I am in the process of making my own Hanten and have come across the same issues, especially the odd pinching in the armpit. It gives me some comfort to see someone else struggle and still think of solutions and future projects.
So I’ve just finished my second and much happier with the results. I left the sleeve head open at the bottom and I have eliminated the armpit pinch… glad the video gave you some comfort… always lots to learn, especially from a failure… hope to have the new hanten film finished for next week but it’ll probably be the week after.
If your still pondering this problem my new Hanten film went up today that covers the pinching fix: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bz3W0mFSmqY.html
Thanks for watching the film, I think I'm a long way from fully understanding what it means to make a hanten jacket but I'm defiantly going to give it another go.
Just found you out cause of the haori jacket! This is literally something i ever wanted to make, brilliant work! THANK YOU SO MUCH! keep posting more such content, you are damn amazing ✨
I liked the video. I think I might try it on an old shirt. About the flair in the back...if you change the shoulder-seam a bit, so it follows the shoulder-line (goes a bit down towards the sleeve), I think it might help a bit. Thanks for the video.
That’s for the support, I’ve got a stack of denim waiting to go for another attempt on this, going to try it with out the lining and less traditional sleeves… hoping that getting the collar right will make a massive improvement on the fit… stay tuned
I know your frustration. Trying a new pattern for the first time with the actual fabric can be risky. I finally learned that the best thing for me to do was first make the garment using cheap muslin ($2-3 per yard). When I finally get the results I want, then I cut the intended final fabric, and keep the final muslin as a template. Not as much fun as immediately cutting the final fabric on the first try, but I feel better about the experience in the end. You’ll come back to it one day, and make it what you want.
I’m starting a project on pattern blocks and have a stack of old bed sheets that I will be testing and fitting my pattern with until I get something that works… it’s exciting and also daunting
thanks for the encouragement 😻 I'm currently ripping jeans working on a V2 to figure some stuff out before I take this one apart... watch out for the next video coming in a couple of weeks.
