A long term project underway at D-lab. I have been contracted to build the AB763 Vintage amp. This video shows the mechanical layout, Pots, Transformers, sockets, etc. I also added 2 terminal boards for landing of the power transformer leads plus a multi ground point. Demonstrating some build techniques, may help you with ground noise. Had a massive delay obtaining parts, due to post office shipping delays. Finally have everything required. Now I am in process of wiring. After that is complete and the eyelet board is populated, I will present another update. If I had the time, I would feature the entire process, However my time is very limited. Will do my best. Enjoy!

At 8:07 "As you can see, I'm taking my time. I'm being very meticulous. Because I want this guy to be thrilled." Honestly, your attention to detail is making me want to purchase one of these amps and have it built by you. Your desire to produce a quality product for the user is sincerely appreciated! The knowledge you have accumulated and work ethic displayed is fantastic. Thank you for sharing with us.

Terry, I recently had one of those frustrating waits. Mine was a more mundane item, a 3-pack of the strings I use on my acoustic guitars. And just as you described, it sat for weeks in the same office. Eventually, I got a notice from Amazon that could cancel the order and get a full refund, but I still needed the strings, and a few days later, they showed (right after the 4 days of weather/electrical problems we had last month in Texas.) Thanks, as always, and thumb is up.

I am enjoying watching this build and am looking forward to seeing each episode as this build progresses. I am hoping that you will take special care to show us the completed grounding scheme. I am currently building a 5f1 champ kit from Boothill and when I got to the grounding part of the build, I realized that there were two different schematics used for this amp. One schematic used the 1/4 inch jacks for grounding of the preamp, the other used a grounding bus from chassis to which each preamp grounding point attached. I stopped my project and read on grounding and decided to go with the bus for more secure grounding.

Great job with the studs on the boards. I do something like that with all the old Fenders we have down here in Forida. The weather here loves to saturate those boards with humidity

I enjoy all your videos but never have anything to add to your builds or repairs. Back in the mid 60’s I built custom test equipment used in the manufacturing of vacuum tubes for GE. When I used the Buss Wire like you are using on this Amp, I would put one end in a vice and stretch the wire just a little. Making the Buss wire very straight. By doing this I believe would this improve the look.

Terry, studs are a good idea, but those nuts will loosen up over time. Us some nylon lock nuts when your not using the lug for a ground connection. Combined with the thick grommets will give the board a lot of vibration cushion. I've started using star ground terminals instead of local chassis grounding.

Quality work takes time (unless you're a delivery company like USPS, UPS, etc!), so no worries on taking the time to do it right. I could not agree more with your choice of avoiding sheet metal screws, they're not as reliable over time and lead to scraped skin! Almost as bad as cheap stamped metal computer chassis, where I've been plagued by razor-sharp edges especially where the card end plates fit. I've joked about gear getting fixed sooner once I've sacrificed a little blood! Take care, sir!

I'm still waiting on the reverb transformer for my Vibroverb build - it's been 4 weeks. The amp works great otherwise. I had a couple of old Brimar Ecc83's lying around and put them in V1 & V2 - the difference they make is way more than I've ever experienced with swapping around preamp tubes.

I feel your pain....The USPS in Michigan is imploding in on itself...I am waiting on parts with a ship date of January 15th. The parts shipped from Detroit and I live a few hours away near Holland. My gas bill showed up this past Monday and it was already 3 days late. I had to add extra money for late fees. I am in the process of going all paperless with texting updates for all bills (except for water/sewer). I don’t trust the USPS to deliver any important parts I need...what a bummer

I’m curious, I’ve built a handful of amps using turret boards and at least 1/4” stand-offs, but I see these eyelet boards so close to the chassis with no stand-offs and wonder what keeps them from never shorting to the chassis, especially when they’re known to warp? Just never seemed like the best option to me, but I have no experience with them. Is that ever an issue?
