The train galloping like a horse is something I'll never forget

I like how the passengers are like “wow, good show.”

Am I the only one to think that the little ghost passengers are adorable when they look around ?

ALL WE HAD TO DO WAS FOLLOW THE DAMN TRAIN CUPHEAD!!

One of my favorite bosses. Creative, varied, and the perfect balance of difficulty.

For everyone wondering what the third phase of the train is supposed to be, my best guess is that they're supposed to be sentient old-fashioned Railway Switches. Old switches that were used to change which rails the train would travel on were typically round. It would also explain why they're able to shoot electricity since technically they're mechanical/electrical and were usually accompanied by traffic lights. It would notify the conductor which rail he was about to switch off onto. It's kind of like the equivalent of an intersection for locomotives.

That's a really creative boss, having to parry with the cart for you to dodge attacks.

In intro, it said that the cupheads found themselves on the wrong side of the tracks in the casino. In game, you need to cross this railway to get there. Nice detail.

fun fact: there’s a Thomas and Friends episode named The Phantom Express.

The Phantom Express had been spoken of in folk tales and campfire songs for years. Yet none believed it actually existed. A train with no driver, ferrying the souls of the doomed on their way to the afterlife--except it never truly stopped, and those who boarded were bound to the train for eternity. Short of running people over or luring them inside, however, the restless spirits had few ways of adding to their collective, and there was only so much time the spirits could tolerate not having any "new blood" aboard. The Devil sought out this mystical train and made an offer to the souls who rode the rails: the train would be enchanted further, and spiteful specters would be introduced to slay the islanders (thus adding souls to the Phantom Express's cars), but if the train were ever to stop, the Devil would claim _every_ last soul on board. The train had never stopped before, and it never would, so foolishly the ghosts and ghouls agreed to the Devil's ludicrous terms. A skeletal conductor who towered over the train, an eyeless ghost to paralyze their victims with fright, and two tall-necked demons to drag the innocent to their doom...if this didn't make the Phantom Express something to be feared, then nothing would. And an influx of souls was imminent...

This game... just 10/10

The 1930s cartoon influence is very strong in this level (mostly because a lot of late 1920s, early 1930s cartoons had a lot of scenes at night featuring creepy things like ghosts, ghouls, and skeletons [Swing You Sinners and The Skeleton Dance are great examples]).

I heard a lot of people speaking about the difficulty of this boss prior to fighting it personally, but I ended up really enjoying this fight. Great spectacle with a fun gimmick and some difficult but fair attacks.

I drew every phantom train character in one paper and it looks so damn cool.

Tip for anyone stuck on this level Get auto parry (or don't, if your good enough to parry) and stand at the very left of the screen, the pumpkins will try to drop pink bricks on the right of the railcart, all you have to do is auto parry the left bumper of the cart before the brick hits, as there is a delay timer. Constantly shoot basic shot (blue shots) at the ghost and he will die real quick. This helped me get past the first segment ezpz

This is my favorite boss. The cartoons and the music are so good! The background also looks very cool, man i love this boss fight.

The members of the phantom express are based on Yokai from Japanese mythology for example: Blind specter=tenome T-bone=gashadokuro The blaze brothers=mikoshi nyūdū rokurokubi and nukekubi And The head of the train=oboroguruma

God I love this game

Did anyone notice the number 4561 written on the cab of the head? That's actually a €%#*ing number of a Lego train set!

It's still amazing how I was able to beat this guy without taking a hit, especially the last part. That was actually a fun portion of the fight.

What's the advantage of riding the Phantom Express? It lifts your spirits.

The number that appears in the train cabin at 1:57 (4561) is also the number of the Lego city train set. I died when I realised that.

To those having trouble with this boss, I️ found the best combo is roundabout for the first phase, and charge shot for phases 2-4

How the hell did a train make a damn deal with the devil???

Individually speaking, there are bosses with cooler designs, more versatile attack patterns, even better music. But in my opinion, *none* of them congeal together as well as the Phantom Express.

I finally realized why the train is galloping. Trains are called “Iron Horses”, and what do horses do?.. Gallop

Interesting detail to note is that even though this isn't a cargo train it has a caboose car. Cabooses were almost never used on passenger trains.
