed off in the most absurd, poorly thought through and disappointing episode of the entire series.@
@@snuffysmif9801 very uninteresting couple ..and that Mei such a plain looking ugly lil thing ...prolly paid her nothing /wages/ cheap low budget actress straight from school
Feminist, take note : she is, repeat after me, feminine, not fat, respectful , speak properly and calm, has long hair, dress properly and acts like a woman, doesn’t challenge men’s masculinity, doesn’t wear weaves, and is actually beautiful.
Yeah they could've made their story longer considering they just finally got together after all the anticipation but from what I've read they thought it might be cancelled
Cant remember if I watched this Don when you posted it on the Anson Mount and Hell on Wheels fan page....but am seeing it now and I love it. Keep making them.....I think a video of Anson/Cullen would be cool set to Adele's When we were young....cuz Anson looks like a movie and sounds like a song.... nice video my friend. Hope all is well in Egypt
2023 I watched it a couple times on Netflix. All together I think I watched the series 4 times. Such an interesting show. Really enjoyed it. And I enjoyed looking at Anson Mount. 😊🌻
Gotta say- all of you are saying lily should've stayed alive in HoW. I disagree entirely. Yes it's sad. The whole show is sad. That's the point. It's meant to be a tragedy with a beautiful ending. And it does just that. It ends beautifully, just like breaking bad did. Yes, like breaking bad, there were still some questions left unanswered, but that's for the fans to answer themselves. You always end essays with a thought provoking statement.. but you should transfer that logic to tv production. Give it a beautiful and thought provoking ending. Think about it: had lily lived, the great, albeit sad, story of HoW just wouldn't be nearly same, and not nearly as good.
Yep, and I dont like her character after she had sex with Durant that's a no no on a tv series or even a movie that's bad for her character progression. I like Ruth's character now and a little bit of Eva after I finish watching season 2
Mei beats all female characters in this series. I love the fact Cullen is leaving Sacramento to begin a new life; away from his angry previous life in the story. Mei is loyal, has integrity, is faithful, is intelligent, works hard, respects her father and loves Cullen more than Lily did. Lily loved Cullen for the sake of the RR. This is my favorite series of all time...I even bought the entire set of DVDs just in case Netflix discontinues it. I have watched the entire series 7 times. Interesting fact: Durant, Hollington and Bohannon were all real life characters. There is so much info on the internet re. the building of the Transcontinental RR.
@@maridicksonjung3958 unlikely man leaves US in 1868 for China. Unlikely man marries her and brings her home in mixed race marriage. Just very, very unlikely. She was a hottie, though.
Seen every episode and i must say, Cullen did good by the ones Thor killed. He honored lily by not being the judge. He honored the hatchites by not being the jury. He honored them all and brought justice to all Thor's victims by not becoming the executioner. He saved his soul when he chose not to kill him but brought him before a trial.
sounds good but reality is that morality would have been served if Bohannon had shot him in the head instead of taking him out to bridge at end of season 2 and letting him go. It would have been served if he'd killed him before soldiers arrived in season 5. It was like when Ruth shot Sydney...there was no way killing him could be immoral (or, in Ruth's case, illegal either). If for some reason, the army had let him go due to lack of evidence, etc., would that have made Cullen a better man or served morality? The law is a framework. Trouble is, psychopaths have a way of skirting the framework, denying mercy, morality and justice to innocent people all along the way...until someone stops them.
@@teller1290 teller12 i won't deny what happened to Ruth where a shame, and is one of the reasons Cullen left Union Pacific, because of the injustice, served there Cold blood or not Ruth where entitled, but the railroad workers relied on the work, the moneymen supporting Durant and Grant, and could not handle a scandal, if bohannon shot his way out with Ruth he would create a ripple effect of bad events... The Guy in the church where in Cold blood and for his sense of justice and way of life he even promises Ruth to let go of his hateful site... Hey tried to hang the swede but he got away, (not intentially on bohannons behalf) it where a moment that changed the series and bohannon, the swede wanted bohannon to kill him and to make a point to everyone that bohannon is a monster and the swede is sent to eradicate bohannon (the Devil in swedes eyes) bohannon wanted so see the swede be Judged by his peers and not the former Southern Soldier.
