My watermelon peperomia hated me. I gave up on it and banished it to the low light corner of the room expecting it to die and the darn thing sprang back. Now it is living its best life on a low light shelf where I also forget to water it.

Great video! Noticed your humidifier is at 75%! That’s insane! I’ve got the same one and I can’t get it above 60% in England and when it is at 60% it’s like living with blurred vision because it’s so misty in my flat haha

You might want to add a pothos cutting in the water. Pothos signal the cuttings to root them faster. Just a suggestion.☺️

thank you so so much this video has been so helpful!! i'm hoping to try to cut up an english ivy vine to eventually make my plant more full. i've been putting it off cause i'm scared i'll mess it up since i lost a vine a month or so ago and don't have very much plant left. but now i feel a little more confident propagating it so thanks so much!! xx

Rewatching this as I’m going to propagate my philo! Have you ever used root hormones and planted directly in soil? Interested to try that
@wildfern
@wildfern 3 года назад
I have not tried but I would be interested to. I plan on doing some propagation experiments in different mediums soon, so maybe I will try that one too.

What humidifier do you use? Do you suggest it? I have been on the hunt for a humidifier but I don’t know where to start!

I use one from Elechomes and I love it. I have a video on it from awhile back.

Wow, I was just wanting to learn how to do this. I am going to try to revive part of my baby spider plant. Do you know if the plants being propagated in water need extra light? And if tap or purified water makes a difference?
@wildfern
@wildfern 4 года назад
I've only ever used tap water and it works just fine :) I give them the same light as the parent plant, you could increase it a bit though!

My philodendron erubscens has aerial roots that are 5 inches long. Do I still need to root them in water?

I have propogated lemon lime philodendron directly in soil each one having just one leaf . It has been one week and I kept soil moist all time. Out of 6 leaves cuttings, 2 of them died due to rot. For upcoming what shall I do ? Shall I continue to keep soil moist or go for a regular water schedule ?
@wildfern
@wildfern 4 года назад
I have never propagated directly into soil so I’m not sure 😕 I’d probably go towards a normal water schedule though if some of them are rotting! Good luck
@kllyhs
@kllyhs 4 года назад
I read that soil props can be more prone to rotting since soil has more bacteria than just normal water. If you want to stick to soil propagating, I suggest cutting it and then letting it callus over for half an hour!

How did you get the one stem of the watermelon peperomia to sprout roots???? I have my damn watermelon i sort of killed in 3 different propagations. 1 is the leaves cut in half in soil (rooting) another is with the nods or like 3 leaves together rather then just the one stem ( rooting) and then just 1 leaf by the stem but those arnt growing anything? Those r the ones with the most nice leaves so since they are nice im confused why those arnt growing anything at all? 😕 i was hoping all rooted so i can save every inch of this plant i hurt but its not. Did you do anything to yours or just placed in water? I have all in one jar, should I separate them more? I accidentally cut a piece of a spider plant baby with no nod or however u call em and decided to shove it in water and it actually grew roots so quick 🤦🏼‍♀️ i wish my single stem watermelon peperomias would do that.

I noticed you use plastic containers as pots for some of your plants. Are they good, because I want to recycle? is just making drainage holes okay to let let's say a pothos grow properly?
@wildfern
@wildfern 4 года назад
Hey! Yes, all of the pots I use have holes :) I don’t recommend using one that doesn’t. My plants do very well in plastic, as long as they are able to drain! I would definitely make the holes yourself if it doesn’t have any.

Usually about once a week. I will do it more often if it's a plant I really care about or am concerned about.

wildfern fun fact: I save my propagating water in a jug as it’s rich in growth hormones. I use this water to water other plants around the house.

Watermelon pepperomia are terrible houseplants! I only grow them In terrariums now. I have had some luck with growing them from a leaf and then those babies seem to be easier than the mother plant. Still think it's a crappy house plant lol

@@wildfern guarantee 95% of them purchased it that way and its going to look like crap in 6 months. It took me so long to understand how planterina had such amazing huge plants...then it dawned on me that she buys them HUGE! and replaces them constantly! You will be hard pressed to spot the same plant in her collection esp the pepperomia
