We had a lot of fun custom building these wheels for the Maryland Cycling Classic. It was a bit of a last minute build but we wanted to do something fun so we did a custom splatter anodize on some Velocity Aileron rims and Bitex hubs.

Amazing! This is much like tuning an instrument. You checked the tune as you basically strummed the spokes to verify harmonic balance and then moved to fine tune with the additional tools to find the warps and get in full balance!

Can you tell me what solvent works to thin out old spoke-prep? And how do you feel about using boiled linseed oil as spoke prep?

We just use a few drops of water if it starts getting to thick and that seems to work well. I’m not a fan ob boiled linseed oil personally. Wheels built with it tend to be tough to true after a couple years and it can cause wind up on aluminum nipples.
