What does the "G" mean in the naming scheme?

G means geometric (vector) continuity, as opposed to C0 C1 C2 etc. which refers to parametric (derivative) continuity. Here is a good technical explanation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-uniform_rational_B-spline#Use
