Flame Beats The main difference is consent. The Amish are told that it’s the modern day and can choose to leave the Amish community at any time. The whole point of Rumpsringa is to give their youth a taste of the outside world and the ability to make an informed decision about whether or not to stay Amish as adults. I mean, it was basically just a skit for insiders. The writers/cast members are all professional comedians and have all probably spent hundreds of hours at these open mics. It's still funny to an outsider audience, but these are probably pretty well known tropes on the comedy club/open mic scene.
