Ben, Awdry created Edward as the first character in his Railway Series, but you made Edward as the first G Scale model not created by Lionel. That's very fascinating. Awdry would've been proud!
Great video I think some items you can make are Percy - buy a Bachmann G scale Percy and repaint him Toby - Thomas chassis and a box with popsicle sticks SC ruffy - Troublsome truck with Bachmann G scale face Gordon tender - James tender M truck - faceless Troublesome truck and right the letter M coaches - Annie and Clarabel with out the noses Gordon - james with 4 wheeled front bougie and an extra set of wheels at the back Henry - same as Gordon but with out the extra set of wheels at the back Molly - yellow Edward Thomas’s trucks - green troublesome trucks James’s trucks - blue troublesome trucks
Everything considered, this is really impressive. Although it isn’t perfect I am impressed that you made a custom face. Personally I would’ve just gotten lazy and just put the sad James face on and justified by saying “Edward wore that face in Edward and Gordon”.
That Edward model is awesome. I could never make anything like that. The face could be better but it could defently also be worse. Still looks like an official product. And the Van oh my god brilliant as well
Good job! If you have enough money, you should buy Bachmann G Scale Percy, Toby, Emily, Diesel, Paxton and Winston! As for customs, I’d like to see Henry, Gordon, Duck, Donald, Douglas and Oliver!
Pretty great custom!!! Speaking of which, if you get to that point of making another custom that requires 3D printed parts, perhaps you could commission someone to make a new face for Edward
Percy honestly seems like the next step to take, though he’d be HEAVILY scratch built. But he is small and I’m sure he’ll be a good gate way to scratch building as well as recycling parts from a Thomas where you can
He could use most cut the sides off of Thomas and probably use 3D saddle parts and make a mould or just put it on plus he could make a custom dome and face maybe he can make some rolling stock for him with objects in the trucks
It almost looks like Edward, but looks good. If you ran out of ideas of what custom to make, why not make a custom Lionel Molly. I bet she would look good by using the James model.
It's easy to say that your custom Lionel Edward looks pretty great and probably my favorite Lionel Customs along with the radio control Thomas and the special letter and lbsc Thomas pretty amazing on the processes that you had been doing for eight months and making Edwards face out of clay is an understatement and you did pretty well and the shade of blue spray paint that you choose it's pretty good and great that is exactly what I needed just so that I could spray-paint the tender wheels on my Thomas and Friends motorized talking Gordon which I got back in late 2021. Edward look pretty amazing and I'm literally in progress on the care and detailing and making sure that you getting everything near-perfect.
A very nice custom! The firebox being rounded off on the original James model kinda helped make it more like Edward (see 5:54)! This video proves that Lionel could've easily made an O scale Edward by recycling most of James (and they probably would've gotten away with making Henry out of the Hogwarts Express)
I think you're right. Since the Lionel James's Firebox is more rounded, Lionel could have made edward and/or molly using james' parts and thomas' wheels for edward, and it would have been a cool new engine for Lionel to make using a modified tooling. A Lionel Henry would have also been cool considering the fact that Lionel could modify the tooling of the gwr Hall class/ Hogwarts Express just to make it resemble Henry's basis the black 5. And if they were to make a Gordon they'd probably reuse the Hogwarts Express Loco chassis and RU-vidr Thomasdotd made an O scale Gordon using a Hogwarts Express chassis and an O scale Flying Scotsman shell and maybe they would use Lionel Thomas to modify into duck Oliver Stepney and Ryan and that would have been cool
If I might make a suggestion, Toby might be a good one to make! He could use Thomas’s chassis, and his body shell wouldn’t be very difficult to replicate.
Imperessive! This is my first time seeing somebody make a edward in lionel style!! I would love to see more character customs too! I suggest you either make Oliver like you said, or make Toby. Since you could take annie or cralabele for the body and do minor addjustments. And the rest should be easy. Keep up the great work btw!
You did a good job with edward with what you had to work with id reccomend toby next it would be for a possibly simple mod put a repainted annie or clarabel body on thomas' chassis with some custom side plates
With the proportion of the wheels/chassis, this might be a tricky pool of characters to choose from, especially since you need to build their bodies from scratch. I recon that a good next target would be Toby, since his body proportions could be a match for the chassis. That, and he can easily interact with both James and Thomas. A secondary target from there could be Mavis.
Honestly, if you're planning to make more characters in the Lionel Thomas style, I'd recommend getting a 3D printer. Making Gordon or Henry out of James or Thomas manually sounds like a nightmare
I think a way to make your Origins James look better would be to put the face from the James that you made Edward out of on it, that way the face is no longer yellow
Thats amazing! All tho instead of Oliver i would do Percy. Not because of my profile or username. But if u would do the challenge u could try to make his type of siderods. Which could eventually lead you into make Henry or Gordon Or a strasburg Thomas. it also does siderods. And a cow-catcher which could help make Toby or Mavis But honestly u should take a break because this already took 8 months. And they also cost loads of money
