I wanted to try my hand at engraving a custom zippo. After an hour or two of drawing various skulls and geometric designs, I decided to just jump in and give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the results!

Just found your videos and these are awesome. If you dont mind me asking, what are some of the tools required to get into this? I see the hand engraving tools, but ive seen various clamps, putties, finishes etc that ive never seen before.

for this video I hooked the dslr up to the 3rd mount. I also sometimes hook my phone up to a normal eyepiece. The phone/eyepiece might give me better video

What laser engraver did you use? I’m researching cnc and laser, for the transfer of my designs. I basically just want the line work for my coins, thinking laser would be best.

that's all hand engraved. I did a paper transfer for the pattern. However i do have lasers and can help you figure out what you need. there are some really cheap fiber lasers coming out now that would be perfect for stuff like outlines.

@@JRyderEngraving no stress. What you want is a fiber laser or diode laser in the 1064nm range. you're in luck, they're dropping in price like CRAZY. check out the Mr. Carve M1. It's about $1k and would work perfectly for this.

I've tried engraving on a small medium. I used 120°. but in the leaves it always goes out of line that I draw. how many degrees did you use in the video? for small media such as watches and zippo kotek how many degrees do you recommend especially for cutting back bone??

it just takes tons of practice. I still struggle to get good clean lines on tiny curves. Try not going so deep and slowing way down.
