I personally find Saltbaker to be much harder. I did both on expert mode btw. The new converge shot is a downright counter to the Devil's 3rd phase, which I personally think is usually his hardest.
For me it was the opposite, I've yet to reply the devil with the new weapons but I remember taking an eternity before i could beat the devil, mean while the baker I beat with in a day
Honestly, I liked the battle against Saltbaker a lot more, he seems much more charismatic, has beautiful animation, extremely high difficulty and epic music (I'm not saying that the devil's music is bad, quite the contrary, it's one of the amazing songs made by Kristofer Maddigan) Besides, what makes the battle more epic is the twist, since not everyone expected him to be a villain (I was one of those)
I found the devil fight way harder (I’ve only beat them two on regular) and ngl to me he always looked like an evil character but still was a little surprised when he was evil
I prefer saltbaker as he felt more climactic than the devil. I like both, but chef saltbakers theme just screams "final boss" more than the devils does

It's actually quite easy to identify the plot of him being evil, I was one of those who found it predictable, but overall I agree with you
I personally will always like the Devil fight more. Strictly on an aesthetic level cause the vibe is just so damn badass. The color palette and the artwork are just out of this world. Saltbaker be lookin like a Disney villain.
@@RudeViking i can’t articulate very well what I mean by him specifically looking like a Disney character. I know what you mean lol but there’s something too goofy and childish about saltbaker. The devil, you’re like literally in hell fighting the devil and it’s just so much cooler.
@@flipdiesel9652 haha you know I've been reading a lot of comments comparing both and one thing I've always seen is that people say The Devil is the goofy looking one. I just found it interesting
Saltbaker is preferable for me, but Devil is also good in its own way, I really like variety in main baddies here. I also was worried that Saltbaker would have connections with the Devil, and he will be just a pawn for him (especially after secret boss reveal). Really glad that it wasn’t the case.
He may not have been a pawn, but he may have been inspired by the devil without him knowing. Specifically, when Saltbaker is singing is song during the epilogue, he says "The recipe that was in my book,..." meaning that he found in the cookbook and did not write it in the book. I wouldn't be surprised if the devil disguised himself and gave the book to the chef, whether the chef bought it or something similar, the chef would have heard of Ms. Chalice through news of cuphead and mugman's super attacks, and the dominos could have fallen from there. But that's just a theory.
I think even without Ms Chalice Saltbaker is in general a harder boss. Not to discount the Devil cause he is a pretty tough fight but Chef Saltbaker just takes it to another level with his constant barrage of ingredients in his first phase to the point where the game becomes a bullet hell. Devil on the other hand has some tricky attacks but never does anything thats super chaotic until you get to his third phase with the minions and falling casino chips.
@@DrMostlySane i disagree since alot of the devils attacks come from a vertical angle which allows chalices dodge roll to completely make the fight a joke
Salt baker is clearly superior. He was seen as a good guy, but when you get to his fight, it becomes kind of gruesome, especially with cuphead's cry for help
I hate to be that guy but the character that's in the glass container depends on what character is in the astral realm. So it could be Cuphead, Mugman, or Ms. Chalice.
Yeah I lost an S rank on Cagney because I forgot to S rank him and went in with ms chalice but then parry my 3rd super spear then double jumped then went out of bounds and hit a damage barrier and less then 5 seconds after he died and I had lost my S rank because of that
Chalice makes the devil a cakewalk even on expert mode. Her double jump + dash are great for the 1st phase and her super art 1 works amazingly for the devil
Everyone under-estimates the power of Art 3. It's probably the strongest one in the game, with it's ability to just give you a card back, as well as being able to hit the boss on every hitbox. (AKA, doubling the damage on Ribity and Croaks, The Devil, Tipsy Crew, 3rd phase of Phantom Express, Glumstone's second phase, just to nae a few I think of, off the top of my head.
Saltbaker is definitely the hardest to me because all of his phases never lets up with the attacks. For The Devil, as soon you get to his final phase, you pretty much won the fight.
@@Wattson19 actually his attacks are semi rng. I’ve seen the animal crackers come out before any other one. However the strawberries are always last. Kinda weird how it works
I think the Devil fight is tame and underwhelming compared to the latter tbh. Chef Saltbaker’s animations straight up give me goosebumps. Specially considering you see him murder all these cute little characters Sausage-Party-Style in his first phase.
