Turkish people are the most welcoming people I've encountered in the 22 countries I've visited. They're very helpful and proud of their culture. Although not many Turkish speak English, they would still go out of their way to try to help you. One time I was lost in the old town of Istanbul and my phone died. I was looking for the ferry terminal on Galata area (near the bridge). I asked a young lady for a direction, she said "no English" but she asked me to wait in a gesture. At first I was confused, then I saw her talking to other people, she came back minute later with a gentle man. She introduced me to a man who could speak English. I can't thank her enough. I had a few other experience that sort of thing. I was very impressed. I've visited Izmir, Kusadasi, Ephesus, Pamukkale, and Cappadocia. I had the same experience. One of my very good friend whom I've met through YT comment section is Turkish. We've met when I was in Istanbul. He toured me around and he is the nicest person I've ever met in all of my travels. Even the cab drivers are very nice. I could say that Turkish hospitality are at par with Mexicans., 2 of my favourite countries.

Love this! Turkey was the first place I ever traveled abroad to (from the U.S.). I was a 21-year old solo-female traveler from the country who had never taken a city bus before. I couldn't have chosen a better place to travel to. Everyone in the states was afraid of ISIS at the time; I arrived in Istanbul, stayed for eight months, and quickly realized just how much American media dramatizes everything. There were four instances where men made me feel unsafe....but aside from that, I had no problems there. There's no place like it in the world.

Such a beautiful and necessary video! I was just like you before I went to Turkey and started traveling the world, all the media over here had brain washed me without noticing it. I never was someone to trust the media, but whenever someone asked me about going to Turkey or the middle east I always was like "meh I don't know about that" until I finally decided to go and get my own impression of the world. I was so beautifully welcomed in Turkey, the people were so kind and helping, I was so ashamed of myself that I let myself get manipulated from the media over here. I initially only wanted to stay for 2 weeks, but ended up staying there for 2 months, traveling to different parts of the country. Turkey has got to have the most diverse culture in the world. Each part of Turkey I visited is so unique and different, it's like traveling to multiple unique countries except that it's only 1. The only things they all had in common was the kindness of the people. And I loved the call to prayer, I always got the chills when the call started and they stopped playing music and trading in the entire city out of respect for the call. After Turkey I traveled to Azerbaijan and to Pakistan and experienced the same thing, the people were all so loving and welcoming. Inviting a complete stranger into their homes and to dinner eventhough they weren't the wealthiest people. I was invited to so many dinners and homes where the families didn't even have a proper home, but were living in a tent. It's just incredibly sad when we look at how the media portrays Islamic countries nowadays and how many people believe it (like I did). That's when I learned how important traveling and interhuman connection is.

Unfortunately, historically Turkey has problems with it's neighbour countries. Especially Armenian and Greek imposition is so strong in America, even in France against Turkey and Turkish people. We, the people are not evil beasts all around the world. Even in Turkey, media is so strong to manipulate people. I really hate politics. After Ottoman Empire collapse, the Western ideas unfortunately destroyed many relationships between cultures. Western ideas have created borders, and the borders made people against to each other.. I love Armenian history, Greek history but everyone try to make their borders to be broaden. We did terrible things also(I didnt :), Greeks did terrible things, Armenians did terrible things.. But western ideas, let say Wilson Principles, made everything worse. Millions of muslim poeple were killed, millions of christian poeple were killed in world wars, no one is innocent in history. Turkish culture is mixture of many cultres, it is Anatolian culture and you cannot create any border within this culture.

My own experience was arriving into Istanbul just as a home football team has just won and as a result, my ride from the airport to my guesthouse in Sultanahmet was filled with extremely happy, cheering fans on their way home. It was an intense introduction to the country and my first time ever backpacking alone. I immediately liked Turkish people. It was in Turkey that I also first heard Call to Prayer, and I don’t really know how to describe it, but it was super beautiful and unique because the Blue Mosque was calling to another mosque, and it sounded like they were singing call and response to each other. I think I had tears in my eyes the first time I experienced that one evening. Deeply memorable experience. 🙏

I am very happy to watch such a nice video about my country and thank you for your nice comments. There are too many prejudices about Turkey, even there are people who believe that we are riding camels in Turkey! But I believe these prejudices will end thanks to people like you. As Turkish people, we care and respect the guests from other countries, it is the most important thing for us that they are comfortable and "feel at home". I hope you felt like you were at home. Lots of love from Istanbul.

