lol i grew up here and went to the schools here, i've always described it as a eye of the storm, its pretty chill here nothing to crazy but you are surrounded by craziness and god knows what which in my mind is great because theres always shit to do.
Culver City is the real Hollywood. The studios are here and there are landmarks like the Culver Hotel where movie history happened. Great outdoor cafes and shopping. The Culver City Car Show is a must-see and there are events throughout the year. Yes, the homeless are a problem and you just have to take the good with the bad.
Thanks we visited California twice before Covid and fell in love with Culver City. We stayed in Marina del ray but Culver City stole my heart. It reminds me of where I live now in Evanston IL. Thanks for the informative video. I will check your other’s out as well.
Nice! I was thinking of visiting Culver City but now I'm rethinking with the homelessness you mentioned. I'm a solo black female traveler so I'm keeping my safety a big priority! Great, informative video.
Hi Rosa. It's not ALL of Culver City that has the homelessness issue. It's still worth taking a look at but I definitely understand that your safety is a top priority. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you found the information useful.
Wow! Good to know about the sales tax, that's insane to me (coming from New Hampshire where there is no sales tax!) Appreciate all of the info in this video, thank you!
I left in 96 don't miss it at all , I looked up my old address house looks the same as it did when I sold it was shocked to see 1.9 price tag on it now mind you I sold it at $180,000 but it only cost $23,000 less than my car . When I lived there you couldn't go to culver high If you were black the cops would come . i'm not black but my friends were so it was a problem . I personaly think it's over priced for what it is but I guess thats becauce I now live in a home with 5.5 acres and only paid what I sold my house for when I left ,wouldn't go back to commiefornia if they gave me a house and free taxes for life .
Lived as a child in Culver City 67 - 76. Then our family moved to Torrance. Both cities were very comparable then. Moved back to greater LA to be near my dad whose 92. I know what you mean. When we say, LA suburbs had it's better days.
I love this city but noticed there are high concentrations of homeless in Culver City, especially on Venice Blvd. I can only think of two explanations: 1) City gave up trying to solve the problem. 2) Authorities are intentionally directing homeless into certain areas so they can be contained/monitored. One even set up a legit woodshed and been living there for over a year now, Venice Blvd/Dunn Dr.
Yeah, I moved to Culver City back in 2009 and began seeing the influx of homeless people at the underpass of Venice and the 405. First it was on the north side, then it started on the south side of the street. The police forced them back over to the north side, but I haven't been over there for a while so that might have changed again. Sad :(
I am on the other side of Venice Blvd. The woodshed vanished when I looked last week. That was a construction marvel and eyesore. It must have happened recently. The homeless tenant at the S&F corner also vanished. I was shocked. He was living there for at least five months.
Culver City is 4.9 square miles and has about 39,000 residents. I have owned my condo in Culver City since 1996 not in Fox Hills area though. My children attended both the schools you mentioned. I love it here but I live in a gated community that has many amenities parking, pools ,clubhouse play areas etc. and the way people are now gated is the only way to have peace of mind in any city quite frankly. I don’t mind that the people are leaving there are too many here anyway.
It is definitely becoming far more densely populated. And the parking issue was a hug headache for us on certain days when we were working from home or entertaining many guests.
Moved here in 2011 in Fox Hills. Everything is convenient. CCHS is a very good high school both my children attended. My son was racially profiled leaving the skate park one day, which since makes him scared of the police. Those are my pros and cons as an African American professional living here.
I grew up in CulverCity, as for my Family 3 generation before me. I love CulverCity but the Police are as Racist as it gets. I'm sorry you son had to go threw that.
I grew up across the street from Culver City. Trust me, t's safe. I used to walk down Washington Blvd at 1am. That was about 10 years ago. And maybe it's not the same because of the rise in homelessness. But I still go from time to time to chill. He's right about the red light traffic tickets. So I've herd. I've never gotten one but it's notorious. Overall, I love CC.
We just drove down Venice to show our kids the old neighborhood they lived in. I was shocked to find the homeless encampments are now on the south side of the street. It is definitely not like it was 10 years ago...and I moved there in 2009. Sad!