I personally think the devil was harder. The reason why: limited mobility. Unlike Saltbaker, the Devil limits where you can stand as you go. You start off with the whole screen, then five platforms, and he takes away two platforms each stage. So, the area you can move around with gets smaller and smaller, making it easier to hit you. Saltbaker only really limits where you can go in the final stage, in which there's no projectiles, you just have to keep climbing and shooting and parrying his heart. That, and the goat arms attack the devil has a relatively small window to jump and dash to not get hit if you're playing it without Ms. Chalice, which most of us had to. It's not too difficult, but if you're not ready for it, it'll get you. Not to mention the devil's final stage where you have to dodge the falling chips by either parrying the tears or jumping to the side and dashing back. That said, I kinda like Saltbaker more anyways. The atmosphere, the music, the animation, and the themed attacks just feel so fun.
Yeah but the attacks were easier even though there were less platforms, saltbaker has more room to move but there is a lot of things coming at you at once especially in the first phase. It is much easier to keep track of what is happening in the devil fight than saltbakers, that’s why I personally think it’s harder.
@@Pokeyyyyyy no he has basically the same amount of prodjectiles but chef saltbaker is only the DLC boss whereas the devil is the whole game boss so the devil was designed to be more hard just in general they are both quite hard though
The Devil took a lot longer for me to take down so I'd say he's harder. Also I like him more. He's just chillin and confident in the beginning and then cries in the end which is so ironic I love it
@@הערוץנמחק-ר1ק well before entering the fight the devil asks if you will join his side. most players press A to begin the fight, but if you go right first and then press A you say “yes” and instantly win.
The problem with The Devil is that if you take damage on his 1st phase, it will be difficult for you on his 3rd phase, because there's too much happening on the screen and you'll have difficulties on dodging. Saltbaker for me wasn't that hard for me, his 1st phase, even through there's a lot of projectiles on the screen, they're easy to dodge, it's not that bullet hell that Devil's 3rd phase is. Saltbaker 2nd and 3rd phases are easy, but his 4th phase it's tricky, if you don't pay attention, you can get cornered and get hit. I think that's the reason he's parrible, to make it easier to dodge him. Overall, i think that The Devil is harder and more charismatic than Chef Saltbaker.
With Saltbaker, the first 2 phases are hell, endless projectiles coming your way, the last 2 are kinda easy, but those first two phases alone are more difficult than all of most of Cupheads bosses, including the Devil.
Saltbaker is WAY harder (The only way I beat him on Regular was because the game glitched while I had my invincibility during his 2nd Phase Transition, and It stayed for the whole fight) Later I felt guilty about Beating Saltbaker that way so eventually I beat him normally
Both bosses are equal in: 1.- Being sinister 2.- Being evil 3.- Have a great energy of finishing Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Chalice. In my opinion, both bosses are equal in difficulty, although The Devil lastes less in battle, and Chef Saltbaker 20 seconds more than him.
saltbaker is way more evil than the devil. the devil is collecting on debts and wants your soul to make you his minion. he attacks by hitting you and sending demons to attack you. saltbaker wants to consume mugman's soul (essentially erasing him from existence) so he can become all powerful. he attacks you by murdering the island's residents and throwing the corpses at you...
@@fandroid6491 bruh your simping for a literal bubble guy if it's the human fanart of him i sorta understand but..yeah i don't get how ppl can simp for some of the most weird things and still think it's reasonable.
Saltbaker had a lot more going on in terms of distractions. Devil: pay attention to minion placements, then dodge ether a spell or the devil doing something, with some platforming at the end. Saltbaker: Have to deal with and squeeze your way through many different attacks going all at once, all while a living flame is chasing you. Then fight while on moving platforms.
I love the fact that with multiple bosses in this game, including Saltbaker and (in the DLC gravestone level) the Devil, the whole point is to fight the character for their soul, but even upon killing certain characters, they STILL won't give up their soul, even after they've been literally killed already. The earliest example in the game is actually Goopy Le Grande, seeing as his third stage is a gravestone for himself...
