Choice Home Warranty, a company facing legal action in Arizona and New Jersey for not paying out claims, is allegedly doing the same in the Kansas City area.
I believe it. ALL the techs that have come out have complained of the company. Many were not paid and several have quit working with them in the middle of our claim.
Not honoring mine either - just filed claim with NJ BB . If there is a class action suit, I want in! Working with an attorney now. These people are thief’s and liars and should be punished and shut down.
I have had a warranty with Choice Warranty for about 6 or 7 years. In those years I filed maybe two claims. On may 22, 2022 I filed a claim for my whole house air conditioner, the next day my bedroom unit failed so they combined the claims. A technician came out and determined both units needed to be replaced. Weeks went by and choice finally approved the claim and my cost would be $900.00 for one unit. I initially questioned the $900.00 but agreed with it because we had been without air for so long. Weeks went by without any communication from choice. My whole household suffered from the intense heat. I emailed the case manager and told her how we were suffering and she never answered one of my emails. The manager said they could not get a hold of the technician. Ok one month without air let’s get another technician to do the job. Sent another technician and my price went from $900 to $3700.00. My husband is a disabled veteran with PTSD and this is how they treat someone who has served this country.
Choice Home Warranty is nothing but a rip off. I just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General’s Office. They make promises, forces you in a position where you have to seek help for your problem and deny your claim. I encourage everybody who had a problem to immediately file a complaint on this company. They need to be shut down.
All home warranty are a scam.For the customer and the contractor that is called they are unwilling to pay for the cost of the repairs or the replacement. I am a contractor and I deal with this all the time the real estate industry is selling these as if they have value and they do not! And if they say the warranty is included in the home sale transaction tell them to take $500 off their commission and do not include the home warranty. And you’ll be money ahead.
As a first time homeowner of only 3 months. I've already figured out exactly what you said. We are cancelling choice and not bothering getting any warranty. The word warranty is worthless in all aspects
I am a current customer and I am so disappointed and frustrated! They could not fix my refrigerator (freezer stopped freezing) so they said they would "replace" it, They issued a Lowe's E-gift card for $950, I declined it, they increased it to $1180 when comparable fridges do not sell for less than $1600. I tried explaining to the case manager that he should look at Lowe's and see that there are none I could buy for what they gave me. He insisted that based on "their calculations" that was the price they were willing to pay. I asked to speak to someone else who could maybe increase it, he said no. He was the only one I could speak to, Are you serious?! How could this be? If only they issued a visa card that I could use to shop around for a cheaper fridge but no, it had to be Lowe's. This is absolutely unethical and poor business practice. I had to throw away food from the freezer. it was a hot box basically after 1 week. I feel i was taken advantage of. They did not honor their part of the contract to "fix or replace". And what's interesting, the case manager said they used to replace but customers were not happy with Home Choice Warranty's replacement choices! I am not surprised. They replaced one problem with another! Also, the service company diagnosed on March7th. I did not get said e-gift card until May.
BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY I HAVE BEEN WITH THEM FOR YEARS AND THEY ARE THE BIGGEST RIP-OFF I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. I DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY ARE STILL IN BUSINESS BUT OH I DO BECAUSE WE GIVE THEM MONEY AND ALL CLAIMS GET DENIED.
Same here. I had to get my own tech because they couldn't find one after 10 days. It was a plumbing problem that needed to be fixed. After my guy uploaded the info, they never approved, so after 3 days, I had to get it fixed and then they wouldn't pay because they didn't approve the repair... I'll be done with them next year for sure
Choice home warranty company should not be in service any more period! I just tried to get a contract with them a couple days ago that will start in June. First and still I never received any receipt or contract from Choice Home warranty, even though they already charged my credit card for the whole full 4 years contract. Later on that same day when I go and read the fine print on their website, then I decided to cancel the contract on that same day day I bought the contract. I spend over 1hour on the phone with representative going back and fourth, trying not to let her convince me to keep the contract. Finally she said that the contract is canceled and she will sent me the cancelation confirmation number; instead I received a comparable package of a better price. They never sent me a cancelation confirmation number or refund the money to my credit card. I emailed the agent whom I signed the contract with and he never replied back. When I called, it's just a voice mail, no one to really talk to right now. Whatever you do or no matter how cheap or sweet of a deal Choice Home warranty company sounds like, stay away from Choice Home warranty company!!!! It is a scam!
