Obviously providing good customer service is basic good business sense but seeing as you seem to so worked up about my appreciation of the guys at Peach I'll provide more detail. I contacted a few places about a custom and Peach stood out for the friendly helpful manner, an this is before any money had changed hands. They then helped me iron out aspects of the spec and kept me up to date with what was going on, promptly answering any queries I had over the whole process.
Humbuckers are typically wired in series, each coil is directly connected in the circuit creating one pickup with plenty of output and hum cancellation. When it is wired in parallel you effectively have two single coils independent of one another giving you a lower output and brighter sound (a little like a single coil) but still hum cancelling.
I know suhr brand just recently. Rather than buying the standard one, I'm planning to get the custom one. Coincidentally, my wood choice and color is similar to you. For fingerboard, I like ebony. For headstock color and inlay, maybe I'll choose the cheaper option. The most difficult choice is the pickup. From this video, I know how SSH+ and SSV sound like. The most brilliant idea, that I take from this video, is instead of buying a gibson LP, I should buy a custom suhr instead. So, thank you for giving me that idea.
Well in this case the Modern model isn't like any Fender instrument, Suhr's own body and neck design etc. but Suhr's Classic series are very Strat like in appearance, FYI John Suhr was a Master Builder for Fender. A court ruling, not too long ago, stated that the Strat shape was generic and therefore free to use by all and there are many many US and global custom makers making really high end strats and teles.
Hey man, thanks :) I've never had a problem with that on any of my guitars, just the way I pick I guess. The guys at Suhr are very open to dialogue though, get in touch with them (direct or through a dealer) and see what they say. I'm sure they'd be more than willing to move the position to your specs. It is a custom build after all :) Good luck and thanks for watching!
I remember watching this video years ago, was reminded of it when my Charvel Guthrie model turned up at my door recently. I know it's old but great video Mark
Turned out to quite a long video! So here's some quick time codes if you want to skip my waffling ;) 2:28 Deciding to Order a Custom 5:27 Body Woods 5:53 Pickups and Wiring 9:37 The Neck 12:45 The Finish 15:03 Unplugged Sound 16:21 Crunch Sound Demo with all pickup positions 25:48 Wailing Demo ;)
Also, Malmsteen is Malmsteen ;) he can do what he does on anything. Again comes down to personal taste, I like have 24 frets as is gives me more options compared to 21 or 22. I can tap, or slide to/from those notes in addition to having the option to bend to them as well like you would on 21frets. I wouldn't cut off any options regarding guitar design based on what I've read etc. there's no substitute for personal experience in finding out for yourself if it's for you or not :)
Congrats on the build :D it's a long wait but so worth it. I'll either block the term with a cloth underneath or use a cut piece of cork/cloth/wood and stop the term in the cavity. Having restrung floyds for many many years a floating 510 is relatively easy and I'm sure be fine for you.
I switch between the Modern and S3 every now again, the Modern, of course, feels a teeny bit more comfortable for the more extreme stuff and sits a little differently due to its shape. It's a slightly different beast though compared to my S3. the S3 is very strat like, whilst the Modern sounds like a Les Paul but plays like a Jem/RG superstrat ;) Both are equally amazing to play just tiny differences depending on what you are playing technically/sonically.
Hey Man, thanks, the colour is indeed awesome I love it :) Regarding the pickup position and 24 frets I'd be wary of buying into the usual guitar 'facts' that circulate about the place. the '24th fret' node idea is kinda mute when you consider the fact that you fret notes on the guitar therefore changing the node position constantly. IMO moving a pickup very slightly closer to the bridge will possibly bring in more high end articulation but on a hum bucker probably not even noticeable at all.
That wiring is exactly the same as my ibanez RG series. I will eventually own a Suhr, but I will go for the 2 buckers + 1 single coil in the middle sound, cos I am a fan of the strat sound over the les paul sound despite how mahoganys my fave wood as well. But I have the RG and a 335 which thoroughly covers the humbucker sound if I need it.
Enjoy your guitar mate. Its a beauty. Still love my Brian moore custom shops though. They're right up there in my opinion. Curved body too for comfort. Mahogany body, beautiful maple cap with stunning colors, curly maple or stripes. Indian rosewood fretboards. Locking tuners. Seymour duncans.
@Ale90wildchild Thanks :D I went for a 16" radius on this but have compound on my S3. I find both very comfortable to use, again similar to yourself in that I played Ibanez guitars. There is a difference there but it's slight. String bending etc. feels great on both to me. May the 16" just edges somewhat for certain tapping techniques but again it comes down to an individual's own preferences for their hands. I'd say try and A/B one of each at the same time if you can :)
Thanks for uploading this. I love the shape of the Suhr custom, and the flamed maple top and the paint job looks amazing. But I think that having 24 frets on a guitar that has a neck pickup is a mistake because the pickup has to be moved backwards to accomodate the two extra frets and this compromises the sound of the neck pickup. I've never understood the appeal of a 24 fret neck when you consider what Yngwie Malmsteen can do with just 21 frets.
