The Curia Iulia is one of the best-preserved monuments in the Roman Forum. It was constructed as an inaugurated space (temple) to accommodate the Roman Senate inside. What you see is a rebuilding after the fire of AD 283 of the Curia built by Augustus. The Curia was converted into a church 7C AD, then freed of the accreted Church architecture in the Fascist era.

Fantastic. Thank you. Of ALL Roman monuments surviving, this is by far my most favorite--what it stands for, and how fabulously it has survived while all others went down--except the Pantheon. I am so baffled, however, that you guys dont show anything from the inside of the buildings. Even I got inside; i am sure you guys would have too, had you got the permit. Next time, hopefully

Thank you very much! It's not been open daily to the public for sometime, but we were recently there (in early March)- so we'll happily share it in the future. It's being used for press conferences of @parcocolosso so it's filled with chairs. But the late antique pavement is partially visible. The anaglypha traiani are inside (just google the term), too.

The Cvria Ivlia is built over the old Cvria Cornelia , itself built over the Cvria Hostilia , which is where the ancient tribes of the Lativm vowed fealty to Romvlvs and where the Senate first congregated .It is essentially the Birthplace/Cradle of Latin Culture and Civilization .God , I yearn to be there .

I have a question:- was it originally a multifloored building inside? Obviously it had an impressive ground/main floor, but did it also have internal areas, like a basement, and a 1st and maybe a 2nd floor?

Just one floor. Massive vertical effect. Read some Vitruvius- the dimensions are pretty standard for public buildings.

The music makes this unwatchable.
