I winter in Panama, Central America. Most of the people live along the southern, Pacific side where one long highway causes all the world's nations to be squeezed into an observable view unlike anywhere else. In the shopping center of the Coronado area I often see Muslims, where the females are in traditional garb, but the males dress like someone at the beach in Florida. I also often see traditional San Blas/Guna Indian women with husbands wearing "white" people's clothing...and their kids with dyed hair, piercings, and ear buds. In Farmington, NM in Dinetah I see indigenous kids at the mall with AC/DC shirts on (or some more modern rapper equivalent)...do we make this issue bigger than it really is?

Fascinating. I was not raised as indigenous or in an indigenous culture, but only discovered my Native American heritage later in life and have now connected with my indigenous family and tribal members. It is unclear to me how the "rules" apply to me, as a "mixed race" person wishing to respect the Native culture, not wishing to be guilty of trying to "appropriate" it , but wanting to connect with my ancestors and Native family members. Suggestions?

Bozhhoo, Sabé indigoo, Migizi Doodem Annishinaabé, Chi-Miigwich Waagoosh. With a lot of similarities seen at Pow Wow's , so many things are done the same, like dancing and music, drumming and singing, that what I consider unique to each tribe, band, or nation? So, only a few differences, that anyones practices could be unoffensive, when there's no specific instructions on practicing, except what was taught and learned, from a non reservations native perspective, and opinion, as well as the cultural similarities but also differences. Black Native Indians, to unrecognized tribes, there's modern and current materials and made in a modern fashion compared to the old and historical ways, and my hats off to anyone made with authentic materials gathered, processed, and made into clothing. Bone needles, sinew, tanned deer skin, feathers, and no beadwork, to minimal. No modern materials should have a category. Lol. Chi-Miigwich again Waagoosh. Giggawaabamin Miinowaa 👣🦅🔥🛶🏹

Culture doesn't require consent. Even if it's awkward, tacky, or inauthentic, it's still doesn't require consent or approval.

Respect for others, goes a very long way in this world. It may not be a requirement, but being respectful will win you a lot more friends, than being an ass.

@@DetroitMicroSound This isn't respect, its classic Marxist nonsense and a dramatically naive misunderstanding of culture.

Why did you apparently delete your comment to me? Don't tell me, you're a right-winger?

@@DetroitMicroSound I'm not deleting them (hint).

@@zenasprime So, you are claiming Anton did? Highly unlikely. Are you a Republican, or Libertarian? Be honest.