I'll say, Saltbakers first phase is really hectic with all its projectiles going everywhere but the other phases are really not that hard(but not easy). The Devil all of his phases are ok but not easy, if the second phase was a bit longer and consist atleast 2 more attacks like the axe and bomb aren't a threat at all. It's third phase is also not that hard(but not easy). But Unlike Saltbaker there's alot of projectiles in its first phase but it's less as the other phases go. Devil in the other hand there isn't too much in the screen in all of his phases.
I'm not sure which is better but I have to say when I first saw Chef Saltbaker's battle I was stunned by the animation. It was really smooth, clean, fluid and crisp. The animators did a really good job with the DLC.
I think the devil maintains a pretty consistent level of difficulty, save for maybe the final phase. Salt baker's first phase is the hardest phase between the two bosses, but his phases get gradually easier as you go.
I like the salt baker one because they added so much great animation to his attacks and himself as well plus there is so much going on as well in just makes you in zone and that music too is so damn good some goes with the Knock out music when you defeat him that shows your victory and all the hard work you build up to get that knock out his knock out music is much more different than the other bosses because of the success that you manage to do in order to defeat him that’s why he is one of the best boss battles
It felt very much like many games in which a mortal man who has found ultimate power is deemed more dangerous than the devil. Chef Saltbaker is functionally a Necromancer who seeks power over death itself, probably after being corrupted by the secret recipe.
I think I’m terms of pure animation and such, Saltbaker’s first two phases are great but he loses most of his intimidation as the fight goes on, while the Devil’s second and third phases up the terrifying, which I like
I can't stop laughing when looking at the thumbnail of this video. I mean the Devil looks like: Damn you Saltbaker and chef Saltbaker was like: You mad bro? Considering everyone will pretty much say chef Saltbaker is better than the Devil :))
For difficulty, while i was fighting the devil, and shortly afterwards chef saltbaker (Both with DLC) on regular, i found The devil a little bit harder than the chef. Both of them were challenging and looked badass so thats a plus!
I used to think the Devil fight bordered on being unfair. With Chalice firing the crack shot, it “broke” a lot of the devil’s shenanigans like the clapping feet and the teardrops.
Virgin Devil: Has some random ass trident Cries in the last phase Is the devil Chad Saltbaker: Chops up Limes Brutally Hammers a nail into sugar brutally Rolls dough and shapes them brutally Steals strawberries from basket *”BRUTALLY”* Steals Cuphead/Chalice’s Soul Makes the mother of all omelettes Refuses to elaborate further
Personally I think Devil is more of an harder fight, it’s it’s more of Hard bullet hell and a test to reaction time and pattern recognizing them over coming gimmicks since In the SaltBaker fight there’s no changes to keep you on your toes most of the time.
No changes. A fight that takes place in three different sceneries, a fight where you have to shoot other enemies to make them damage the boss, all with a track where certain parts are programmed to play at certain phases. *WHAT WERE YOU SAYING ABOUT NO CHANGES AGAIN?!?!*
It’s not as hard for both of them when you know what your doing but salt baker is more about chaos and how to manage through while devil is about learning the patterns one at a time as supposed to all at once but for saltbaker you learn fast since it’s all at once chaos
I struggled more with devil mainly because i was still new to the game, i do think salt man is more difficult over all But hot damn salt bakers fight is so much more fun to me, the animation throughout had me laughing with the widest grin the whole time 10/10 would struggle again
Чувак, ты неправильно используешь супер-атаку от Spread. Нужно подпрыгнуть, направиться к глазу, а когда уже в глазе полностью, то используешь супер-атаку!
The devil has a lot of unfair attacks at his last phases so I’ll give it to him for being harder. But for being more menacing chef saltbaker takes it away.
Okay okay so many people (so far) like Saltbaker more then the Devil himself so, I got to say my opinion even tho you didn’t ask. By far Saltbaker fight is harder, so many flying at you and constant movement! But the Devil beats Saltbaker by map design! I just think fighting someone in hell is more aesthetically pleasing then in the back of a bakery then some kind of salt realm. I just thought this would be fun to talk about if you agree or argue. Tell me why if you want!
