So sad when people pay good money for a job and get shit in return.

At least now she doesn't have to pay for brake pads as they are now lifetime brake pads. Anytime she needs brakes done she only needs to pay for labour.

@@Raylude5 I was a service advisor in 2001 and my hourly rate was $8/hr. + 5% commission of labour sales, not parts, above $20,000 ($33,500 in today's money) for the month. So if I sold $20,100 in labour for the month, I'd get an extra five bucks that month.

Pretty informative video. You’re very thorough. I wish I could find a trustworthy mechanic in my area. Keep up the good work.

I fell victim to a shop many years ago that resorted to petty sabotage to drum up repeat business. They'd mess something up on purpose and when you went back, they'd fix it and screw up something else. In my case, they did the front brakes and when they put the wheels back on, they hung them crooked and slammed them against the rotors with an impact gun, distorting the rotors. Luckily, I saw through the ruse very quickly and never went beck there again. I went to another shop and they turned the rotors without slammming the wheels with an impact gun. I didn't mind paying for it, either.

It's possible the previous "shop" was a well-meaning family member or friend because it's hard to believe a licensed business would tolerate such excessively sloppy workmanship going out the door, even if it was an apprentice or non-licensed mechanic. But you never know.

It's a pretty well known tire shop they have 3 locations in our area alone. And many locations in Canada and in the US.

I feel like the term customer States has a pretty negative connotation associated with it. Like there was nothing wrong with what the customer said here, right? He got his brakes down somewhere, they weren't done correctly...
@theoffroadingmechanic
@theoffroadingmechanic 6 дней назад
I think that is just the internet for you that created that idea of "customer states" it doesn't mean that there are any negative intensions towards a customer. I just use it as what the customer complaint is.

There is also a rubber sleeve on sliding pin. In rust state especially Toyota dealers take that sleeve out bcz it seize. Not sure the purpose of it and is it matter whether it goes on top or Bottom sliding pin
@theoffroadingmechanic
@theoffroadingmechanic 8 дней назад
They rust because no one ever services or clean off the old grease and re grease them when servicing the brakes. The rubber sleeve on the slide pin is there to dampen caliper vibrations and are usually put on the trailing side of the caliper. Similar to what the shims on the back of the brake pads do is to dampen vibrations.

If they wrong grease is used (which it often is), the rubber will swell/deteriorate and cause the caliper pin to bind. Use silicon based lube with rubber

I was told that screw holding rotor is used in assembly and no longer needed to put it back. Do u see any issues not putting that small screw
@theoffroadingmechanic
@theoffroadingmechanic 8 дней назад
It may not matter for some people and might not be significant. But for me if they put it there I still put it back. And it also holds the rotor in place when we use the on car brake lathes so the opposite side doesn't flop around and contact the caliper bracket. But then you can grab an axle nut and a lug nut to hold the rotor in place.

I've never torqued brake parts, ever. Not in 30 years, never had a problem. I never see you using the HDS and the other thing I find odd is that you use aftermarket service info
@theoffroadingmechanic
@theoffroadingmechanic 7 дней назад
Ionni people in the internet wants to see the torque specs so I just give it to em as long as the bolts are not loose.😆 The HDS takes too long to load up I never use it to do rear brakes with electronic parking brakes. Everyone just borrows my autel. We use both prodemand and all data along with our OEM shop manual just because we do a lot of off make vehicles not just Hondas.

Are the powdered rotors on newer gen Hondas or did Honda change to it at some point for all model years?
@theoffroadingmechanic
@theoffroadingmechanic 6 дней назад
Not all rotors are coated. Some models will have them and some don't. Like the 10th gen OEM will be coated but the 9th gen rotors won't be just the rotor hat will be coated.

I'm in the Vancouver area. Honda parts prices are horrendous here - the markup is crazy.. There are a lot of third party parts that are much less expensive and just as good as OEM.

I thought those screws were only for production/assembly? What if I don't put the screws back on?
@theoffroadingmechanic
@theoffroadingmechanic 6 дней назад
They are for assembly purposes but anything that comes off goes back on regardless of it don't matter or not. And if you machine the rotors with an on car brake lathe it holds the rotors in place so they don't flip around and rub on the caliper bracket.
@npolite22
@npolite22 6 дней назад
They are for assembly but also help keep things in place when replacing pads. I do put a little anti-seize on them as they tend to rust badly. You don't need these as when the wheel goes on will keep the rotor in place. Just your preference. On my 07 TSX I had a plastic door where the drain plug is located and got tired of putting it back on. That was many years ago but still have the door in my toolbox.

I have a camry, is it normal to hear grinding noises when the rotors have rust on them? After it rains or a few days the rotors build up surface rust. When my radio is off i can hear grinding when braking for the first time. Then, after that, it goes away. The other day the dealer overfilled my oil by half a quart, and the brakes were stronger than normal (as in it took less effort to stop than before). Until i checked my oil and went back to have them fix it. The brake feel went back to normal. Thats something new i learned
@theoffroadingmechanic
@theoffroadingmechanic 7 дней назад
That is pretty normal especially in a humid environment or somewhere that gets a lot of rain or salt. We get cars with rotors rusted over mostly in the rear.
