This is a fantastic video. Boy George & Culture Club has always known how to take a message in their songs and make them relevant in their videos. The message in "The War Song" is always relevant no matter what language it's in.
When I was growing up, Boy George & Culture Club were heroes to me; ones I could look up to without fear of who I really was inside. Boy George is still one of my best inspirations in my life. To me, he faced criticism everywhere, but he kept bringing his wonderful, hip, cool songs to the forefront of the age. He never let anyone bring him down. As an alternative lifestyle kid growing up, I looked up to him as someone who was out there, free to sing beautiful songs and his messages, at least in my opinion, were of equality for all. Not just of tolerance of different lifestyles, race, religion, but of acceptance. I still get a kick listening to his music.
From One 'Michael' 2 another 'Michael, I totally wrapped myself & some of my very best of friends Right on into "Culture Club"!! I'm in the "USA" Right in the middle of "America" The 💜Heartland. "Kansas City, Missouri" to be exacted. We had 3 "Top 40 CHR (Contemporary Hit's Radio) Stations". That was the 80's for yaw, Coemption on who was going 2 B "The #1 Hit Music Station"??? Boy Oh Boy, all 3 Station Had their day or I guess I should say A full Year of Bragging Rights on We ARE "KANSAS CITY'S #1 HIT MUSIC STATION"!! Well, sorry about me getting carried away with the Radio Station's. Like I was saying, When the year 1982 came on up, And A Song Everyone Was Talking About, "CLUTURE CLUB" - "DO YOU REALLY WANT TO HURT ME" was getting 'AIR PLAY' ONE SATION & "NOT THE OTHER 2 CHR"S"!!!!! So, my friend's & myself would Phone In to the other 2 "CHR STATION'S" And REQUEST, "CULTURE CLUB" "DO YOU REALLY WANT TO HURT ME"? We got Response's Like,,,,,,What & Why Do U Wanna Hear That Shit or CRAP of A Song?????????? We would say, It's REALLY 2 BAD THAT YOUR SHALLOW MINDED AND YOU NOT GOING GO FAR IN LIKE BEING A BIGGGGGGGOT ~ THAT YOU SURE ARE!! IN FACT, A LITTLE INFO 4 YA BIGGOT! KBEQ 104.3 'KANSAS CITY'S SUPPER Q 'THE # 1 HIT MUSIC STATION' Is PLAYING "CULTURE CULB" "DO YOU REALLY WANT TO HURT ME"!! And It's in "HEAVY ROTATION". That Means It Play's Every 2Hr's or 2 & 30Min's!!! He was such an ASS~HO**!! I Remember 2 This Day, He Replayed, Well Maybe Thay Want to Play That """""""FAGGOT BAND""""""""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was A wreak! I went on to be A SOLID HIT FOR "CULTURE CLUB" And What Was So Beautiful, The Other 2 "CHR STATIONS Were Forced 2 Add the Song 2 Their PLAY LIST!! VICTORY AT LAST!!!!!!!! And Then The "CLUTURE CLUB" HITS Kept Rolling on Out!!!!! So, So So DAMN AWESOME!!!!!!!! "BOY GEORGE" Was & Is A Mentor to me!!! Helped me so much Looking @ the LYRICS' Of the Songs! OMG! It Was Like All Of them were experiences He had Been Through. 'Michael' just thinking you're the only one in the world thinking this and having Identity Issue's, this 'Michael' went through it also! I remember this well, I was one of the skeleton children (around 5:50 in the video). Our school was invited to take part together with other local schools. I remember walking at the back near the tank, chatting to the band - great guys if I remember right. I also remember the cold egg McMuffins!
Such a fun, but long day of filming! So many kids! It was exciting enough being part of the video... But the McDonald trucks arriving to feed everyone was just as awesome back then!
Growing up, I remember fondly that Boy George was one of my favorite heroes of music. He never let anyone rule who he was, or what he did. I deeply respect him for his individuality; his music; his messages, in my opinion, of equality for all. Plus, he has an amazing voice!! I'll always hold him in high regard. @TheNouveauxdecadence You are soooooooo right! This was awesome! I remember when it first came out. People didn't like it that much where I'm from. People always viewed Boy George as a character, and i guess that's so many failed to take him seriously for a change, because this was a serious song with a serious message. The theme behind this song is truly timeless!
