This pair of Allen Edmonds loafers had been sitting in an attic. They were dusty and in need of some care. We decided to have some fun and give this pair of Allen Edmonds a different look. Time for another restoration!

You did a great job on those. They may have been dusty, but that shoe was made back when Allen Edmonds made nothing but quality shoes. No cutting corners back then. Marble effect was a really cool idea and executed perfectly!

Looks very nice. The original soles had a lot of wear left in them but sometimes it's nice to start out with a brand new sole. Plus I think the mottled look on the sole was pretty cool. Someone has a dang fine pair of loafers there.

I like that effect on the soles. Adds a dimension to the shoes and the impression of 'wear' despite the heel block being new. Don't think I would be too keen wearing such a pair of shoes outdoors too often as that likely would increase the rate at which that beautiful sole gets to the stage where the original effect is un recognisable. I likes it! The only thing I'd add is to slather the interior leather with some Bick4 to keep it supple too. I love my AEs!

QUESTION--I know that they will scuff up when you wear them, but can you touch them up after each wearing to keep them pristine and beautiful? The marble-effect soles look amazing. Love the Lulu taps too.

I like the intended effect. I didn't particularly care for the color choice. I think a tan / gold and navy blue or black marbling would have been ritzy. I really like your use of colored thread!

You were going to use flat cork until hot cork arrived. Which is better? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

@@garysmith9359I’m not a cobbler but the sheet cork is faster. You don’t have to wait for it to dry like the hot cork since there is not adhesive in it. You’d still have to use glue on the insole so there is still a little drying time.

The sole pattern was so crazy it's brilliant! Also I was thinking military camouflage soles. Have you thought of planting a couple of cork oak trees for the future? It would take a few decades before they are ready, but then, loads of free cork. The only thing that would prevent it is if you have extreme winters there, and the trees surviving? Edit: or see if you can buy or lease trees growing in situ somewhere so you can get cork straight away. But the cost might not be worth it?
