As a Spaniard, I can tell you the shocking number 4 is not always true. I always eat the skin on fruit and a lot of people who I know, too. Another thing is cussing, It depends on the part of Spain you are visiting, here in Andalucía the closer your friends are to you, the more insults you give them, with soft spot. However, it's just a stereotype so depends on the situation.

As a Spaniard I gotta admit, this is so true and u explain it in a hilarious way. The cussing culture is wonderful because it's too boring to always use the same swearword, like in english f*ck, for example; so we have a lot more variety xd. More videos please, loved this one!

Desde antiguo los mismos productores/ cosechadores de fruta en el campo, cuando durante la jornada comían desde los mismos árboles la fruta, y como no disponían de agua, más allá de la que vevían, peleaban la fruta, porque se la suponía sucia, de polvo de tierra del propio campo y excrementos de pájaros e insectos, lo más rápido e higienico era pelarla, después. Ellos en casa hacían lo mismo, y claro su familia lo imitaban, y eso generación tras generación, quedó como un hábito, y como la práctica más común, y actualmente aunque sabemos que los nutrientes más importantes están en la piel, la mayoría de nosotros, seguimos o siguen haciéndolo. Esa creo que es la razón., 😂😂😂. Pero claro que tienes razón. Talogooo !! 😂😂😂😂

,jajaja soy española y en mi casa la pizza se corta con tijeras. Teniendo tijeras para que comprar un cortapizza. Quizás depende de cuantas veces a la semana comas pizza. En mi caso, las pizzas las hago en casa y como mucho 1 vez al mes.

another thing that Expats from anglo saxon countries never understand and explains most of their culture shocks: In Europe the "appearence" doesn't define the essence like in anglo-saxon heritage countries, also we can contextualize, we don't take things as a general (explained otherwise: in those countried you if you LOOK rich, you are , if you LOOK honest you are, if the cake LOOKS good it IS good). So, as long as you drink in public, but from a bottle whose appearance is covered, you are "not drinking"; or if you see a naked body through a wet t-shirt, you can do it, as it is "technically" covered; or a more recent example: have you noticed how the "gun" and the razorblade emoji have been recently replaced - since the standard originated in asia is now managed by an US-centric entity - by a "water gun" and a "disposable" razor, as if the pistol-emoji or the free-blade razor themselves were "bad"? In Europe we have a different attitude that translates in less attention to form and appearence ("please", "thanks", makeup, norms bla bla bla) and more attention to the actual substance of things. We don't have (yet, but of course americans are rapidly colonizing us also culturally): "banned words" or banned things (you CAN'T drink if you are not of a certain age and so on), no obsession against SEX (seeing half a nipple already the end of the world), no obsession against alcohol or smoke or anything else. For us it sounds stupid using "f-word" "n-word" and so on, resulting in giving even more focus in the statement to a word that it would have been just a word, in mainland Europe, we contextualize. Things facts and Words aren't negative per-se, it all depends on the use you make of them. You can use a gun to shoot a baloon or to shoot a person. That's why for in mainland europe (UK is a world apart) you can hear "bad words" used in a normal colloquial way, depending on the meaning, the tone, and the context. As well, depending on the situation, you can do "forbidden" things, in a controlled environment. This overloads of restrains and "CAN'T" also has the opposite effect: creates huge desire to break the schemes, that can be released whether getting totally wasted on a saturday, or even in some worse thing.

First of all welcome and good video. I am Spanish and I have never seen pizza cut with scissors. The fruit was always eaten with the skin but not everyone does, some peel it for fear of pesticides, especially if you eat outside the home and you don't know how they washed it. Greetings.

Actually, the birthday treat ins't a norm but something some people do. About the pizza, very few people cut pizza with scissors in Spain, most just cut it with a knife or with a pizza cutter like in US. About the fruits, people used to eat the whole thing including the skin but they stopped doing it due to the pesticides. Many pesticides remain in the outer peel and some even enter the fruit flesh. If you go to the county side, you still can see people eating the whole thing if they know the fruit is 100% natural.