Incredible guitar! I think you made the right decision opting for Pau ferro instead of rosewood. The tighter grain does feel better. Also, that blue you chose is really beautiful.
Oooh what was little chord progression there at 24:45.. I know the song somehow, but cannot place it. So very impressed, the neck pup is decidedly vintage but as you said, not wooly and still with some barking mids. Not an all singing and dancing guitar, but a darn versatile and lovely one. Learned a new neck wood today as well :P Cheers good sir to many years of joy!
You have a lovely guitar there!! Can it hold the occasionally dive bomb? I have a PRS Custom 24 and I just love the trem, I can play for weeks while using it without having to tune the guitar, holds it almost as good as a floyd. Does the same happen with this Suhr? I would like your opinion because I'm thinking of buying one but I'm divided by a floyd or this system, I surely prefer withouth locking nut, but if the tuning is all over the place I can't stand it.
Awesome stuff man! I hope to one day upgrade from my Pro Series to a Custom Modern. I pretty much want all the options you have, with the finish being Bahama Blue. Whale Blue would be my 2nd choice. Cheers to you from Texas!
Just lovely. And you didn't do what I did when I got my carved top standard...."oh no, they sent a fretless one". Yes, I took a few seconds to realise the black plastic string guard was there.....doh!
Thanks Mark, your Modern is truly beautiful. And I think I will go with a Modern as well as I am not much of a strat player. I am currently looking at some Suhr Pro M6, M7 and M8 and possibly a Guthrie model if I really stretch my budget. Thanks
Nice one..I have just purchased a Whale Blue PRS SE for not as much as your Suhr costs not doubt..I ws thinking of getting a higher range PRS but because I love Guthries playing I was thinking about getting a Suhr..What do you think.? Love your tutorials by the way..AWESOME
24:36 sisters! Used to love playing that song! Beautiful colour by the way. I didn't like jack gardiners lighter blue colour with no burnt edges (though obviously i loved its sound especially with jack playing it) I much prefer your colour choice it looks beautiful! I think personally i might go for a satin, root beer or natural wood finish, similar to the rasmus finish or many of govans signature models
hey there. sweet guitar. im thinking of ordering a custom modern, but I have a reservations about the placement of the volume knob. Do you find that it ever gets in the way or that your hand hits it when you alternate pick?
Wow this is a lot like my guitar was going to look like except mine will have 7 strings, different pickups, a floating bridge Tremelo, a locking nut, and a 5 piece neck and your guitar is very beautiful :)
Hi. Nice guitar mate! Congrats Can i ask your opinion? between the ssh and ssh+ pickups for the bridge, which would you recommend? The ssh+ seems to have a fair bit of output here in the video. Is it hard to make it sound clean without rolling the volume back? Thanks
The SSH+ is a medium hot pickup imo, I've found it cleans up really nicely but that can be dependent on your amp setup tbf. I've never tried a SSH, I have a SSH+ in my pro series so went with that again for the custom as I love the way it sounds and reacts.
I am just curious how do you like the guitar now after owning it for a while? How does it compare to the Pro S3 ? I have a hard time deciding between a Suhr Pro or a Modern.
AH, i see now! you've explained an age-long question perfectly for me. thank you! i always see that on the new Ibanez's and nobody'd explain to me what that was. btw i absolutely love the axe. my dream is to have one of those in basswood. Heck, it would only cost TWO of my truck.
stating at about 1:38 this looks fret less, its the protective paper i know but the video really makes it look fret less.very nice guitar, but wow,a jem gmc and more in trade, this isnt cheap by any means.its so beautiful though, like the miles deep finish ,the zebra hum's,just everything is sweet.
@moss1transcendant Nah, I had good faith in what Suhr would pick for the top. I didn't have too stringent grain pattern needs. I wasn't disappointed :)
can someone please explain to me what it means to have your humbuggie "parallel connected?" i understand basic circuitry and how a pickup works, but no one's ever told me how a humbucker works in parallel.
It's never been an issue on any guitar I've played, hand position and range of motion is pretty subjective :). FYI The edge of the knob is 40mm from the string.
Hey dude, Sweet guitar and great video (it's like porn... ie Suhr) One question. How deeply is the trem recessed? Did you just tick the recessed box?, or did you specify a particular recess? I know that was more than one question, but ... I'm Australian. Cheers!
