The reason why so many cursed Sanrio merch exists is because Sanrio is one of the most easy IP to license from what I heard, you could literally just contact them as a small-scale studio/company or even individual, if you have the money and infrastructure to make a product that's not "too over", they will say yes to the deal. Combine that with the need to stand out from the sea of indifferent Sanrio merch, you will get the goofy ahh items

“All the while Hello Kitty remained as the most popular [Sanrio character]” fun fact actually, according to official Sanrio Japanese polls, Cinnamoroll made #1 the last 4 years in a row (and a few before that), with HK not even reaching top 3 usually. Seems like she hasn’t really been super popular since pre-2010s but Sanrio seems to use her as the most common mascot.

The Hello Kitty plush with the very long limbs are from Stretchkins! It was a plush line that allowed you to strap the feet and hands of the plush to your own. Their limbs were elastic and allowed you to do jumping jacks and dances. From what I remember, each of them came with a DVD of different exercise routines. I still own my elephant Stretchkin from when I was a kid :)

It's still insane to me that this massive franchise started because a silk company wanted some cute characters on their products.

i've been using one of the hello kitty toasters for 7 years and it's still in super good shape. it doesn't really toast her face onto it anymore though, but it still toasts bread very nicely

In Mexico there have been a series of Hello Kitty colaborations with a specific period pads brand over the years (probably more than a decade by now); it's kinda cute how they decorate the pads envelopes with all sorts of hello kitty themed patterns. I believe there were also some Aggretsuko, Gudetama and other Sanrio characters editions. Sometimes the pads come in bigger boxes that would include a little prize according to the current pad theme. Which vary to litterally anything, from coffe mugs to boxes to store the pads and the list goes on. I think it's pretty fun!

Edit: I found it! It's called Hello Kitty Hello Everything and was a celebration of Hello Kitty's first 25 years. It came out in 2001, I was born in late 1998 so the time lines up that I would only be looking at pictures. The cover is a collage of different products from a bumper car to a guitar to a keychain. It features even crazier stuff like a car and there's a page for the video game stuff like the Dreamcast and little Game and Watch-like games. Also a phone where her head is connected to the receiver so you decapitate her to make calls. I don't know if I still have the book myself (probably not) but there's even a page through of it on RU-vid. I'm looking at it now and being hit with nostalgia for stuff I can't believe I forgot like the Hello Kitty dollhouse set where the characters look like erasers and the mermaid Kitty. I wanted both of those so bad as a child. Looking through now I don't see the ring I thought I remembered, but it's so nice to have a name to the book now. I used to have a book that was pretty much an encyclopedia for all sorts of Hello Kitty products, I looked through it all the time since I was a huge Hello Kitty fan but this was before I could even read so I don't remember it super well. It actually helped teach me how to recognize dates and years. I remember wanting the Hello Kitty toaster and for my parents to buy me what looking back now must have been a solid gold ring with a Hello Kitty-shaped diamond in it. I doubt we still have it, but I might look around online to just try to figure out what the hell that book was even supposed to be for.

There's a few different Hello Kitty sewing machines out there. Notably, there's a blue-green one by Janome called "Sewing Pretty with Hello Kitty" that's very popular right now among the lolita fashion community (for those unfamiliar, an alternative fashion from Japan that takes inspiration from things like rococo, vintage dolls, princesses, etc). I've been told it's actually a pretty good machine, albeit a bit small. Personally, I believe that sewing pretty with Hello Kitty is not a product but rather a state of being, so I just put a bunch of the Hello Kitty x Pusheen stickers on my otherwise normal sewing machine (whose name is Kevin).

I went to a hello kitty exhibit quite a few years ago with my mom (She’s a a HUGE fan) and the only thing I remember from that was a Hello Kitty Headstone…. We had an almost full Hello Kitty kitchen at one point. Talking microwave, toaster, waffle maker, coffee machine, milkshake maker, cookie jars, plates, cups. My mom also has a Hello Kitty Christmas tree she’s been setting up for the last few years. Oh I also had the tv with flowers one it! I honestly really miss it, we also had this shower curtain for YEARS and she took it down when my brother got older :/

Honestly in the food section you should have had the Hello Kitty wine. There are several different versions of it, sparkling rose and Cabernet included. All the products you showed seemed for children but that one shows that there are very much adult fans too.

I was born in 1974, so Hello Kitty has been a part of my whole life; and I have always loved it so much. Admittedly ChocoCat is my actual favorite Sanrio character, but Hello Kitty is my second favorite. I have a Nintendo DS that is fully tripped out with the Hello Kitty gear. One of the physician's assistants at my pain management doctor has an office that is entirely done in pink Hello Kitty gear and decorations. I love that you can be an adult, professional; and it is totally okay to have Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters on your work attire and office. I didn't know about the Hello Kitty/ One Piece crossover, and I'm going to have to check into that. Hello Kitty and Chopper and easily a perfect crossover combination, and I am going to have to find something with them on it. I can always find a use for more pouches, and Sanrio is my favorite theme for them. ^_^ I always thought that the weirdest and most problematic Hello Kitty product was the fact that they released an officially licensed Hello Kitty vibrator. Sanrio has said that it was intended for things like massaging your sore neck, but it is clearly shaped for other purposes (but technically you could use it on your neck, so they aren't lying....).

Hi polygen! The long hello kitty (as weird as it is), is actually from the toy brand Stretchkins, these wacky plushies were originally given extra long limbs with built in elastic to give them that extra stretch, hope this helps!

I actually have the hello kitty tamagotchi! It’s very cool. When you take care of your tamagotchi for awhile, hello kitty will take your tamagotchi to London, and you will get a egg. But.. the only problem with the tamagotchi.. (for me) is that.. it keeps on giving me this hammerhead shark thing.. as a creature. And the battery runs out a lot almost. Mine is uhh.. dead with a no battery screen. So, if you want to get this tamagotchi, please stock up on lots of batteries. It’s also pretty fun, and I’d recommend! It’s easy to use, so it would be good for children. When it dies, it gives you a new egg. Make sure to clean up its poop daily and feed it, along with giving it water so it doesn’t die. Hope this helped if your thinking abt getting it or anything.

I had these horrifying soap bottles back in the day. Hello Kittys body was the actual bottle and her head was just a cheap plastic 'shell' on top of it. So in order to get any product, you always had to decapitate her!