@@DivertLiving I like this Comment, Why Turkey is not a safe country to travel ? Although reluctantly, we have to admit it: Turkey is not a safe country to travel. Read all about the dangers ahead! . . Risk of an overdose of turquoise With a coastline that spans more than 8,000 kilometers (approximately 5,000 miles), there is an increased risk of ending up at the beach. And those beaches are pristine! And the water is blue. Or worse…, turquoise. Turkey has beaches in all colors of blue. Colors that seem to change every day, depending on the weather, but always blue. So, if you’re not a big fan of blue - and in particular turquoise - stay away from Turkish beaches. You will be annoyed with the crystal clear water and the paradise beaches. In fact, there are so many beaches, that you will be spoiled for choice. Another risk here…, the stress of decision making! You can’t possibly try them all. .... Risk of being immersed in history and culture Turkey is not all about turquoise beaches and pristine bays. The country has a rich history and plenty of ancient sites to show for that. There are ‘ancient stones’ everywhere. Of course, a city like Istanbul is a cultural hub. And sites like Ephesus, Pamukkale, Mount Nemrut or Troy are world famous. The country has 16 sites inscribed on the World Heritage List! But you don’t have to visit those sites to be surrounded by history. It is simply everywhere. The smallest villages have ancient Lycian graves, rock tombs or remains of entire cities or civilizations. You will always be surprised at the amount of history that is just waiting for you to discover it. When in fear of having to deal with the beauty of history or culture when on holiday, you might want to reconsider visiting Turkey! ..... Risk of gaining weight Beware! Turkish food is delicious! And there is food everywhere. Really… Even when you think you’ve just found the most remote and isolated spot in Turkey, someone will be offering you food or tea. And the problem is, this doesn’t just happen to you once. It happens every day. You will spend an entire trip surrounded by food stalls selling delicious (and healthy) street food. You will have to resist countless seaside restaurants serving fresh fish and meze. You will have to refuse complementary fruit plates after your meal or even when enjoying a drink or cocktail on the beach. Oh, and please DO NOT have a Turkish breakfast! It feels like dying and going to heaven. A traditional Turkish breakfast (köy kahvaltısı) is a feast! It is a table full of food, most of the times organic and it will take hours of whiling away the day enjoying those yummies. In short, the dangers of people serving you the tastiest meals are genuine. If you plan on starving yourself, don’t come to Turkey. ..... Risk of making Turkish friends (for life) If you are the “I do not want to meet any local” kind of person, then you’re in trouble when visiting Turkey. Locals LOVE foreigners. They will go out of their way to make you happy. They are so welcoming and hospitable that they would not only feed you or even offer you a bed for the night. They might also be genuinely interested in who you are and what you love about Turkey. You might end up being the guest of honor at a wedding or meet the Muhtar (head of the village) for a cup of tea or Turkish coffee. Another thing…, Turkish people love hitchhikers and even people that are not hitchhiking but seem to have a long road ahead. It is almost part of a tradition. Makes sense, if you own a car and someone doesn’t, why not stop to take them along if you are going the same way? Of even better, why not drive your temporary guests straight to their destination? After all, that’s what being hospitable is all about! Indeed, there is a huge risk in Turkey of bonding with locals and making friends for life. If you feel uncomfortable making new friends, Turkey is not for you. ..... Risk of too much contentment With all the good food, the lovely friendly people, beautiful nature, beaches, and bays and an always present aroma of history and culture, you risk feeling content and happy. Not just for a split second, but the entire time. And that is where the real danger of coming to Turkey lies… You may feel so good in Turkey; you never want to leave again. And if you do manage to drag yourself back home, beware, as you may be back sooner than you think! It’s magic!

A tiny correction: You'll never, ever see *military* guarding somewhere inside big cities like İstanbul, even during times of crisis. What you saw were more than likely to be Police Special Forces. They also wear military-like camuflage and may ride with MRAPs or APCs. Its not uncommon to see them guarding (normally) crowded or touristic areas.

@@selinozgur Cyprus refused USA military bases on Cyprus so the USA planned in 1964 with Turkey to inv*de Cyprus. In 1974 Turkey intervened in Cyprus with the excuse to stop the illegal Greek coup and protect Greek and Turk Cypriots but Turkey invaded instead and occupied 39% of Cyprus since 1974. Turkey instead of protecting the government of Cyprus it inv*ded and occupied. You are the one that should learn history. What happened in Cyprus was because of the cold war.