@@johnnyboynumber2315 I could live with that, what is next for these guys like a new game or project? Also thanks for letting me that. Lastly Chef Salt-Baker's boss theme sounds like a RPG final boss theme.
honestly when comparing these two bosses, Chef Saltbaker looks like the final boss of a sequel, kinda just shows how different every boss looks, it's so great!
If you think about it, if you were to try to fight chef saltbaker, it’d probably be the most painful thing imagined since his glass container’s chards would cut you and salt would get all over it.
A comparison between them really isn't fair considering when they were made. They could reference and improve Saltbaker but they went in blind for the Devil. I personally like both for different reasons.
The Devil is literally SATAN HIMSELF. Chef: uh who asked? Edit: The devil is the OG final boss but chef baker is some-what...hard?..i mean its not as hard as the devil..kind of but i would consider the devil stronger than chef saltbaker
While I like the original Devil fight, the Saltbaker fight is a major step up as a final boss. The fact that instead of you descending deeper into Inkwell Hell and fighting a colossal-sized Devil, you are transported to an otherworldly arena that is comprised of Saltbaker's mere essence was remarkable and disturbing at the same time. Studio MDHR have really outdone themselves with this DLC!
Not only I humiliated him and put him In his place, but even toke his dirty fur and made Devil cake out of It and *force feed ANYONE* who didn't like me.
So many differences between the two but both are fiendishly good bosses. The Devil: -Color scheme is primarily black or dark colors -Battle theme is more jazzy and upbeat -Second phase transition involves going down -Outwardly evil from the start -Final phase involves Devil crying pitifully -Actively goes after both/all players' souls Chef Saltbaker: -Color scheme is primarily white or light colors -Battle theme is more orchestral and ominous -Second phase transition involves going up -Initially appears beneficial, only to prove extremely manipulative -Final phase involves heart defiantly fighting to the end -Captures the soul of the player who _isn't_ currently active (Chalice if no cookie is used, otherwise whoever doesn't have the cookie equipped)
This is from someone who has never played Cuphead. (I chose Saltbaker.) First stage- Saltbaker. The devil does have some hard things, but Saltbaker takes the cake by having much more at a time. You don’t get a break. You need to keep you’re eyes on the stuff coming at you, but all his movement can draw someone’s eyes to him. Making a cheap hit. The devil does not have too much happening in the background, other than that purple demon. He also doesn’t move. Saltbaker seems to always be on the move and annoying to hit. Second Stage- Devil. Saltbaker has a lot less happen to the player. Herbs and sneezing pepper/salt containers. (Along with some others.) Devil, however, makes you have to look in the front and the back. His eyes tells you a next move, while other objects come flying to you! Let’s also cover how you don’t have free range like Saltbaker. You depend on platforms that crumple. Less places to dodge. Third stage- Saltbaker. Sure, you have more platforms. But now you have to avoid or parry the heart. You also must keep moving (like the queen bee boss) and avoid enemies. Simply the fact that it’s moving around makes you on you’re toes. All you have to do is jump and turn around for Devil. Saltbaker is also longer.
tbh i kind of struggled with the devil fight more than with saltbaker. Because once you get past saltbakers first phase its pretty much done already from a difficulty standpoint and ms chalice and the new weapons make it a walk in the park.
Saltbaker give me so much Pinocchio vibes, the smiles and the eyes make me remember the scene where the kids are used and transformed in donkey, true child fear
I will say i had more trouble with chef salt baker because of the bullet hell on the screen. While devil’s attacks were easier to learn, chef salt baker always was one step ahead of my eyes secretly sending a bullet right at me damaging me without warning. Chef salt baker was also a very tough boss in all taking a while to kill salt baker after all the pain. Not to mention the secret saw blade during the salt twins phase being absolute pain. Even with claice it took me i would say 43 tries because of the first phase along with the 3rd somehow getting me every time
I feel like compared against each other The devil is a little bit harder if you are playing as Cuphead or as Mugman rather then Ms.Chalice. If you are playing as Ms.Chalice Chef Saltbaker is harder I'd say
I honestly think the devil suffers here because both Mrs. Chalice and the new shots have so much more different play styles to the original game. Like the crack shot is sooo good.
