G'day Kim, Arvo (short for afternoon)can be confused with Avo (avocado). For recycled clothes try your local Op Shop (opportunity shop) quite often run by local church groups, and usually good value. Don't be afraid to ask people for help.Usually Aussies are very willing to assist. All the best.
I live in Victoria and do not have a dryer, once or twice each Winter I will go to the coin laundry to dry my clothes mostly the line is fine. I agree the postage is outrageous here for parcels; I can get parcels sent from the US to Australia cheaper. Coles did try selling general merchandise in some of their large stores about a decade ago however they have since abandoned it.
Kitchens and laundries are separate for sanitary reasons .Dryers are good for finishing off drying from the clothesline when clothes are slightly damp.
Even in the winter we experienced this year it was still warmer than summer in the UK 😅 so maybe I'm just not used to the cold yet but I've always been lucky to get my washing dry 😊
The Lady of the house says she has a dryer mainly for towels...they dry softer in the dryer than outside I thought it was 'a fine dryin day the day hen"😀
Couldn’t agree more about there being no need for owning a dryer down here. I’ve never owned one and have never even considered it. The air is dry in winter making it perfect for drying clothes and warm to hot in summer. Absolutely no reason to add your electricity bill. Who doesn’t love the smell of air dried sheets and towels?
@@kimberleylucasuntil you live somewhere like Oberon in nsw or Bendigo in Vic. Where the weather can be downright horrible for weeks on end. It depends a lot on the local climate. Was a interesting reaction. Our slang can get much harder to depending on where you live , when I worked out around Ayers Rock we used a lot of pidgin English and local aboriginal words mixed up in our slang.
Online shopping is usually overnight now and Amazon is FREE😊😊😊. Things close earlier because nobody wants to work late just so you can have a tub of icecream at 11:30pm. No one wants to be rowing through the gears of a manual transmission on the 6th biggest continent (Australia) when I can have a auto and just put it in Drive. You make some very valid points, great vid.. Up the mullet.
G'day Kimberly, from part 1. Alcohol can be purchased from the supermarket, just depends on state laws. Certainly available here in the ACT (Canberra) in supermarkets. My local Coles has a liquor section.
One of the differences I noticed in the UK was that there were fewer independent fruit and veg shops and fewer neighbourhood bakeries. Here, these are more common. Have you noticed this too? I think older vehicles here do not have as much rust due to the weather being very different. Also, many people here, but not all, do not judge others on the age or type of vehicle. If it is still working well and is enjoyable to drive, people will often keep it longer. You are right about automatic cars being very common here.
I've lived 4 cities in Australia, including 5 apartments in one city and 5 in another, and only one of them had washing machine taps in the kitchen. It was weird at first but I got used to it. IDK why young guys insist on wearing mullets these days. They were crap in the 80s, and they're crap now 😂 P.S. Afternoon is shortened to arvo (the r goes before the v) 😊
haha its strange when you are not used to it! i do prefer it in a seperate room i must admit! not a huge fan of mullets personally, definitely gives me 80's The beetles feels! haha, thanks for correcting me! i'll remember now! :)
@@kimberleylucas It is a right wing station so if you are a conservative follower it will suit you. If you are not then whatever the ABC station would be an alternative. I suggest you move through a few of them to find the one that feels like the right fit for you.
Great vid - always interesting to hear the differences. Are there large shopping malls there, or is it more like UK with “street shopping”? Distance in KM and speed in KM/H is far more logical than miles and yards… 👍🏻
Hi Kim, you will need a dryer in areas that have regular, seasonal (Not to be confused with Chicken seasoning) rain. Mullet hair cuts are weird but we Aussies don't mind. Long hair in a bar fight makes the job easier for normal blokes.
@@BarbaraMacDonald-bq1lb That depends on where you live. In the Monsoon Tropics, you have the Wet Season. For Darwin that is typically between November and April, although it is expected to be a late Wet this year. Sydney's rain is fairly well spread across the year, but with a lot of variability between suburban regions.
Agree about the clothes dryer , lived in Tassie 55 years and neither me or my parents or daughter have ever owned a clothes dryer. I never really associated redheads with Scotland , I guess I just thought of Scotland male teens as all having skinheads or shaved heads whatever you want to call it , maybe it's from movies or something I have seen on Scotland . Also am surprised at the huge difference in Scottish accents between you and a Scottish RU-vidr that I watch regularly called " Beth roars", must be from opposite parts of Scotland as sound nothing like each other 😃
i just had a look and im not sure where she's from, sound like she's losing her accent a little! mine is still very strong - so im regularly told! haha
Power bills will make you blink so sunlight is a friend. Oh ! You've discovered chicken salt ..... good, innit ? Long hair & mullets keep the sun off your neck. Send postage "collect" with your trades. Daylight saving won't let you go to bed early. Manual cars haven't died yet but most city-based cars seem to be autos. ARVO ! YES,Aussies swear,a lot !
I don't really get it with the mullets...it used to be extinct but I think some famous football (AFL/NRL) players had them and they seemed to have triggered a resurgence. Even my nieces partner had one when he was younger (yes he plays soccer) but changed his style later on. I find it a little weird and feel like I've passed through a time warp or something....I'm just waiting for the 80's and 90's music to play from the radio.
the 80's and 90's music i could live with - better than some of the crap you hear today! haha but the mullets im just not too keen on, however some people can really pull them off! :)
Afternoon is Arvo. You said Avro. Close. 😜 Avro is almost like Agro. You don't know who Agro is you should look him up. He's a legend in Australian tv a few yrs back. 😎
I donate a lot of clothes, always have done, however some of my designer pieces have only been worn a few times and if i can get something back for them then its a win :)
@@kimberleylucas There are high end second hand stores in both Sydney and Melbourne who buy clothes and then resell them. Try searching online for them.
Kim, iv'e heard that elbow wants to change Aust to metric time, e.g. 100 mins per hour etc. Is thut troo? P.S. The Scotish accent is my favourite in the hole Wuld Kim. ❤❤❤❤. I just takin the puss. 😂😂😂😂
That is just a bulldust conspiracy theory Wallywombat. We won't be changing unless everyone else does. Same as with the change to dollars & cents and metric measurement.
here the taxes for ya paying 5% custom duty " 10% import duty ' 10% gst ' 49% fuel excise to import goods . Australian Government crooks i work in automotive industry . New Bmw m3 in uk 75000 pounds and $185000aud in Australia ) luxury car tax 33% on cars over $70000aud , cars imported from europe 10% import duty aswelll
i actually read about the Luxury car tax and wondered if thats why you dont see as many Audis/Mercs around, is that why? the flip side of this is that i do see quite a lot more Lambos and Ferraris around than what i would in the uk...
