Welcome to Brisbane. I'm the opposite to you as I moved from Australia to Vietnam 17 years ago. We just love your home country, and have found it so incredibly friendly all these years, but as I'm retiring I'm returning to Brisbane to live next month. I hope I don't get too much culture shock moving home. I'll always miss Vietnam though.

I think the super positive thing is a younger person thing. Older generations may be more restrained and often say “That’s not bad.” To be really positive say, “That’s not bad” followed by “Not bad at all.” My partner (who works for an American company) once said to an American colleague that something was ‘not bad’ and offended his colleague mightily😉

Great to see that you're enjoying living in the land downunder. I get your cultural shock when you moved to Australia, mine was the other way around I lived in Vietnam for awhile. But yes walk into any coffee shop, fast food restaurant, right down to the family run eateries in Vietnam and you will always get wi-fi, lol no not the street vendors. But what I miss about Vietnam is the vibe of the markets, day or night and the iced coffee, I am yet to find a coffee shop here in Briz Vegas that can make a Vietnamese iced coffee that's any good.

I feel that the positivism in Aussie culture depends on regions as well. I personally experience this positive culture is very popular in Adelaide, Brisbane but this is very rarely in industrial cities such as Sydney or Melbourne. I prefer realism, consumerism in culture of Sydney or Melbourne, while I feel unfamiliar with positivism in Australian culture when living in Adelaide. I guess it depends on individual’s cultural adaptability.

Shortening Garden City to Garbo is a bit odd when garbo is someone whose job is to collect the rubbish from residential and industrial bins. lol GP's have a role of discerning the specialist direction so people aren't hunting down an incorrect specialist. Psychologists aren't able to prescribe medications. That's the role of psychiatrists and GP's. Some medications and conditions can only be done by doctors in its specialist field. Psychologists are not able to officially diagnose but they can recommend to a panel of psychiatrists to confirm a diagnoses. Yeah but Starbucks doesn't sell real coffee. heh

ROTFL Starbucks virtually closed up the majority of their outlets in Australia because there is so much better coffee available at the huge number of local cafes even in the smallest of towns. The coffee culture here is the best in the world. This is because of the high number of migrants coming here from Italy and Greece after the last world war and also the migrants from Brazil and Columbia where the best beans are grown.

@Josh-rn1em
@Josh-rn1em 2 года назад
@@darkprincess1595 One thing to remember is that we are more "country" than other western countries. Here in Perth we are very relaxed. Some of us are loud and seem low class but our culture was influenced by England. We didnt like the class system and we rebeled. So now class isnt strong. Rich and poor can have a beer. We dont see cleaners or drivers to be low class. Work is work and australians see all work as important. Ive heard Africans see this as strange. Maybe indians too. I have a problem with someone about 5 or 6 times a year. They want to give me crap. So if you have a problem with someone who is just being stupid, dont worry. We all do. Dont take it personally. Just ignore it or say something back. Up to you. Some boss are horrible. So please see us as individuals. Some good and some bad. But its not dangerous with crime like other places. Have you spoken to other indians that live here? They might tell you the same. Its a beautiful country and all australians love it. So please dont say its bad to australians. It will cause problems. We like to think we are perfect haha. Also you will see that people who are here for a long time will act like australians and joke like we do. Its joking and making fun of others in the australian way. So just watch what we do. And if someone is an kunt please understand we know some people are bad, but we see expression as important. Say hello when walking past someone. Just a quick nod of the head and gday. Its just what we do. Mostly. Good luck. I hope you do well here. Maybe i dont make sense right now but when you live here a while you will see what i mean.

Sorry totally disagree. Never been to Queensland, but as an Australia living in Sydney and Melbourne, I have found this culture and people to be obsessed with masculinity (including the women) and consumerism. They like to come across as relaxed on the surface but many get frustrated over the tiniest thing, driving, queues or just someone saying an opinion they disagree with. Most of these people cannot mind their own business and feel it is their right to push their opinions on others. But I am glad you are enjoying your time here :)

It’s a Sydney thing. I’m from Brisbane but live in Sydney and it’s a different attitude down here, the attitude is more pushy and ’me first’. It also has the largest foreign born population in Australia (more than 40%) and the lowest % of people with both parents born in Australia- so there are more international outlooks. A lot of Sydney people are considered to be jerks when they behave in their usual manner in Queensland, especially when they’re on holidays or just moved up there. After a while most of them lose attitude and chill out with the locals.
