I cannot emphasize this enough: Quinton playing something different with almost every demonstration makes these videos unique. People who demonstrate guitars by boring us with the same licks/riffs over and over do the demonstrated instrument a disservice. Using a different tuning helped show off this guitar's tonal qualities. Conducting an A/B comparison makes the same riff desirable, but here, the variety is magnificent.
I can only imagine how good this will sound a couple of years from now. Earlier this year I bought a second hand 000-18 and I think I hit the jackpot. I always wanted a good acoustic with an Adirondack (VTS) top, so this one would be my dream guitar, although it’s hard to believe my 000-18 could sound even better than it already does. ❤
@@Lutze_en_voyage : Hey Lutze! Funny you remembered. But yes I do. I love them both. But they are very different from each other. The 00-15m is the one I write most of my music on. It’s a very inspiring guitar and it’s so comfortable to play because of its size. I have the idiotic habit of lying down when I want to come up with new ideas. I’ve tried it with my 000-18, but I get tired quickly when I play that guitar lying down. It doesn’t seem like much of a difference in size (the scale length of the 000-18 is actually shorter), but it is really noticeable. Of course when I play with a band I don’t lie down. That would be silly. But the sound of the 000-18 is so extremely good! And it takes a punch. The 00-15m sounds very sweet and it has a lot of character, but it’s not a loud guitar and when you try to strum hard it compresses much more. Again, they’re very different and I love them both. At home I almost exclusively play the 00-15m. When I play with the band I prefer to take the 000-18 with me. 😊
@@mariodriessen9740 Thanks for your thoughts on the comparison between these two guitars. It's absolutely understandable...and funny that you play while laying down. I have to try this too..fortunately I have an 00-15M too, so there's a good chance that I'll be successful with that task 😅 Yeah the 00-15M is really a wonderful instrument. And it gets better with the years. Mine is from 2012..would be interesting to compare.. Did you changed the action on your 00-15M or is it still original like out of the box? If it's still original could you please tell me the string height at 12th fret? Since I lowered the action due to playability I have some tonal issues. Would appreciate your answer.
@@Lutze_en_voyage : Sorry it took so long. I did lower the action a little, but not a lot. I was actually surprised, since you mentioned it, to see that the action above the 12th fret was much higher than I expected it to be. But it feels really comfortable. It wasn’t comfortable when I got it. I’m not sure if this is true, but what I heard is that Martin deliberately keep the action higher and rely on the stores that sell them to set them up, because it’s relatively easy to adjust the setup when you want a lower action, but it would be a pain the other way around. It’s funny, I like my electric guitars to have a relatively high action and ‘thick’ strings (11/48), while I prefer a lower action on my acoustics with a light gauge (12/53). 🤷🏻♂️
That Martin needs to open up. Maybe in a few years it'll sound better but right now, I don't hear anything special in it. I've never been much of a fan of the 12 fretters and to be honest, I've never built one. Great materials with the solid mahogany back, sides and neck and an Adirondack top...you would think it would sing but to my ear...not yet. Just sounds twangy up top and muffled low. Maybe if the spruce had been toasted a bit you might have gotten more out of it today but, this one needs some time. To my ear anyway. As always, tonal beauty is personal.
Almost same with 000-18ge, except the cut through saddle,I have one custom 000-18, exactly same with the one in review video,it sounds really good,no need force, volume is pretty loud, tone is deep! great guitar!
I would love to hear this guitar compared with the Eastman E10OM. Supposedly the “poor man’s” Martin alternative at half the price. Although they won’t have the same tonal sound I’d like to hear the proof for myself. How about it guys?
Do you know what strings you were playing? I know Martin recommends the lifespan 12-54 2.0 phosphor bronze for the 000's. Just wondering if that's what they went with for this custom model.
hey Quinton what gage of strings did you use in this demo and what was your tunining you used for this demo did you just drop tune your E string a full step or were you in a open D tuning i love your style and your articulation choices , gives it a heavier vibe very cool , i like it , now i can look at a 000 in a differnt roll thanks , sometimes i add a bass track to your demos im gonna enjoy this one as always 🤘🎶🎸
Hi Mark - not sure on the string gauge, but felt like maybe 11s. This was a DADGAD tuning - it's just really fun for Celtic and bluesy finger style, and with all the open notes, I kinda feel like I'm cheating because almost anything you play can sound kinda cool! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
the rules are , there is no rules, thats the good thing about playing music you have the free will to create , i tune my gibson j185ec to dadgad , no mater what tuning your in open standard its understanding how to use it theres no cheating in music lol