@@davidjessen9098 what scandal? Shooting a wanted, child-murdering, town-burning arsonist, fugitive? I wasn't suggesting he shoot his way out with Ruth. I am saying Ruth should not have been in trouble at all for shooting Sydney as he threatened Bohannon and the town, walking down the street as bold as brass and armed to the teeth, uttering threats as he walked. She'd have been Citizen of the Week. The way they showed Bohannon screwing up the hanging was unrealistic. After he found Lily dead, Bohannon would have never let the Swede live long enough to be hanged...and if he did, he would have been focused like a laser on finishing job. The Swede was such an extreme character, southern justice would've been just fine with me. But, I admit I'm an unreconstructed southerner, myself.
@@teller1290 the scandal: the guvernor where there, if the guvernor didn't get a statement of regret she wouldn't get a pardon. I do think Sidney should burn in Hell for what he did, but in the eyes of the law he where killed in Cold blood on an open Street with witnesses. I dont sympatize with Snowd for one bit.. Yeah he messed up with the hanging but i think it where a moment og weakness in grief..
@@davidjessen9098 make up your mind: All the law cares about (now and then) is was the killing necessary; that is, was an innocent party in imminent danger. Clearly they were as Sydney walked down the street armed to the teeth, issuing threats out loud, and being wanted at that moment for the arson-murder the day before. The fact that she enjoyed the killing is, in fact, irrelevant. It bothered HER and that is what the writers of the show got hung up on and wanted to make the whole ordeal about. But in reality the law doesn't care how much you enjoyed shooting the guy who is breaking into your house. It only cares if the circumstances allow you to claim self-defense of yourself OR ANOTHER. In Ruth-Sydney situation, SOMEBODY needed to shoot Sydney. Would Bohannon have won the draw-down with Sydney? Maybe, but why should he have to? Law enforcement isn't a sporting contest. Another way of saying it, vengeance killing is normally a crime (but rarely a capital offense if you had a right to be white hot mad)...BUT if your vengeance fits within a legal framework, such as self defense of yourself OR another(s), you're good to go no matter how much you may have enjoyed having legal license to do it. Another example, if an executioner ordered to execute the condemned admits later that he enjoyed hanging two people, has he committed a crime? You say he was under orders and the law PERMITTED the two killings. True. But the law ALSO allowed Ruth (or anyone else nearby) to act in a clear case of self-defense OR self defense of another in imminent danger (as Bohannon and all the town's people along the street were at the time).
I played this video on silence while I play to be alone by Hozier and it worked out perfect! would you be able to redo it just for me? I don't have the ability nor the skill to make a video like this...
Gunderson had to be the best character,by golly ,them numbers just dont add up This is beauty, she is old but she shoots true. My wife stole my cuckoo clock.
...what amazing couple...!!!!!..larger then life love story ... of course .....they Could not even send her away to "Chicago " .for example .....nope . had 2 kill her ..like life is not miserable enough they had to give us crap to watch...this..Thanxs .....show ended for me with Lilly death ...they could bring her back in a last episode with him going to visit etc ..nope ..!!!!......had to kill her by that disgusting psychopath ...Thanxs ...!!!!!....well season 1 was great and thats all for me ...and from what Im seeing lots of other folks......who writes thics script ...? ruined it
Spoiler Ahead.. When your a fan of horror movies you will now its a death flag lol :D but i do get your point I don't like Cullen that much too especially the way he treat her new wife but no one can kill him he has plot armor as thick as the mount everest lol. Hmm if only Lily Bell was force by Durant to sleep with him I would forgive her but no one force her tho so she kinda like a social climber that cannot stand on it own.., not worthy to be a leading lady
I do read tho that the actress who played Lily Bell quit the tv series because of the cold weather that maybe she's not use to.. I don't know if its true, if its true that's the reason why her character died even tho she bring a lot of viewers in the show and her character is still needed in the show.
+Brian Scrivner how does fighting the forces that he and others felt responsible for invading their country and setting their cities on fire LESS "manly," or masculine I think you mean? Has our fem-centric society really gone that far with people? It would've been 100% reasonable to assume someone who lost everything violently to an enemy that ATTACKED him and his homeland would fall into a revenge seeking mindset.
In the 4th season when cullen's friend set church on fire Ruth's innate reaction should be that where the boy is? instead she just overreact to the situation ❗️