True is, though, that my wife prefers to peel them (even grapes... which is really shocking to me!)... and my kids are becoming to get used to that... but I do not think this can be generalized... en Alemania estuve en el parque Englischer Garten " Jardin ingles" y habia un hombre totalmente desnudo. por suerte, yo habia leido en mi guia de viajes que existe algo llamado " free body culture". asi q yo estaba un poquito preparado a un choque cultural. Tambien estuve en una playa en Grecia donde estaba escrito en les letras mausculas " FKK " = Freikörperkultur (free body culture) . esto fue para mi el principal choque cultural en Europa

4:32 I think this "tradition" comes from many decades ago when it was usual to use pesticides on fruits and sometimes farmers didn't wash those fruits before selling them therefore they were toxic. Now they're not but consumers tend not to be sure, therefore we peal our fruits before eating them :-) I know, that's a bad idea.

Hola Rachel, yo español, de Murcia, y por casualidad, encontré tus videos, son muy interesantes las comparaciones que haces entre la cultura española y estadounidense, sin juzgar nada, sólo comentas tu experiencia y de forma agradable y simpática. Por otra parte quería comentar, que en un vídeo tuyo decías que la sanidad (seguridad social), médicos, enfermeros, etc, es gratis, esto no es verdad, es un error, incluso entre los españoles. A todos los trabajadores el gobierno nos descuenta de nuestro sueldos un porcentaje, en el que pone cotización a la seguridad social, y eso dinero que el gobierno recauda es para mantener las pensiones y la sanidad pública. Y también servicios sociales. No todo el mundo paga igual, el que más gana más paga y el que menos gana paga menos, así poniendo un poco cada uno, se puede mantener el sistema sanitario. También te descuenta otro porcentaje de irpf (impuesto) y con eso se mantiene el resto de servicios públicos, educación, policía, infraestructuras, etc. En Españ existe lo que se llama un pacto social intergeneracional, los jóvenes que trabajan, mantiene s los ancianos. Jajajaja pues esta mañana desayuné dos manzanas con su piel jajaja. Muchas veces se pela la fruta pero son más manías personales que costumbres. A los críos sí que se les pela la fruta para facilitar su ingesta o que no se pongan remilgosos con la comida. Buen vídeo ;)

Hi, my name is Joseph, and since you've mentioned all the spaniards never eats the fruit skin, I have to specificly say something important you have to know about it ( and there's a reason for that ). Since the fruits are harvested & collected later, everyone knows there's a step in which all the hervesters applies toxic products over the vegetables & fruits, just to keep the insects away from those products. That's why, if we see anyone eating anything without peeling it, we advice that person to don't do it unless he/she wanna gets poisoned him/herself. Every product shown on the markets and on the shops sems to be as much cleaned as possible but, for being safer, after buying those products, one have to ""clean"" them to not being poisoned so easily. We know we gonna loose some beneficial properties by eating the skin but, "" that's the prize we have pay for it "".

No creo que los españoles seamos malhablados en general... "maldecir" (cussing) es algo que hacemos entre amigos. Es como un signo de confianza. Si un español habla contigo y suelta un par de tacos, probablemente le caes bien. Pero no nos cagamos en la ostia hablando con la cajera del supermercado, ni con desconocidos en general. En esos caso solemos ser bastante correctos. Entre amigos, un insulto incluso puede ser una muestra de cariño, o de admiración.

Las manzanas llevan muchos pesticidas porque siempre hay muchos bichos que se las quieren comer. No es una buena idea comerse la piel de las manzanas. Conocí una finca en la que los conejos se comían las que se caían al suelo y morían por docenas. Todos los días pasaba un señor con una carretilla recogiendo los conejos muertos que después tiraba a un hoyo. De cuando en cuando los quemaban a todos.

....As an italian I can tell you that even if they will never admit but often also italians cut pizza with scissors - especially homemade pizza.... we don't have the wheel (and the knife often makes a mess)...la tijera del pescado toda la vida :D

I have always eaten the skin of fruits except orange and melon and banana, and thought it was a common thing. But I´m from Barcelona, and when I came to Granada for living I had also a kind of culture shock. Even in Granada, though, I haven´t noticed people don´t eat fruit skins (at least apples and pears). Also, I worked in a pizza restaurant and we used to cut it with these special round metal wheels. But I suppose some people don´t eat pizza so often, so they don´t feel the need of having that kind of tool at home.

I use one of those round cutters for pizzas. I hate touching food with hands (to be more precise I hate getting my hands dirty) and less when other people are gonna eat that pizza too. When I'm cooking pizza I divide it in the pieces needed, then put it in the oven so when it's done all pieces are already cut and easy to separate. But MY piece of pizza will be eaten with fork and knife.
