Hey guys, today we have a 2016 Toyota Tacoma that is getting some major repairs. One of the repairs is replacement of the radiator. We go through some tips and tricks on the process to help not damage anything. The reason for replacement, not sure as the coolant has mixed with the trans fluid. The radiator has an internal trans fluid cooler that may be leaking causing the cross contamination. This WILL CAUSE A SHUTTER IN THE TRANS around 35mph on a light load. There will be a part 2. Enjoy!

Yes! Check the parts! I was doing a timing chain tensioner recall and ordered the right parts, parts dept. got the right part numbers ordered and delivered. Got the engine torn apart and found some goomba had put a driver's side tensioner in the passenger side box.😲 Now I check everything.

The one thing I can not get over is the amount of rust you guys have to deal with up North. I live in North Alabama and just do not see much rust at all. I love the video where you walk past car or truck and say were replacing the frame on this one like its an every day thing. Love the video's keep them coming.

Always good to use the cardboard. I use to use a thick grease to hold the bolts in the sockets, but I like the dumb dumb alternative also.

I've used masking tape to hold fasteners; just enough to get the fastener in it's place. I think they also make little magnet inserts for sockets. Saw somebody use chewing gun once.

I’m surprised Toyota had fitted a Thermal Clutch to the cooling fan as I thought they stopped that in the mid 80’s, at least here in Australia they had. I was expecting an Electric Cooling Fan mounted as part of the cowling, that way it’s much easier to remove & refit, plus it saves a lot of weight and engine power. Great use of cardboard to protect the radiator from damage, sure beats trying to rake the fins once they’re bent.
@ScottDLR
@ScottDLR 2 года назад
It may have a heavy duty towing package and needs stronger cooling. Electric fans are great for their application but mechanical fans (which can draw 15~20+ HP) can flow a lot more air. Notice how heavy duty trucks always use mech fans.

My '03 GMC 2500HD with an LS also has a thermal fan for that extra flow. It's noisy as all get out.

Tooth pick, masking tape, etc. When he took the bolt out I was wondering if it was going to go in the bottom and he'd end up taking it apart anyway. Drop.... clink..... damn! That or you can't hold the bracket the bolt goes into. Love the good old days. Chevy 5.7 liter V8, plenty of room around everything. I have a 6 liter in a 3500 chevy van. Seems there isn't an inch to do anything around it.

Hello, I'm not a specified mechanic, more of a hobby and I'm curious, do you wash the new radiators before mounting? I've watched a computer assembly video long time ago, where they used a car radiator to cool it 😂 so basically they said it's recommended to prewash the radiator after unpacking, to clean any dirt inside does it have any meaning behind it?