I am a contractor that they called to start to do jobs for them. I stated we would not work for 30 days. They said we would get paid with a credit card. Now after spending hundreds of dollars on parts for customers. They don't want to pay. Choice Home warranty is a big scam for contractors and customers
I was a contractor for them most of 2022 then they dropped me for replacing systems that couldn't be fixed ...now they call me call me want me to come back and help them so I did two jobs today to find out they use email to customer if customer doesn't respond to them I do not get paid ...second job kept asking for more pictures of this and that after 1:30 minutes of me leaving the job site ..and already had some other company give them same diagnosis I did ...I don't see me doing anymore work for them after today I most likely won't be paid for my 4 hr round trip and two one hour diagnosis on customer system ...if have a home warranty drop it don't think you getting anything replaced if it broken and no parts available...

Look At only facts... You submit a claim they might make it out within a week I filed a claim on November 16th and today is the 4th of December. My hot water heater has been broken since the 14th of November, Its winter and no hot water. This is just the beginning. Customer service is non-existent. They have not contacted me once all communication has been initiated by me over 50 phone call with more than 80% being answered by a call center in the Philippines, and they have no authority to do anything but they are very good at pissing you off. Here is where the scam comes into play. And this is not just being based on this repair, please read this brief history of their business practices; We had 3 ceiling fans nice and expensive and 64" blade span, all go out at the same time. after inspecting they agreed they need to be replaced however they said we only replace with 48" fans and if I wasn't happy with that I could accept cash in lieu of repair based on the cheap 48-inch fans they install. I accepted the cash in lieu of repair because our fans each were over $550.00 they were only offering $490.00 total for all three. The real problem is that claim was done in 2012 and I have been trying to collect consistently yet they have failed to even pay their little portion. Again similar type claim Our large home refrigerator went out and their replacement was not the large size fridge they said they would only replace it with a model similar to a tall apartment fridge because they had a cheap source for buying them. I took cash in lieu of and that was in 2017 and they have still failed to pay their small portion. As you can imagine I am not taking cash in lieu of anymore. Their word means nothing and even worse their contract that is on file at the Arizona Department of Insurance means absolutely nothing as well. Fast forward a side mount garage door opener with smartphone features was replaced with a cheap hang from the center of the garage ceiling mount garage door opener was the replacement I had and $800 opener the gave me an $89.00 opener... They replaced out a $500 high neck flex hose laundry room faucet with a 1970's design,$19.00 or less that you can find at Walmart faucet....... On the current day, the hot water heater that failed is one that the warranty company installed 6.5 years ago. The only thing they did right in 2013 was to replace our 80-gallon hot water heater with an 80-gallon water heater. It has already failed because they have a habit of installing replacement parts with substandard cheaply built parts. What has pushed my final button is that now they want to replace our 80 gallons with a fifty-gallon hot water heater. Let me ask you the same question I asked them. How is a fifty-gallon water heater going to service a 4 bedroom 4 bathrooms 4000 square foot home with 6 people showering? ANSWER, it won't. so they are pushing me to take cash in lieu of. That is not going to happen. Here is why... I have pulled the contract out and read it under coverage overview Item 4). starting with line 4 states that they have to replace our items with similar features, capacity, and efficiencies. The contract is very clear... black and white... Yet they are continuing to attempt to scam my wife and I... Looking back; the fridge, the ceiling fans, the garage door opener, and the faucet did not match features, capacities nor efficiencies. and yet they continue to breach their contracts over and over. I have had enough of their