Decided I should build the first completely custom Redcat Ascent 18. So here’s what I came up with…. for now!

I test drove one at my lhs with a little bit of brass on it and man for $99 to start out it’s pretty sweet! Thanks for pumping out the great videos 👍🏻

Sweet!!! I’m glade someone else did this!!! I’ve been running the furitek stinger since the day I got it, I have a friend that works for Redcat so I got it day one, I ended up, reversing the whole transmission mount and skid so I can run the battery upfront front, a must try!!

Yeah I almost flipped this one around to try that but honestly I run the tiny galaxy lipos so they don’t weight much of anything. So the slider worked best for me. I love how easy this thing is to mod though!

I found myself going back to the shorter truck and not real short more of a C10 up front Gladiator in the rear but I think you know because of competition you know if you're going to do competition you ain't going to want something a mile long you know and not just that the rigs I have are smashing I have so many shorts ready to drop due to some of the most gnarly ass lines

Yeah very similar. I think it measure around 152mm center to center on the axles. Its all stock ascent18 links etc

What pinion did you use. My micro komodo has a flat shaft so the press on seems like can spin. Trying to find a 12t since the M is A 11t, I'm sol.

Redcat is having shipping delays due to the extreme demand for this truck. I got an email from them explaining how they are working overtime this weekend in an attempt to catch up. With the number of them they are selling I don`t figure it will be long before an aftermarket company releases a chassis specifically for this truck. It looks like it really needs one that is pinched for the shock mounts to get the geometry correct.

How long has this Redcat been out, I thought it was just released like last week? You’ve had this for a while? Nice job Modge podginging this scx 24 bits with this . If you use the V1 FMS controller that’s the one without the dip switches, it will have drag brakes just like the one that comes in the box and the axial scx24 V2 controller, the one that comes with the blue esc.

I'm pretty sure V1 FMS had dip switches, V2 didn't. At least that is the case for the FMS Smasher V2. Which confused me because all the FCX18 releases (including the one just released) use the one with dip switches which is apparently a good thing as I think the dip switch controller has more features.

Finally someone uses sandpaper on the incline test. 😂 Seems like it's a lot more realistic of a test.....Anyways,the rig looks great. I like that the truck is a little more compact. I'm personally not a huge fan of the 1:18 scale comp rigs.

Nice work! Radio binds too! Looks Great after you threw known good money at it! All Harley Designs did was attack the body with scissors and a 3D printer then put all the options they sent him that he wanted.

Gotta admit though, Harley's cab cut and tube frame looked really good. Did away with the weird, to my eye, proportions of the stock cab and the stretched down low rocker panels.

It bolted straight up! Nothing was needed. It uses the same pinion as the Trx4m so I’m running that pinion but that’s it.

There are so many promising 18s coming out. The newest furitek cayman v3 they put pics out of yesterday, has black/orange flamed body or just orange. Its an evo pro body insted of that ugly jeep front half cab pos they released with.

I am debating between the same wheels or a set of brass wheels. The weight would be nice for keeping the truck planted but the rotational mass seems excessive. Your thoughts?

Have you had any luck with changing any of the pressed on pinions when one strips out? If so please let me know how you did it. I’ve wanted to stop the small scale stuff for that reason alone.

I normally use a large flat screwdriver to fit between the pinion and motor and just sort of twist it until it starts to move the pinion. Then do the same thing on the other side of the pinion. Once it starts moving it’s not terrible. Sometimes it’s tougher than others though.
