I just hope everyone on the coast was alright. I guess I'm lucky to live in an area I that has no flooding 😥

This will always happen when people build on flood plains, also you can never build a wall high enough there will always be a super storm to take the water over the top. Just don't buy a home near a river or below the level that it would flood. Great coverage C4.

Carlisle isn't below sea level though
@PurdyBear1

Charlie Lewis Flash floods aren't connected to the sea. It's water running off higher ground to lower levels. I'm above sea level, but its been up to the second floor windows here just in a flash flood.

These are new flood zones never flooded before now they are and these houses are 100-200 year old

It is not that the UK has not suffered from floods before (we are a very wet country.) The main problem is it's getting worse every time there is a flood - probably due to rising sea levels.

Surely there comes a point when the cost to the nation and the individuals of living on a historic flood plain (or tornado alley in the US) makes it ridiculous to keep moving back in?

Any MP that says this is because of CO2 should be put out of work as they have said NO to solar panels and tree planting on my own land in Dorset. :(

Why can't the House of Commons impeach David Cameron and charge him? He has not helped the situation at all and now all these affected people have lost everything, you are in our hearts and thoughts during this time

Do a RU-vid search 'UK floods' and you will find that there were floods in 2011,2012, 2013, 2014, 2015. Nothing new here. It rains a lot in the UK.
@Meekseek
@Meekseek 8 лет назад
+Frank Blangeard And if you do a search you will find geoengineering has been modifiying the weather globally and has been steppted up for the years you posted, so nice of you to blame the viticms, thses floods are not natural. Look up and see the constant aircraft leaving chemtrails.
@frankblangeard8865
@frankblangeard8865 8 лет назад
+Meekseek If that is true, who is doing the geoengineering and why? California is in severe drought and the Mississippi valley is flooding regularly. It doesn't seem like the United States would do this to itself. So who...?

If the young lad is correct, this happens every 5 years or so , does that mean the property value would be low?

There is only so much flood protection you can give at the end of the day sadly, we need to realize storm's are only going to get worse and we should be looking at buildings which can raise if an area floods, look at the Netherlands they build house which can float on water.

Unlike most other countries, I wonder why the UK doesn't have a high death toll if there's flooding? In a lot of countries, the death toll often reaches well over the hundreds mark if it floods.

The Inca were masters of erosion control, the steps on their roads were for erosion control not to make it easier. Take their strategy, slow flow everywhere it's accelerating with micro-terracing, this is raking rocks into a small dam where rivulets form on hillsides that shed water too easily, slow it there and it can't gain volume so fast to flood the towns so quickly. Terracing against flow is the only practical strategy and it takes people doing it that see where to make them, start at the top of the hill and follow the rill all the way. A comment on what's going on, these are not "storms" like the past following a sinuous jetstream that had west-to-east flow, they are air-masses flowing between semi-stationary bound vortexes, the center of the "storm", and they are huge, 2,000km in diameter seen best on earth.nullschool.net/

+Tom Mallard Tom, it seems likely to me that our landscape and stormwater engineers have a vastly superior grip on this stuff than the Aztecs did. Perhaps there are factors in this equation that are not analogous? I suspect there's something of a difference between preventing localised HILLSIDES from eroding because you want to farm them, and countering the effects off mass waterfall over hundreds of square miles of more or less flat land. Not only would it be impractical to terrace on such a scale, but IF much of it was arable, that would greatly impede industrial farming.