games. What am I going to do about it? I am getting three real repair quotes from real contractors. I am filing a complaint with both the Arizona Attorney General Office and the Arizona Department of Insurance. I am going to Arizona News 3 on your side to tell my story, if they will help I'll stay with them, if not I will go to every news source that will hear our story. As you can see I am not holding back and have only shared true actual facts. Since we entered our contract in 2011 they have collected over $6500 in premiums and they have in return replace a few components with cheaply built trash garbage substandard replacements. My advice to anyone considering buying one of American home shield warranties is stop, don't do it, Also look online they own like 2-3 other warranty companies for home warranties and they are run the same way. What should you do? Start a home repair savings account and deposit 60-70 dollars every month into it and when things go out, shop for the best deal for like replacements and pull money from that account as things break. You will come out way ahead. Have they pissed me off? YEP ... will I ever stop telling my story? NOPE, will I be going viral with this? Yep in many ways... even after I'm gone. Folks the warranty cost between six and $800 a year and there’s $100 charge every time somebody comes out you’re better off just taking $1000 and put it in the stock market or invest it. Even just put in savings account. and take that out when you need something repaired
Choice home warranty is terrible. After being denied a claim and told to get a second opinion which i did CHW still would not reverse their opinion when it did not agree with their tech.

I bought the insurance of choice home warranty. I have a problem with the air conditioner not cooling. And I contacted choice home warranty to fix it. And they contacted SA Heating and air conditioning to make an appointment. But CHW technican arrived late. And they looked for less than 5 minutes and said that the refrigerant coil was broken and couldn't be fixed and had to be replaced systems new . And take me $75 deductible. Then they reported it choice home warranty. In the end they didn't want to fix it
My water heater tank ruptured. The tank needed to be replaced. We called CHW and filed a claim. This happened on a Thursday the guy that accepted the job couldn't come till Monday. I work ina factory and it's hot I sweat a lot. I told them we couldn't wait to shower for 4 days. I used the reimbursement program. Calledy plumber who came out the next day. Did the diagnostic and sent it to them like they asked. Within 10 minutes my claim was denied. They don't cover the tank on your water heater. They only want to cover the cheap stuff. CHW sucks and I'm cancelling my membership. When I called to tell how unhappy I was with their service I was hung up on three different times. Don't recommend CHW they take your money and then don't want to pay to cover anything. This company is trash and they should be shutdown. I give them a zero on a scale from 0-10. Don't waste your money.
Despite many calls, they would not send a technician to fix our washing machine. Typical tactics....1. We will call you back. 2. Schedule an appointment -no show. 3. If you complain if you actually reach a person, they suddenly claim they can't hear you.
As a costumer for a year with choice home warranty I can verify they are a dishonest company. Just trying save as many people from hard ache and frustration
I'm trying to cancel my home choice warranty. I'm being told I can't cancel, until 14 days before the new policy auto renews. Has anyone had this problem cancelling with home choice warranty? What can I do?
I couldn't cancel so I entered a dispute with my credit card company. You can take them to court. They probably won't show and you can maybe get back your money.
$75 service fee paid to service person to diagnose problem with garage door opener, just to be informed that problem (garage door does not work with opener). Warranty company states problem is due to normal wear and tear and is not covered by the warranty. HOWEVER, CHOICE ULTIMATE Plan which we bought INCLUDES Garage door opener, hinges, springs, remote transmitters, key pads. The warranty company said that it doesn’t cover “maintenance”. How is THIS problem a maintenance issue?! Ridiculous. Very disappointed with this company. Would not have chosen CHOICE HOME WARRANTY (the Choice Ultimate plan was >$859) if knew how they deal.
