This same thing happened with me. I went to change carbons. He fitted it to the bike but with reversed polarity. The motor spins but could start the engine. I came home, researched a little on the internet. Then i removed the self motor myself, saw that the lines didn't match. So i did the same as you did and boom it started the engine. Next day i went to the mechanic and paid him ( i didn't pay him earlier) and explained him the process. From that day onwards i service my self motor at home (the incident made me learn about it)

Good work bro! Mujhe samajh nhi aata, kisi chalti hui chiz ko kharab krke yeh sale gaadi wapas karne ki kaise himmat krte hain. Inko paise toh kya, police ke haathon dena chahiye. Ek baar ek bewakoof aise hi meri starting gear, self ke time pe accelerator le kar kharab kar raha tha. Mujhe pta tha, toh maine usko daant diya, par aise toh mushkil hai. Inke yahan kabhi jaana hi nhi chahiye. Lots of respect for honest mechanic like you. 👍
