made this as a proof of concept
Rules:
when you hold and release z you get a dash that gives you invincibility
when it's blue the dash is on cooldown
this works on both horizontal and vertical threads
you must be moving to dash
you cannot dash between strings

this was made in kristal, a game engine separate (peep the fps counter in the top right) from normal deltarune which was made in gamemaker so therefore you cannot add this to normal deltarune

feel like this'd be fitting for the orange soul, still a great idea to keep the soul in *line* with the yellow soul

I still headcanon cyan and orange souls to be paired ones lol. Wouldn't be sad if it's not going to be like this in the actual game though.

i like that it fits with the instant movement you get when swapping lines @@MishaGold isnt the mad mew mew soul technically cyan? although i dont think its the one color

@@petruciosxd1374 yeah, but i don't know how even consider the fact of its existence. Like, it themed after switch and works due to features of joycons. Could it be the same if ever appears in deltarune?

For me, orange soul in basic will always be moving (just like Undertale Green Demo), but maybe they should add a stop mechanic like holding X and give the soul a little indicator to know where they will be moving. Advance, in the other hand, will be able to charge a dash (until it hits the wall.) that can break through blue (not cyan) attacks like those mini Spamton heads. Susie's ability will either make you charge faster, or y'know, make candies fall from the ceiling when dash into the wall. Ralsei's ability will make your soul invincible a bit after hitting the wall.

@@MishaGold If the yellow soul was changed, they could always just keep the core theme of the soul splitting if they wanted to use it, right? Doesn't have to be the same way... Perhaps they could emulate the color matching part of the Mad Mew Mew fight and have you swap between red and cyan to dodge, Ikuruga style.

@@YeetusSnoopy yeah. It seems obvious to do it like in the same way, and many other deltarune custom soul modes are made with yellow soul charge system. But the dash doesn't work that convenient here gameplay-wise with pre-charge. In addition, nothing prevents player from simply holding down the charge all time, so then the same thing could be done by simply applying a cooldown after using it and when taking damage (as it would remove the charge if player was holding it down).

Kinda looks like if Bob TC's purple soul concept for their Devoii fight (Holding down z to charge up an ability that allows you to phase through purple attacks for a limited amount of time, with a cooldown) and Kuromi1906's concept for the purple soul for their Rosey the Rose fight (Holding down z and releasing to dash across two lines) were fused together, but allowing the player to go through all attacks when dashing and allowing the player to dash along a single line, as well as dashing across the lines

the charge mechanic seems a little unneeded the mechanic would work fine as a instant dash with a cool down, as this just means the player constantly has to hold down the button to keep a dash on stand by just in case which would be pretty annoying and the only way to not have that happen is to make the dash tell obvious it's upcoming so the player can prepare without having to be psychic or always have a dash on hand and even then it would be safer just to keep it on hand i understand the yellow soul had a charge but it's... more logical, a single shot gets destroyed with the object it hits, so why not make one that keeps going, and why not make it bigger too, but we don't want the player to always have this so let's change it so let's make it so the player needs to prepare a shot to have that bullet it's an evolution of the soul that makes sense i saw the other one you had that made the strings change from up and down and left and right and that works better there! but normally changed dashes don't work unless you could... store them perhaps? and didn't have to use them right away? while i don't think this particular game is the best, Junkil Redux: Broken Deal had a really cool soul mode that was an evolution of the green soul, you can't move freely but if you press z, the direction the shield is pointing is where you will dash, and hitting a wall just puts you back to the last place you dashed too, you still can't move, it's not as annoying as those half red half green soul modes as you can stand still and still block stuff and the game requires you to dash to move around unblockable bullets you don't have as much control as the red soul so you still feel "stuck" but if you're good with it you can move pretty fast, and if you don't want the player to move just make the arena smaller! while the attacks they made didn't always feel like they worked with the soul mode, it at least gave the player more options while still limiting them or making them do something that couldn't do with the red soul and it didn't really feel like a burden or an unfun mechanic that you just had to get through

@@YeetusSnoopy i mean if you can make it work i guess but i never vibed with that mechanic, like i said before the charge feels forced in, makes attacks either way to easy or they have to be made super difficult, and takes focus away from blocking arrows a bit which can make the mechanic go unused unless forced

I feel like if possible, I'd make the color be split between the soul and fill up like a bar instead of fade back to purple. The gradient is a bit hard to tell if you're actually ready.

This is cool but it doesnt fit with the purple soul, a charge mechanic fits with the yellow, not all the other ones, and the actual ability of horizontal movement also doesnt fit, i feel if you want a movement for the pruple soul, it should be for vertical movement