We are in 120 degree heat, and we can't get them to fix the a.c.. They lied and said that a.c. pros where coming out on 08\15/2023 from 3 to 8 pm. We waited all day. Noone called are showed up. All a.c. pro they said that choice never contact them about fixing our a.c.. I have called them back 3 times. Waiting on a call back from them. Terrible company. Not cancelling my contract until I get an Attorney
Choice is a nice warranty company as long as you file no claims. I have been with choice for the past 2 years. I had 3 easy claims on my range to replace burners and oven heating element. Lately I had a leaking on my kitchen sink food disposal. They came and replaced it. Following that repair I started having a leaking on the sink drain piping. They came, charged me another $85 only to tell me that they would cover the repair. I did it myself. The parts cost $72 to replace the entire drainage system and one hour labor considering that I am not a plumber. I told them that I was going to terminate the contract. They didn´t care. I guess I was considered a customer that files too many claims. I´m through with Choice and I don´t even know if it worth having a home warranty. They will give you a terrible time if you have a big claim because they just want the copay to pay for the repairs. I will search around to see if there is any decent home warranty company out there.
This is a company that makes a practice of covering minor damages, but when it comes to major damages they simply do not cover it. The scheme is not to cover and bore the customer, knowing that for a repair of 2000 to 3000 dollars no one will sue you. The lawyer will cost you more. In your contract they tell you that you cannot sue either alone or in a group and that they only accept arbitration. You will still need a lawyer, which would be more expensive. This abusive bad practice is allowed by the US authorities who do not put a stop to this type of abusive companies.
I guess my case is still pending. No agency have been able to assist me. When my co tract is up. I will never buy another contract from Choice Home Warranty. They are total fraud. Everybody that I know who have/had them got ripped off.
This company is the worst! Our water heater was old and flooded our home and they could not find a tech so we had to find someone to come out and the unit or parts are not made or available anymore and the system needs replaced. Choice Home warranty CHW denied our claim for replacement because we turned the water off and gas to prevent further damage to our home.

I had an AC issue and they slow walked getting a technician. I had to get my own. The system in question needs replacement. According to their contract they basically will not replace or modify a system making their service useless. However, when I talked with the sales department they assured me if this ever happened they would replace the system. Make sure you read the contract details if you ever sign up because they basically pay for very little or nothing at all.
same here heater went out they cant replace parts needs new one and they want me to pay 1055 for new one... already paid the 65 like contract says should be on them from here ... nope.... , dishwasher went out i paid 65 to say cant fix they sent me 180 check .... dishwashers start at 500-600 plus had to pay to installl..... so here it is winter with autisitc 2 year old with no heat
I cancelled my contract with Choice Home a few years ago! I was very displeased. As long as the repairs/replacements were minor, Choice Home would take care of the problems. When the repairs/replacements were substantial, Choice Home would find some way to deny the claim. My brother experienced the same thing. My estranged wife has just experienced it also! I instructed her to cancel also. Will contact another Home Warranty Company!!

I have been without AC in my home for almost a month now because this company keeps declining repairs and when you call them they give you the run around and tell you they will have someone else call you 4 days later due to there busy schedule which never happens. The technican that looked at my unit said the expansion valve is bad which lead to my coil freezing up causing a restriction in the duct work. No where did the techican say it was a restriction in expansion valve. Choice home said they declined due to dirt in the ac lone that restricted the expansion valve and that's not normal wear so not covered. Then they sent that to the landlord which is out of the country after I told them she's out of the country and they need to contact me. My landlord has made it clear to them that I am authorized on this account. Still trying to get them to get my unit repaired within the policy and they refuse and delay. Oh and I have told them I have an 82 year old in the house that this needs repaired asap.
Signed up with choice home warranty july 2023, filed a claim October 2023, paid in full for a year. Needed air conditioner fixed, claim was denied, will never renew with them, they are a RIP off. I want my money I paid.
