THANK YOU! I see you posted this quite a while ago ... and it's still needed and useful! It's frustrating that a tool so powerful is so well hidden -- and that if you don't know the exact vocabulary words, you can't find it. Bless you for "shining the spot light" on it, so to speak. Really appreciate the help!

For anybody looking to do this in newer versions: Instead of having to add the button to the Quick Acess Toolbar, the button is actually available by default under the "Shape Format" tab that appears when you select these :)

Thanks, however, with the newer versions, I have to use "subtract shapes" tool, which is no longer under combine shapes.