@@wat4089 Hımm but you did not mentioned the word ENOSIS sorry for my poor Greek but please tell us the meaning of that word. And there was no US military base in Cyprus before, instead there were and still British military bases in the Island (Both in your territory by the way). Also please be aware that there is no cold war anymore.. and in 2004 Greeks the ones who refused reunification.. look my friend; almost 50 years past and you still don't understand that there are two nations in that island and the new generation of both sides do not know each other's language, culture, history and etc. Do you really believe that there can be reunification and one single country again? Let's be realistic, even if Turkis withdraw her army from the island, according to agreement between Greece, UK and Turkey, she always have her rights of guarantor state..
@wat4089
@wat4089 3 года назад
@@selinozgurEnosis means Union. Turkey was used by NATO aka USA because Cyprus refused to have American military bases. The UK bases did not matter to them. They feared that Cyprus would side with the Soviets. Also the British and the USA feared that Cyprus would unite with Greece which that mean that the UK would have to leave Cyprus. The invasion was orchestrated by the USA and UK. Turkey broke the guarantor treaty when they invaded. Cyprus has a majority Greek population and a democracy and we had the right to vote and decide if we want a union with another country but in 1967-1974 we didnt want union because Greece was a dictatorship. In 2004 we said no because that would legitimize the occupation. 2004 annan plan said that there would be 2 federal states. Turkey and Greece would have to maintaine a big military here and the Turk Cypriots which are a minority would have 50% of the government power which is undemocratic. The minority would decide the fate of the majority. Also the plan would allow all illegal Turkish settlers to say which means the majority of the population would be Turkish instead of Turk Cypriot and that legitimizes the occupation too. We would legitimize our ethnic cleansing. You know nothing about Cyprus except propaganda. Turkey has no right to be here without our permission. Its an occupation. Turkey brought hundreds of thousands of illegal mainland settlers and now the Turk Cypriots are a minority, this is a crime against humanity. Turks wilk do what Turks do, steal lands.

Hey Jimmy, I’m glad that you had a wonderful experiences while traveling in Istanbul during COVID-19, I get handed to you that you have a very advantageous spirit considering the lack of normalcy we are all facing during this pandemic 😷 I’m foreigner living in Turkey and I can vouch for you that Turkish people are most hospitable people I have ever met and also most diverse and believe most may be Muslims but absolutely have no Middle Eastern mentality. Couple of correction thought, first there are no military personnel roaming around cities in Turkey, so the uniformed folks you met were all from Turkish Police, the thing is unlike in the US, Turkey has different Police units, quite colorful if you asked me. Second, and this is important, like in any major city if you want buy Gucci products as an example, then just go to any Gucci Store, and believe there are plenty of them in Istanbul, believe me you will find more rip-offs on the streets of New York City than in Istanbul. Fun Facts: Istanbul has bigger and better malls than New York City or London. Istanbul has better and more accessible and on time public transit systems than New York and London. Finally, a friendly advice, if you want make of best of any city or town since you won’t be able to visit whole of Turkey and this applies anywhere else in the World, First and foremost, respect and appreciate local customs, rules and regulations. Keep us posted, keep safe and stay healthy, Cool Running 🏃‍♂️ P.S, Turkish people are quite ethically diverse so if you run to white/blue eyed/blonde or brown or even black Turkish person, just remember this country was a part of an Empire that dominated much of the world for so long and way before Mayflower docked in New England.

@irdelemektenoturu1024
@irdelemektenoturu1024 3 года назад
@@Frenchified They are not abandoned animals. They are cats and dogs born somewhere in nature or in the city, just like birds, insects, squirrels. They have lived naturally outside homes for centuries. In addition, pets are not living things that have come into existence spontaneously in the home environment. They have lived in nature throughout history and today people have adopted animals that can be kept at home. The fact that there are no cat and dog-like animals in your country, in the city or in nature does not mean that they cannot live outside. Also, many of our people help these animals. Do not try to blindly smear a country without knowing it. Turkey is a beautiful country. The bad person is bad everywhere. There can be ignorant people in any country. If you care about animals that much, speak out against those who produce new cat breeds that human beings have created according to their own aesthetic ideas, and those who play with the genetics of animals and turn it into a breeding frenzy. Because by doing this, you look like a hater towards Turkey. Finally, I would like to say that you can research the love of animals in Turkish history. For example, birdhouses and animal rights archival documents in the Ottoman Empire...

Been going there back and forth for almost 15 yrs when we decided to buy a house unfortunately the pandemic happened. I love Turkey to bite. Yeeah you'll meet a lot of scammers specially these days cos of the pandemic but the worst are the taxi carefully your check your banknotes and insist on paying only what it shows but now I think there's Uber in Turkey so it's better. I gotcha ya when Everytime I ask my friends from the USA to meet there they were sceptical n I say same thing there's attacks everywhere we can die. Until they visit they were blown away since I know every corner in İstanbul and where to have fun. Turkish people are really awesome because they are different they are open and friendly!! My friends in Turkey are amazing they never let me pay for anything or let me go to my hotel room without making sure I'm safe. Honestly I feel safe in istanbul it's clean it's cheaper people are super friendly toilets are awesome and clean and the urban architecture is just breath taking. Turkey has a no-kill and no-capture policy towards their stray animals, and a long history with animal protection and care. They just simply LOVE animals. Cats, Birds, Dogs.. any animal will be treated with respect since it's part of the islam to love all living creatures. Even slaughtering animals for food requires them to pray for the sacrifice.

Why is safety debated so much when it comes to Turkey? In my 24 years of living here, I have never felt unsafe. Never had anyone jump me or rob me. Most dangerous thing I had happen to me was a homeless young guy trying to look intimidating and demanded money on a busy street once and he just left once I disclosed I didn't have any cash on me. Just don't visit notoriously dangerous places and light up a joint in a public area and you should be fine.
