Loved this review! Thank you for sharing! There needs to be more HOD on RU-vid! Such an encouragement to me 😊

I agree! I wish there were more HOD reviews and videos on RU-vid. That's one reason I started my channel :) I'm glad you were encouraged.

Just curious, did you end up deciding on TGATB LA or the rod and staff program for grammar? Nevermind! I saw the answer in another video :)

Neither lol! We are doing Guest Hollow Language Arts this year :) I am thinking of pulling my second grader back into HOD language arts though because he is not a fan of writing and cut and paste things just yet so he's not getting into the full Guest Hollow LA. I'll probably do it with him when he gets to Preparing Hearts.

Are you doing all the hands on projects and guide as written? I would love to see how this is going for you guys and if you have tweaked it at all for your family. Also is the bible sufficient or do you add more to it? We are doing Bigger Hearts this year and i definitely have to add to the bible portion. Lastly how is the science going for you?

We do follow the guide as written mostly. We do not make our own clay though (I can't remember if that was a project from Preparing or CTC) whenever there is a clay project we use store bought clay. My daughter actually of her own choosing also makes little clay figures and paints them to store in her own "Grandpa's Box". I do think the Bible portion is sufficient and I love seeing how my daughter is really stepping into the memory work and prayer on her own now. And as for science we are loving it. My daughter does it on her own and I will check her work or listen to her narration depending on the day. I still help her or stand back and watch as she completes the experiments each unit. I plan to do an update video on Preparing Hearts hopefully soon. :) We love it.

I have a question on the history. I have often seen these books but a lady advised me that a child's history of the world brings in evolutionary dates and concepts. Is that true? How does the curriculum handle old vs new earth philosophy?

You do skip the first chapter or two in Child's History of the World where it mentions some things that don't line up biblically so as long as you follow the guide and read what is written for you to read each day you won't have any issues with that. HOD is written from a young earth perspective. You will use a combination of both Grandpa's Box and Child's History of the World to bring Biblical history and world history side by side throughout the year. You also read from the Bible and all the Key Idea notes in the guide really help to pull the different readings together for you and your child. I hope that helps. :)

I have 2 kids who are in the same level should I get the independent books for each of them or how would you suggest to do it?

If you are able to get them each their own independent books I would. It's kind of nice for them to have their own copy. I was able to buy two sets and keep cost down by purchasing used books at a local homeschool consignment book store. You can also check your library. Otherwise you'll just have to kind of juggle your kids schedules so they can take turns doing the independent reading for the day.

Hi, Did you ever use Bigger Hearts for his Glory? And in preparing do you add anything to bible or is it sufficient enough on its own? thanks so much

I have used part of Bigger Hearts but we only got about half way through at the time. You definitely don't have to add any Bible. There's plenty in Preparing and in all of the HOD guides we've used.

@@learningbetweenthepages527 thanks so much, do you mind me asking on why you stopped bigger half way? i am trying to decide between Bigger and Preparing and the Bigger reviews are so mixed. Did your kids enjoy the guide or was it dry?
@learningbetweenthepages527

@@arose5682 we stopped because it was the end of our school year and I had to decide how to approach the next school year since I had my two girls combined in Bigger the year before. My older daughter needed to move up in skill level though my younger daughter would have been fine to pick right back up with Bigger. I decided to go with Preparing so I could keep them together still. Hindsight I wish I had kept my younger daughter in Bigger and Bumped my older daughter up by herself.
