I am finishing up all "priority-one" tasks for my Cagiva 750 Elefant adventure mororcycle in this video - almost. That's all the things I need to do before I can allow myself to go on an adventure trip. A lot of stuff is happening in this video, you just gotta see it - to much to explain here 🤣
This video is part of a video series where I am trying to get my Cagiva 750 Elefant fixed in quite a hurry! I have promised to go on a roadtrip together with my friend ‪@tshansen‬ - can I get my bike ready in time?

Hahahahaha, the face when you look at the mirror 😂 Made my day! You should run with the truck mirrors, we have something to talk about when camping. 😂 Another great video, and nice of you to add me into the final video. Finally we can go on the trip we have planed for so long. Another great video with so much to learn. Thank you 🙌🏻

I can just sit on my bike and have 360 degree overview of the whole camping site with these mirrors 🥴 if I ever get there, the fuel consumption will be extreme driving with these, the air drag will be enormous 😅 Thanks a lot for joining in on the video, looking forward to the trip 🌞

I found your channel because I like the Cagiva Elefant (I have an air-cooled Monster so anything with that engine gets my vote!) But now, the type of bike is immaterial - I'm watching just to see your upgrades and innovations and the ingenious things you create with your 3D printer. Well done! You've created an Elefant for the 21st century. You should be very proud (and rightly so).

Your creativity and design of your new dashboard is magnificent - it looks brilliant! You have re-imagined your Cagiva and turned it into a very desirable and current motorcycle. Nice video, thanks...I would put an extension on crashguards to get them 1 cm further out (wider stance) so gloves fit inside, then i would bend mirror arms to lower them så they are not so high, then I would change all fairing screws so they wont fall out, lastly i would buy motor crashguards so the engine wont get Hurt from crashes
@kihestad
@kihestad 3 дня назад
Many good suggestions here! I don't plan to any rough adventure riding, at least not at first. I think I'll wait a bit before considering crash guards. Since this motorcycle is made with a good old frame around itit has a bit of inbuilt cover be default. Compared to newer motorcycles, where the engine itsef is structural and has no protection at the front, mine is quite protected as is 😊

Hi Ryan, it will be exiting to test it out 🤞The only thing of valuable is the tablet, and that is securely attached to the frame. The 3D printed plastic parts are not holding anything heavy, and it is actuallty quite strong, I think it should be plenty strong enough 😊

The issue with those mirrors is they are wider than your bars. If they attach to your controls versus dedicated mirror mounts, you'll end up breaking your controls when you drop the bike. I'd get some dedicated mounts if you have space on your bars.
@kihestad
@kihestad 7 дней назад
That is actually very good point. Adding an extra mount in addition to everything else is not very tempting though, there is not much space left 😬I have thought about these who has a "ball" in each end - similar as the mount I used for the tablet, but they are a bit more slippery. They are supposed to be bent away if crashed into something. Somwat expensive, but not crazy expensive, perhaps that would be an alternative 🤔

Glue and heated grips is not a great mix, don't ask how I know. Try jamming a slim zip tie between the grip and bar to tighten the fit. Also, sanding the throttle tube will help the grip heat however you can weaken the tube that may make it crack if you put a lot of pressure on the grip, like when pushing or lifting the bike. Try to find an after market throttle tube that is smooth when you have time.

I guess you have experience with 3d prints I would never used in on motorcycle which for longer time. 3D prints could be great for fabrication. It looks to me that you want to have it there for longer then few days. I printed lots functional stuff, but I would never believe it in place where is temperature from 4C to 40C, constant vibration and that structural integrity will be same after year.

I have thought the same as you, but I have been surprised how well it works. I have used mostly PETG, will try ASA next. Small pars that only have compression force applied to it, for ex a washer/spacer, even PLA with 90% infill is impressively strong and seems to last “forever”

It's weird. Maybe I'm alone? I consider myself a nerd, but I absolutely loathe the modern digital display trend. I would select analog needeles any vehicle, any time. It bothers me so insanely much that I essentially have to get some solution for my rides, But I'd prefer like 1000x small smart watch screen sized device that would just give roadbook style instructions. I need turn instruction and distance. I don't need to see global map or watch porn on my rides 😂

Is the alternator prepared for all that power consumption?
@kihestad
@kihestad 6 дней назад
It's a good question, these old Ducati engines / alternators are not known for delivering much current 😳 That's also why I added the voltmeter so I can monitor it. I will replace the headlight bulbs with LED, saving 36 watts = about the same as what the heated jacket uses. I did one trip using another smaller tablet + heated jacked, and it worked well. Let's see how it goes 🤞
@cortxt
@cortxt 6 дней назад
@@kihestad I hope so 😅 just for the record: Could be good if you revarnish the alternator that can help a little with heat, does nothing with how much current all your devices are going to draw, but ot can prevent a failure. The volt meter just gonna tell you if your alternator is working or not, but not how much current are you consuming
@kihestad
@kihestad 6 дней назад
That is true, but the battery will eventually be drained if the consumption is higher than charging capacity, it should be noticeable as low voltage eventually. I have to admit I have not thought about the problem that the alternator can overheat and be damaged because of too high power consumption 😳 perhaps best to investigate a bit...
