Pierre Creamer was a coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 1987/88 season. It was an adventure that many who experienced it would like to forget. This video is in dedication to one of the worst fits for a head coach the NHL has seen, and maybe will for a while to come.
If you'll excuse me, I'm off to go make bicycle.

@@ckendall67 Between the race down to the wire in the Patrick ( the Devils went 7-0-1 to beat out the Rangers and Penguins )and the tank bowl turned playoff race in the Norris 87-88 was one of the more unpredictable regular seasons of the decade which saw very static league standings. The playoffs that year were also insane in that the Devils went all the way to the conference finals in their first-ever playoff appearance, Boston finally won a playoff series against Montreal, and then there were the controversial moments in the last two rounds such as the doughnut incident and replacement ref fiasco in games 3/4 of the Wales Conference finals and then the power outage in game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals and the NHL's decision to move right on to a game 5 in Edmonton.

Dan Frawley ended up going from Pittsburgh down to the AHL team in Rochester, where he earned a spot in the Amerks Hall of Fame. He liked it here enough to come out of retirement twice. Also, guess who was the coach in Sherbrooke when the Canadiens blew a 3-2 series lead and lost Games 6 and 7 of the AHL Calder Cup finals at home to those Amerks before trying his luck in the NHL? No hints, now....

I didn't know that he was a coach for the Penguins. Then again I didn't start following hockey until 1988, and even then I was still trying to figure it all out.

On that classic Lemieux goal he was tackled by future teammate Larry Murphy. I imagine they had a laugh over a glass of wine.

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that the Penguins hired David Quinn as an assistant coach. Ya know, the guy who led the Rangers and Sharks to hell? Yeah that guy. Have fun Penguins!

I know it's going to take immense effort to produce, but ever since that "half-century of failure" Maple Leafs video, I've been hoping for a video diving deeply into just how EVIL a human being Harold Ballard was.

It does make one wonder what would have been if DeBartolo didn't veto the Moog trade. Esposito wound up trading for Tom Barrasso the next year, but would the Penguins have made the playoffs with Moog in goal? He was certainly a better and more consistent option than Guenette, Meloche, Riggin and Pieterangelo.

What's funny is that my father went to a high school reunion yesterday and coach Creamer was there (he coached him for 3 years) and said to the people around him that "he was a hell of a player!" He ended up just playing 12 games in the QMJHL 😅

I'm old enough to remember all of this vividly. Just to give you an idea how much a joke the Pens were, there was a major newspaper whose sports section routinely referred to the Pens as the "Penquins." Yes, that's the letter 'Q;' yes, I wrote them about it; no, they didn't stop doing it, because no one gave a damn about hockey in the 80s, much less Penguins hockey. Jerseys? You wanted a jersey? You had to mail order it from a Canadian company and then wait three months because it took them that long to procure one because no one cared enough about the Pens to keep them in stock.