Yep they say they are working very hard to find you repair person could take 24 to 48 hours,but in the meantime you can get one on your own and they will reimburse you 🤥,I canceled my policy today,they say the same thing everytime I make a claim.But you can call a repair company yourself and get a call the same or next day,they deal with these companies everyday but it takes them a week or more for them to find you one😏
Worst warranty ever! I'm about to cancel after three months. It's taking forever just to get a live person on the phone. The best way to go is find a warranty company local to your state or town.

Do NOT do business with this company! We had a water leak in our kitchen island and they dispatched an authorized plumber to make the repairs. The plumber failed to get approval from Home Choice Warranty to open the island wall to facilitate the repairs and therefore we are left with a big hole cut into our island wall. We called Choice Home Warranty and they said this would have to be a separate claim and sent another repair company out for the wall repair. We were required to pay the service fee to the dry wall repair company only to have Choice Home Warrant refuse the claim since the original repair by the plumber did not get prior approval form them to cut an access hole. This company couldn't care less about their clients... very poor customer service to say the least!!
I'll start off by saying this use to be decent company. Had them since about 2014 with a handfull of claims made that were handled well. Apparently, they were sold to a group that also runs Home Choice a little over a year ago. DO NOT USE EITHER ONE OF THESE COMPANIES. THEY ARE A RIP OFF. I had a built in double wall oven that took 2 companies and over a month to figure out it was "not repairable-parts unavailable". I understand that with the way thing are now. I said OK, replace it. Their response was "Oh, we don't do that anymore, but we will send a Lowes Gift card for the replacement value "for my convenience". Well, that's not very convenient. I don't like it, but I guess I can deal with it. (This way they get out of expense of paying a tech to install it.) Then they said the amount of the gift card would be $667.00. because that's how much they pay their vendors to replace a unit like what I have. (These units cannot be purchased for less than $2500.00 and that doesn't include installation.) So i requested the name of one of these vendors they use that can replace my oven so cheaply. The lady's (Lydia?) indignant response was "I already told you we don't replace appliances anymore". So their settlement amounts are based on an imaginary vendors quote. Wow. Just. Wow. I told her this was an unacceptable amount to which she responded that was their final (and only) offer. I still have not received any money (or gift cards for that matter), but they sure didn't miss charging my credit card for the monthly payment. This company is the definition of a scam that uses deceptive trade practices.
They came up excuses why they wont replace. Cost me $6000 out of my own pocket and im not going to talk about the water heater.$2500. There went my peace of mind. And they send lousy contractors. From now on the money I send to them, I will put in an account and save it.
I would not recommend this company to anyone... borderline unethical in how they handle the claims. Their main goal is to get the service fees and then deny the claim. Recently I filed a claim stating when my shower door in bathroom is not closing and they send me a plumber who collects the money at the door and walks to the bathroom and tells me he does not work on the shower doors. Then the choice home warranty calls me and says they don't cover shower doors.... I'm wondering why they send a WRONG technician only to collect the money and deny the claim. So its either fraud or unethical choose your poision.
It is difficult to file a claim because Choice uses foreigners to handle claims. There is a language barrier which makes it difficult to understand their language which seems to be broken speech. Why are they using persons with limited English backgrounds? I tried to place a first time claim and the person that I spoke with did not understand anything that I was saying. I became frustrated and told them to just drop the claim. I am considering dropping this home warranty company because I am very unhappy about the placing of claims. This company is very bad in customer service. Don’t honor the contract. When the cancel request was initiated they keep charging my credit card. A total rip-off. Pls pls keep away from this company. They are not good.
Got a warranty with a real estate purchase. Dish washer was old, it died, repairmen recommended replace, choice agreed, Offered replacement. They base replacement value on their wholesale pricing, then low ball offer you, then if you haggle they come up some, then take 30days to pay you in the form of a Lowe's gift card that Lowe`s will not accept for paying your Lowe`s card! Like say you bought a dishwasher on your card~!
