"thank you for your offers. I d pick james and debras offer cos I don't know if I will be comfortable working with an investor giving me deadlines like that."
Peter Jones demands seriousness from the entrepreneurs, so he must show it himself. You do not give a man three minutes to decide. When offering, one must assume that he believes it is a good business.
I respect James. Even though his offer was rejected based on "not knowing him or his achievements" he still stood up and went over to shake his hand. Gentlemanly stuff.
Peter's time limit is an instant no from me. Someone gives me an arbitrary limit like that and my response is "Obviously you know that if I think about this deal I'll see it's a bad one so no. I won't play your game. Thank you very much"
3-minute deadline :D Who does he think he is? If he was in front of big players who are 100 times wealthier than him, he would be like a little puppy with its tails all curled in.
This is their attitude. They hold the purse strings and do whatever they want. I didn't dislike rich ppl before but after watching many episodes of these shows I don't have a good feeling about them,
You don't know who you'll meet in the world of business there's bigger pricks than Peter. Peter did him a favour. But it was nice for the guy to have James to counter Peter.
+ Ruhel Production Shark Tank in USA is waaay worse with the time constraints than Peter Jones was here in the Dragons' Den, especially Mr. Wonderful. He *SCREAMS* horrible insults during his countdown and his time limit will only be as *generous* as 30 seconds to begin with! Often times 2 and maybe 3 other sharks are also *demanding* an answer to THEIR offer at the same time as Mr. Wonderful. They don't scream like he does or hurl demeaning insults but pile on the pressure just the same. It is truly horrible and happens fairly routinely.
@@SageTheRage Which is exactly why I would never go on that show. Anyone who tries to bully you into doing business is not someone I'd be keen on at all.
I understand that when a Dragon makes an offer and genuinely wants the business, they will fight for it by any means neccessery but out of all the strategies Peter has used to secure an investment, putting a timer on the Entrepreneur was a dirty move!
7.500 stores in the US before walking in, i would have said I'm sticking to 30% could initially do 40% but with targets met and investment returned come down to 30%
Update: the dragons didn’t end up financing it - which seems to be a fairly common outcome on this show. I don’t know why or the particulars, but I’ve researched a few of these episodes and this is the second time I’ve seen the the dragon deal didn’t go through. The product did really well for a while, especially in the USA, but after getting financing several times from other sources, the Bank pf Ireland refused them a loan to make the stock they needed to fill orders, and they had to liquidate and sell the patent. It appears that it’s not being made any more - there are 3 available on Amazon, but none from Bed Bath and Beyond, which was a major client at one point.
Many times they find out the reality of the integrity of the people, their finances, and the actual company, and find that it would not be something that can work out.
These guys have every right to be proud of what they have achieved but the way the belittled this pretty nice guy during this pitch didn't seem to me to be very attractive qualities to their personalities.
Great idea, I dated a girl that when she was sunbathing she would cover her face with a towel and her care of protection paid off and she has aged so gracefully. I love the sun, but if anything needs to be protected, it's your face and you'll love yourself for it later.
Considering this was back in 2008... Oh wait, oh... I Googled Cush'n Shade and saw they still get sold on Amazon for £29.99 but having gone on companycheck.co.uk, I can see that they got dissolved. I probably would give up to 60% equity to a dragon, I mean it's greedy for them, but if I'm an inventor there will always be other projects in the future. If the dragon's help means a success then why not. I'm sure I could cope with a little butt hurt if it meant I'd make money.
Yeah, my response would have been "I'll take up James and Deborah on their offers. Peter, I wouldn't work with you if you were the only Dragon who made an offer after a stunt like that."

Don't know this is advertised in the UK but in Canada it's sold investing in a good idea but what it was initially was more of a take over. The dragons would see a great idea or product and would only invest for 51% of the company, it has since changed with the intro of new and different dragons but I suspect also either ratings dropped or fewer people wanted to come and pitch their idea or product if they new they would have to give away their company or both.

No, wrong again! :) I was trying to be funny at your expense, but seriously. I think PJ made a bully move by putting a time constraint on him. If you are going to make a life changing decision, I'd think you'd want to know all the options before making a call? It is customary that all Dragons give their offers, so this was PJ being a dick. I'd say: I'm sorry you put it that way, because I want the project to succeed and being rushed into an important decision like this will not work.
The deal never worked out and the dragons did not come on board. Cush'n Shade however did very well after this appearance on the show and got some very lucrative deals. However, they went into liquidation in 2012 and sold out the company when Banks would not finance them to meet letter of credit from a major retailer
Considering how the video was cut & edited, that 3 minute time limit was probably more like a whole afternoon with tea and triangle sandwichs at intervals to rehearse .... That`s one thing i feel betrayed by; Live shows adapted & compiled of good bits for entertainment, which is obviously necessary but sort of steals from the essence or am I just too fucking stoned again?
No he wasn't lol this clip has just been edited u can tell because before he starts talking the presenter says he is holding up against the scrutiny of the them lol
I just would have told Peter that I'm not accepting his offer. Can you imagine this is the way this guy wants to start off a business relationship? What happens when he wants his investment back right away?Ok,it's been 5 days since I invested in you,I want my 50,000 pounds back in the next 3 minutes.Oh yeah I really want to work with someone like that! The dragons are assholes, you really find out what people are like when they are in a position where they don't have to be nice.
It would have been a no brainer to discard peter and go for the other 2 when he started pratting about with time limits. Would have just been better to exclude him for doing that.
Peter Jones, shame on you. Pressuring someone like that is unforgivable. I suspect you sleep well at night. Hope the afterlife is as comfortable for you.
Andy Ward I was at private school with PJ as we called him back then, for a guy so talk he was the laughing stock of the showers - a real tiddler down yonder
Peter Jones has a damned cheek to put a three minute time limit on it. Of all the dragons, I find him the most pompous, arrogant and most in need of a slap. How dare he? Oh yeah, he dares because he's filthy rich and can treat people in need with disdain. Typical public schoolboy type. In a previous life he was probably King Henry VIII. I'd never get into bed with him over James Caan. But then, I'm not a multi-millionaire. Although I should be.
dont understand the hate for peter, remember, this is first and foremost a show and its his and all the dragons job to make it entertaining. Now i wouldnt have played a long with peters bullying, and he shouldnt have either, but you cant blame peter for trying to make this a little more interesting.
