Public Storage customers are unhappy with unexplained price increases for their storage units. In the last four years, George Wagner's monthly rate has increased four times.
"It started off at $99 and $14 insurance monthly,” said George Wagner.
He then started receiving notices via email advising him of price increases. The first notice came 18 months into his lease. His rent went up by $26. Thirteen months later, it increased by another $33, bringing the total to $148. Six months later, he was told his new total would be $202, and a year later, it increased to $245 per month.

Public Storage is again raising our rent started at $165.00 now a year later $273.00 in Denver CO - this must stop - price gauging!!!
@TheOpinionSports

That’s the exact rate they are trying to raise mine too. $213 to $272. Getting stuff out before the $272 kicks in. Public storage will keep raising prices with no end in sight. Soon people will be paying over $500 a month for storage

PUBLIC STORAGE IS THE WORST STORAGE COMPANY. if you are late two weeks they put your stuff in auctions, and sell it the beginning of the mew month. PUBLIC STORAGE GET IN YOU with $1 plus fees then add several fees to it, then not even 5 month they raised the fees 20 dollars, they are CROOKS.

Self storage is not usually a long term rental! If a person chooses to make it be long term then this is what will happen. Rent goes up! You expect it in an apartment- why is it so hard to fathom when it comes to self storage?
@antwonejefferson9138
@antwonejefferson9138 Год назад
Absolutely period why don’t they get that
@12dross
@12dross Год назад
Because an apartment complex gives you a 60 day written notice of a rate increase and the increase is usually small. Storage units go up with with out notice and can double in price in as little as 12 months.

"If a person chooses to make it be long term then this is what will happen". Not only does that not logically follow from your premise, it has also not been my own experience over the years. Yes, rents will, of course, increase from time to time. However, when I rented a conditioned space for several years, the rent increases were modest and understandable. But this rate of increase is different and, on the face of it, doesn't seem justified even taking into account the relatively recent high inflation rate. There's something else going on here I suspect.

Because rent on my apartment doesn't go up every 3-4 months to over 70% in one year.

Most people do not NEED storage. If you have so much stuff, you can not fit it inside your home then YOU'RE the problem. People need to be smarter. Or at least get out once you learn their policy
@OlBa-zv4bk

Correct. It is unusual situation like the passing of my father and needing a storage solution while we worked everything out. We did get out after I caught wind of their policy and reading all the reviews on BBB (1.24 out of 5). People just need to know what they are in for when dealing with company. The hoarders of whom you speak probably figured this out already!

It is greedy but also discriminatory. Tip: when you get the rent increases check to see what the (not new customer discounted) price of the same size and attributes (in/outside etc) is at the same facility. If their stated price (not the introductory price nor the web discounted price) but the regular rate is much less than your raised price, then either move with in the same facility to another and cheaper same size unit, or find a competitor nearby with same kind of unit (I found competitors charging half the PS price) or tell the manager and district manager you need them to adjust your price back to their quoted price for other customers. This is a PS scam that counts on lazy customers who put up with their greed. The greed is a corporate policy intended to abuse their customers. PS does not respect its customers and does not deserve our business.

This is nothing!!! I got 2 units at life storage Benbrook Texas a few months ago. 1st month $190 2nd month $190 30 units got broken into including one of mine. After the 2nd payment. 3rd month $350 4th month $350 And I just got a letter today that in 30 days its going to be $510. I'm fed up. I'm getting ready to make some noise.

@@lady5563 That is absolute horsesh*t. There is no basis for your claim and it doesn't serve the storage facility to have constant turnover. It is purely exploitation of people who need space to store (for whatever reason and however long!!!!!) It is very costly to move requiring labor and a truck and time and all storage units play the same game of rip off the customer. PS... Their "overhead" is miniscule and hardly affected by inflation although they use it to squeeze their renters dry. It is exploitation, pure and simple.

Public Storage SUCKS. $80-206 in ~2-3 years and recently tried to up it again to 270. All they'll say is move your stuff to another unit to get an intro price, won't actually give you an intro price. Shitty business model to treat long term customers with no thankfulness whatsoever. Just another examples of corporate greed - welcome to America, home of the free to price gouge, land of the brave to inflate.

i think it's important and it's time that we put a face to the name. we all hate these storage companies for their gouging, yet the executives can walk by you in the grocery store and you would have no clue. I no longer have an issue with prime storage employees, i have an issue with Prime Storage's owner Robert J. Moser.

Everything I had in Public Storage was stolen, things since high school, 20 years in the Air Force, 20 years of marriage. I had the unit for 10 years, they raised my rent every February then again in October. They told me about the raise on the day before it was due. The raise was to $526 a month. I contacted a lawyer who said Public Storage is a non regulatory business, which means they can do anything they want. They dont answer to anyone. There is no insurance carrier, there is no cameras watching, except employees cars at the office, and there is no rodent control. This is a business bordering on criminal practice.

During the pandemic, I had to move and got storage to at least give myself some space to do the move. 10'x10' in CA. That was two years ago at about 270, and now... approaching 500... I was expecting something reasonable and increases drop over time, maybe a cap... is there no end?

It happened to me last year at one of the public storage locations on Baltimore National Pike. My price hike notification was sent to me not even six months of having my items placed in my storage unit. **I will admit the property manager was very respectful professional and assist me with keeping my original price for my unit for 3 months I considerate it being called an waiver. After the 3 months past my storage fee went from $153 to $203 I only paid the amount of $203 fee for 2 months afterwards To be honest I was grateful that I had the opportunity to remove all my personal items out of the storage unit at the end of 2022
