Being able to turn it off saves battery. Also, cops need the ability to turn it off. Imagine having to go to the bathroom or something and your bodycam records it all. Also the people who review bodycam would have to sit through 12 hour videos every day from every officer. It’s more efficient to only record when you interact with the public.
Dude, they can take their vest off when they are using the restroom, a lot of them probably do when they have to sit down anyways. They can get batteries that last longer or car adapters so whenever they're driving around they can have them plugged in and charging. The videos are time-stamped, whenever they need to see something that was recorded they look up the day and around what time it happened and fast forward to that point and watch from there, they don't sit there and watch the cops whole fricking shift. What do you think should be the bigger concern? Preventing the harm that's caused to both American citizens and the police forces reputation by the bad apples who intentionally abuse their authority and use excessive force, because that is what they are doing whenever they turn off their camera before or during an encounter or just choose not to turn it on. Or things being a little bit less efficient, batteries being a bit more expensive, and the police having to deal with a few minor inconveniences? 😂
