Here is the latest update on what's currently happening with my video projects. I tell you about the state of the NBTV Dissectorcam, the Cartrivsion Portapak, my Hickok 760 flying spot scanners, the NBTV CRT Televisor, the Big NBTV Televisor and speculation about other potentially exciting future projects. I also offer some resources and materials for interested experimenters. I offer starter kits for the 60 cycle reference pulse circuits for those who wish to run their own Cartrivision cameras on DC power. I show a very common low cost crystal tester and frequency kit.
The subject of numeric factoring is discussed in regards to deriving various frequencies for TV sync. Here is an on line factoring calculator to make your life a little bit easier:
www.mathpapa.com/factoring-ca...
I mentioned that I had two future versions of the Ten Four Eleanore project. I go on to describe the standard definition video version of the device. I forgot to mention that there will also be ab NBTV version as well. That one will probably preceed the NTSC/PAL version. There are two learning areas for me in these projects. Writing the Windows APP in C# (See Sharp) and learning to send data to and fro over USB.
The SD version of these project will key neatly into two follow on projects, an NTSC composite video encoder and a PAL composite video encoder.
Here is an Ebay search string for the crystal tester frequency counter kit: "DIY 1Hz-50MHz Digital LED Crystal Oscillator Frequency Counter Meter Tester Kit". Paste that string, without the quotes, into the Ebay search window and Robert is your father's brother.
Here is an Ebay search string for the DC:DC Booster I used to step up the 12V battery to regulated 18V for running the Cartrivision camera: "DC-DC 5V-48V Adjustable Step-up Boost Power Converter Module XL6009 US". Paste that string, without quotes, into the Ebay search window and Bob's your uncle.

Thanks! There is material in the works. Hopefully soon. In the process of job hunting right now and nothing else takes priority over that. I will be back with several new projects as soon as I possibly can get to it.

You know a cool party trick that bellows extension can do? As you move a lens farther and farther away from the focal plane (the target) your depth of field gets narrower, but your focal distance gets lower. If that sounds like a microscope, that's because it is! As you close in on an object, ambient light begins to become a scarce commodity (like a microscope), so it may not be a practical trick for the dissector tube...

Thank you for your good wishes. The search for work is not going well and the stress of it all has crushed my creativity. I can not justify "playing" when I can barely pay the rent. I get just enough temp work to stay broke. Hopefully, with the coming of the new year things will pick up again. I am not holding my breath though. It just makes me blue. Labguy is alive and still kicking. Will return to posting once the necessities of living are once again met. Seasons greetings to all.

OH all great Richard she looks a beast but also a beauty ! ; ) Now having done what you are doing with different lenses on the camera projects i have played with ..........some thing i did learn watching Troy's experiments using some paper at the focal point to see what size image the lens makes ..you may get focus alright but the size of the focused image you want needs to be the size of your scanning area in your case the image tube target area ...i would think its 35mm at the focal point ......point it out the window in day light and focus in a tree or some thing to see ..also a good test as you really know then where to adjust it to your image tube target.
@videolabguy
@videolabguy 2 года назад
Thanks for the kudos. I know the method you describe and did that. I used an image at infinity to measure the focal point behind the lens. Clearly, I missed. There will be a large magnification effect since the image area of the tube is far smaller than that of a 35mm camera. But, I can only address one issue at a time. Stay tuned for my next great problem and its wacky solution. :)
@039dalekmoore2007
@039dalekmoore2007 2 года назад
@@videolabguy That's the problem i found with 35mm lenses the focused area was to large for my scanning area ...i found pretty much video camera lenses logically gave the correct size for image tube and nipkow cameras but 35mm are much nicer ..perhaps adding a smaller lens to the idea might correct the problem ,i am sure you will come up with an idea ; ) all this looks really good BTW !

Hi Labguy. Hope you are well. I was just watching an 1970's documentary about European production of color CRT's, and was reminded of your channel. It's pretty dated, but it went into a bit more detail about the shapes of magnetic deflection yokes than I had seen before. In case you haven't seen it, it's on youtube at v=2jJm65mQWR0. Also, I'm sure every CRT fan must have seen this one, but this 1960's film from Tektronix about their CRT production is a absolute favorite of mine. v=jHGAnJjnNY0 . Have a good weekend.

“ My wife, Morgan Freeman.” It's a twist on a line from an old Saturday Night Live comedy sketch. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hV85E2S-Idw.html

How hard would it be to put a colour wheel in front of a cartrivision camera? With that and some way to insert the FSC sync pulse (on line 18 for each Green field) you could basically re-create the NASA Apollo FSC mode.
@videolabguy
@videolabguy 2 года назад
That is a very interesting idea. But, you can't use a color wheel with a vidicon tube. The field to field image lag is too great and the result is extremely low chroma saturation. However, if the camera was modified to accept a silicon target vidicon tube, there would be zero lag and the color would be as vivid. At 525/30i, the low frame rate of this method has severe and annoying color flicker and the digital encoding of the ClearClick removes the original sync, erasing the color field ID pulse. The NASA system used field memories to create simultaneous RGB. It was extremely cumbersome and complex as well. Another future project I have in mind is to convert one my Sanyo VCM-2000 small studio cameras into a true CBS color format camera, using a silicon target tube, to display live color my Goldmark 1 field sequential TV monitor. Not a simple project for sure.

Nearly bankrupt. For a year. Found a new job recently. Pouring my soul into that to catch up on bills and savings. Plan to return to RU-vid "soon". There will be amazing breakthroughs to report on the image dissector front. Progress was made on the NBTV camera. It is nearly complete. Improvements to the NBTV CRT Televisor. Please be patient and stay tuned. There is a lot of work ahead of me before the next video can be made ready. I hope this news wets your whistle. Thank you for your dedication.