If they sent someone to your house, THEY HONORED THEIR SIDE OF THE CONTRACT. It's up to the plumber after that. I have American Home Shield and the problem with them is their system by default sends the worst plumber to my house. I always have to call and ask a rep not to send that plumber. Other than that, they bought me a brand new water heater, fixed a few leaks and unclogged some drains on the outside of the house. Choice warranty is supposed to be the highest rated warranty company in the U.S.
Ive had the exact same experience as you. They fix a lot of things. But some how they always seem to send the worst plummer to your house. He tried to charge me, way more then what the warranty would cover. wrote a bad review for the Plumming company they sent for trying to rip me off.

CHOICE WILL NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE THE UNIT. Please refer to the terms and conditions section A number 2; “All systems must become inoperative due to normal wear and tear.” In regards to the customer’s concerns with how our technician diagnosed their unit: Please refer to the terms and conditions section B number 6; “We have the sole right to select the Service Provider.” Please refer to the terms and conditions section E number 12; “You agree that We are not liable for the negligence or other conduct of the Service Provider, nor are We an insurer of Service Provider’s performance. What a scam. They decided proper working order on the effective date of this home warranty contract.if it happens to break and they don’t want to pay for it , it’s not covered. Their systems are rigged and their staff are rude. Don’t waste your time and money on them.
I am having the most horrible experience with Choice Home Warranty. They didn't respect their contract for the sceptic tank service I bought for them. Then they renewed my contract automatically!!! When I told 1,000 to their phone calls that I DIDN T want to renew!!
Choice Home Warrenty is a waste of money. They had me on hold on the phone for 4 hours with a technician at my home, which later cost me over 700.00 for what my technician claimed could have cost 140.00 max! I wrote numerous letters and got the same answer. Sorry, this happened to you. Now…..they are continually calling me to extend my warranty????? Are you serious?????? The also have no technicians in the area….which should be a red flag to everyone!!!!!
It is a brutal way to try and make money. I tried one of these "fantastic" companies for a short period in an attempt to build client base..... I was approved for the work at the beginning only for them not to pay me at the end. Used them for a short time and lost over $500. Cut them off like a diseased limb. These companies can care less about their client base, can you see how much they would and do care about the contractor. If a home buyer purchases a home with a warranty plan, I would highly recommend dropping it when it times out.
They dropped me after saying my average cost were too high which they never told me there's a limit I should stay under. Now they are literally trying to charge me $750 for a clogged drain problem the homeowner has had before I replaced his furnace and coil and they said it was a improper install when I didn't run new drain line
I never signed away rights when we subscribed to Choice because it was subscribed over the phone. They couldn’t go on about contracts or fairytale arbitration nonsense.
There holding my pay checks due to customers complaining. Overwhelming with all the work they need done for there customers there throwing at me I'm the only vendor for my town n surrounding areas. So y sometimes I get behind and the customers get upset. But I do the work and pay out of pocket for the material needed. And just for a complate they will not pay me
Fraudulent company. Their scam is to send a repair person out to your home knowing the service will not be covered. You get charged $75 AND NOTHING GETS DONE.
They wouldnt cover my dishwasher because it was too new beware this was in alabama. They took a month getting out and never came through! It was excuse after excuse when it turned out it was a very expensive repair and needed to be replaced or fixed they backed out and the repair man refused to answer my calls I didnt know until a week later. They offered us 100$ only if we kept them for another year. I told them no point in keeping them if they wouldnt even fix my dishwasher. First they claimed it was pre existing which it wasnt I've had lots of work done on it in the last year it has been a problematic machine so has our dryer and our refrigerator. The whole reason I got this was because we have already had to purchase a different dryer and refrigerator and now this! We have just purchase a new dishwasher being delivered monday. I will be looking into other home warranties because I want piece of mind. No better relief of purchasing a dishwasher that I havent had for a month! This company picks and chooses there fixes.
American Home Shield is a good home warranty company they paid to fix both garage door openers, replace the panel on my oven, and even pay $1,600 for a new front load washer because my front load washer was broken, my bad didn't read over it.
