Okay, Watching your progress as you posted pics in discord has been really exciting and it's so satisfying to see him done, zipping down the track, and hauling freight. Truly an astounding job you have done. I wish we saw Astrotrain do train things more as you said. Seeing this makes me want to attempt this project but I'm unable because of the lack of a 3d printer and tools. I'm excited to see what you might do with this or what else you will add to your HO scale Transformers collection.

Lazy Eyebrow this is down right amazing. I love the title card, Thomas just minding his own business when suddenly a purple streak of a locomotive just flys by. I can just hear him saying: Sweet cinder and ash, what the heck was that?! Not to mention Astrotrain looks friggen astounding, you could bring that to a model show and I may not recognize that it’s Astrotrain at first because it looks so damn good and is very close looking to the real life basis for him. Job well done 👍🏻

That is awesome! Love the details you threw in to make him look like a legit working locomotive. Though now I need to see him in some kind of animation where he’s ordered to go to Sodor to infiltrate the engines there.

All this thing needs is a Thomas-ified version of Astrotrain's face on the smokebox door then he would perfectly fit in with any HO/OO Thomas and Friends Collection. I mean he's already a bright vibrant color which wouldn't look too out of place on Sodor.

I am floored by the level of detail and accuracy you put into this project.

While the flickering light may be annoying, I think it really works in the back as if the blast effect is blazing. And perhaps the front is just flickering because Astrotrain is millions of years old. I don't know. I just think the flickering light is cool. Edit: Maybe if you ever do a stop motion skit with siege astrotrain, you can have this one as his alt-mode with a fig swap.

This is great, nicely done! I had a D-51 HO body back when I had plans for a whole series of custom 1/87 Transformers, but when I did my big purge of everything not 1/24 scale it was sold. I still would like to get an Astrotrain to go with my cars some day, but it's going to take a lot more room than what I have now.

Model railroading and Transformers brought together. Man, I love the internet.

To answer your question about why the power pickup is run through one side of the tender, its to spread out powere when crossing over points. Looks great by the way!

As someone who has been getting into model trains its really cool to see an astrotrain that doesn't need to deal with being a shuttle or a robot, its especially cool seeing an astrotrain do train things which I dont actually think I have ever seen before, which I think is a bit of a shame but hey now I have seen it, so thats cool, also amazing model looks spot on

I recently tried a custom electronics project not unlike what you're doing here, it worked fine for a bit... until it just decided to NOT work anymore, and I had no idea how to understand the help I sought on fixing it. I love that someone else has a passion for scale modeling. I have many desired plans for making scale replica’s of various media to put on my train table. If a model exists, I’m able to settle with 1/72. But I’ve been wanting to make The Iron Giant and an AT AT in 1/72

10:41 Fun fact: this train and shuttle have the same weight, so it's really no mass shifting. First time I learned that I was very surprised, because someone of creators of the original figure cared about reducing mass shifting in their toys. So, this huge shuttle can convert into small locomotive whatever ridiculous it seems to be at the first sight. The same could be said about Blitzwing: the fully laden plane has the same weight as the tank. If you don't believe you can check it by yourself. Anyway I'm not trying to say that your measurements are wrong. You're the only reviewer I know who really cares about scaling and I appreciate it because all my transformers figures are sorted by robot mode size and have several scale lines (unfortunately, scale lines of alt modes is hardly possible to create, you know why). I just want to remind you to pay some attention to weight because the problem is mass shifting and unbelievable shape shifting is transformers' feature. Forgot to say: this train is an awesome work, very like it.

Honestly, I kinda like the flicker effect on the LEDs for the thrusters in the back, even if it is a flaw. Kinda adds a little bit of unintentional life to the train, and makes the blast FX parts used seem a bit more lively.

Answers to a few of the questions you had in the video. Model railroads don't often have the best track conductivity or continuity, because of this locomotive manufactures like to have long pickup bases to give the locomotive the best chance to pass over small areas of dead track. Most locomotives with a tender will use that tender for pickups whether old or new production. With the introduction of sound and DCC controls manufactures have even more reason to have pickups, decoders, and sound systems in a tender. That motor you had to rewire looks like a standard model a lot of old locomotives used, if it ever gives you more trouble you can probably buy a spare or just ripe one out of a cheap locomotive from ebay.

Is there any rolling stock or Cybertronian rolling stock planed for the future? Maybe some Energon hoppers both in a Earth based format (like a Bethlehem 100ton coal hopper) or what ever Cybertron would have for an equivalent?

I love your work! I've been trying to get something like this made for O-scale, but have run into hiccups like yourself. My own research confirmed Astrotrain to br a JNR D-62, with a 2-8-4 wheel arrangement. (While the leading wheel is molded on Astrotrain's front panel, just under the axle for the toy's front wheel, the space for trailing wheels (where the hinge for Astrotrain's wing is located) is too big for one axle. Thus, 2-8-4 Berkshire.) The problem is, the only available version of the D-62 I've seen is in N-scale. That being said, I found I identified the right engine due to the placement of all the details (hoses, whistle, boiler deflectors). ANYWAY... I love how you changed him from a tender locomotive to a "tender optional" locomotive. He can carry a fleet of Trailer-Train trailers and autoracks, or run circles around Gordon and James. As for your lighting issue, flickering in the back is good. Whether he's burning rocket fuel or Energon, I wouldn't expect to "see" a constant flame, but the front headlamp is a different story. I hope to eventually get my project off the ground. So far, all I have is a cargo... enough Energon cubes to fill 2 Lionel 9100 series gondolas (about 10") -- a lighted set and non-lighting.
