So the bugged simple mode bosses: Levels have "level properties" which describe information such as the health of the boss, attacks the boss uses, the health thresholds for each phase, the patterns of the attacks and the parameters of each attack. It's a little messy but it offers a lot of fine tuning potential. These properties are populated through a function which checks the current difficulty and sets up the level properties accordingly. Some bosses check the difficulty in other places too but that's not important when it comes to this bug I don't think. The thing is, while not all bosses have easy mode versions, they *do* still get their properties populated in modes that are not normal or hard. These defaults of course are pretty much nothing. Their patterns array is always just populated with nothing but their first pattern, their health is set to 100, their state is always set to their default "main" state and all of their attacks are just initialised with values of 0. Unless I missed one, there is one exception to this which is the Dice Palace dominoes level. This guy *does* have a pattern set up for easy mode because all of this modes just use the same copypasted pattern (2 bouncy balls, boomerang, 3 bouncy balls, boomerang). His attacks are still initialised mainly with just nothing values however (except for the projectile types for the bouncy ball attack). He just has an empty string for the parameter which he normally reads to determine height adjustment though so he just stays lodged in the ground. Side notes on unused/cut/DLC bosses: The code for clam, crab, jelly and stork is present. Clam has attack coding and has a spitting attack and one where they spawn barnacles. Crab's attacks revolve around barnacles, gems and bubbles but there's no actual attack coding set up. Jelly has no attacks listed and no attack coding. Stork has a spiral shot and an attack based around babies but once again no actual coding. The Bat seems pretty complete and has a lot of attacks. Bouncing shots, goblins and mini bats just to name a few. The retro arcade level also has a lot of coding finished and seems like it'll be a pretty unique level, possibly just a side-challenge thing. It has a bunch of different enemies, caterpillar, robots, UFO, aliens and a few more. Some of them are marked as bosses. You have a score that's tracked through the level that you get for killing enemies + an accuracy bonus. There's a big Cuphead and Mugman that animate actually pushing buttons on the arcade machine based on your inputs. It also seems to have custom handling for weapons. Note that all of this is based on the legacy version of the game so some stuff might have updated since then, I dunno! I'll check later probably.

That final saber thing actually can explain how boss phases work after death, considering that exact saber only spawns if you enter that portion of the screen in phase 1, to keep you from camping behind the genie. maybe by killing the boss, or because you killed the boss early, you tricked it into thinking it was phase one while it died?
